There are many speech therapy exercises or activities kids which help to improve their communication such as Flashcards, Mirror Exercises, Frog Hop, Guess Who? And many more. If the problem is not pronunciation but rather that your child isn’t talking or is talking very little, you should act a little more quickly.
667016 tn?1238891904 Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this community & hurt my back Oct '06. I lifted a heavy bucket out of the sink & experienced excruciating pain in my lower back R hand side. Later that night I temporarily lost feeling in both legs, they were like dead weights - I had to crawl to bed. Next morning I was still in agonising pain & my spine was severly bent sideways - to the point where I looked deformed & felt like I was going to topple over.
Avatar m tn A number of techniques are available for achieving fluency which are prolonged speech techniques, airflow therapies, rhythmic speech, biofeedback methods, vocal control, masking, anxiety reduction, attitudinal therapy and trial therapy. Speech therapy involves learning new speech techniques (such as speaking syllable-by-syllable) and modifying the present ways of speaking (such as reducing the rate of speech).
Avatar m tn I went to my speech therapy this morning. She had me saying ahhhhhh, ooooh, eeeeh and reading from what looked like a grade second reader. The she made a mistake. She said, "Tell me a little about yourself." Now, being a complete windbag I went into a dissertation that rocked her back on her heels. She kept asking me to take a deep breath as i talked.
193609 tn?1292180293 She said that they do educational speech therapy and that Ashtyn needs Clinical speech therapy. Is there anything that would be as helpful as speech therapy since my insurance wont cover it and the ISD doesn't do the speech therapy that he needs? Ashtyn is very behind in almost all communication skills. I don't know what else to do for him, and no one can help him!
Avatar n tn We expect developmental delays across various skills, including speech. She will have to start speech therapy at appropriate age. An integrated approach will be the best thing for her. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Ask your therapists for therapies that do not require physical movement like mental imagery, mirror-box therapy, thermal therapy, music therapy, passive movement. If they do not know of these they are way behind in keeping up with research. Good luck.

Avatar n tn I had ataxia from a stroke in the cerebellum and haave gone to physical therapy for it. First is cocentration on balance. One the exercises that can be done for this is standing on a stair, with one's toes and balls of feet on the stair and the heel hanging off and downward. Hold that position for 3-5 minutes to strengthen the tendon at the back of the leg. One of the most important things is to build-up muscles in the legs as well as one's core ( muscles in stomach and back).
1041487 tn?1256327719 My mom had an ischemic stroke this past August that damaged her middle cerebral artery. She is 70 and this is her second stroke in 19 years. The first stroke damaged the right side of her brain, but she recovered well enough to go back to work and live a productive life. This second stroke was more damaging. She is alert, and only stares to the left. I'm not sure if her vision is clear. Her right arm and leg are limp, and she doesn't move them.

Avatar n tn therefore, I had to have a PEG installed. I was sent to a speech therapist and was doing therapy with a metal longstem mirror that dentists use. She put the mirror part off the instrument in ice water and then rubbed it back and forth over the left bridge part of my throat trying to stimulate and a reminder to start the swallowing mechanism again. I was able to do this at home too. Eventually after 5 months, I found I could swallow my saliva!!! Now I eat almost anything.

Avatar m tn Hi, I'm in my first year of teaching and am suffering from really swollen vocal chords. I've seen an ENT specialist and have been given exercises to do but they don't seem to be helping. I've been following all of the usual advice - drinking plenty of water, avoiding caffeine / alcohol, resting my voice when I can, steam inhalation, avoiding acid reflux but it only seems to be getting worse. This has been the case for around a year now.
Avatar m tn Hi d- My father had a stroke in April. One of the most helpful things we did for him was acupuncture. In China apparently when you have a stroke you go to a acupuncture hospital. Other things helped, including physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Avatar f tn s on a sliding fee schedule of payment and therefore can even be totally free based on income. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy will all happen if needed either by appointment or even in your home. yes, a speech therapist may travel to your home to help you. You'll be assigned a case manager to track progress of your child. I highly recommend you get involved in this. Once the child turns three, the public school system takes over.
Avatar f tn I'd get her evaluated. Sometimes delayed speech suddenly just "clicks," but starting early is a good idea if you do need to get her into speech therapy or other assistance. My nephew went through this and did go in with a speech specialist weekly for a while, and it really helped.
Avatar m tn If you experience neck or shoulder stiffness, this can contribute to migraines. I learned physical therapy exercises that I do on myself almost every day to help with my migraines. Although in my case, it also takes other treatments to control my previous 24/7 severe migraines.

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with vocal nodules in March of 2004. After speech therapy and vocal training, I was on the road to recovery, but in the last year I have been bothered with tightness in the back of my head, neck and throat. I am a singer and my life has be dramatically altered. I recently had a BRAVO test done to rule our acid reflux. There was very little acid found.
Avatar n tn My brain thought my hand was something like an 1/8th of an inch off from where it was, so there were all sorts of little exercises. I also had to do vestibular exercises, all of which you can find online. But getting a 4 yr old to do that, is a whole different story. I'm so sorry and I will pray deeply for your family.
Avatar f tn Hi my sister-n-law had triplets and then another set of twins. All premie's and all with delayed speech. By age 2 they all had a speech therapist work with them because of weak mouth/tongue. Within a short period of time they all had advanced in their language skills. The therapist said with some mouth exercises they have really caught up. They are now 6 and 3 yrs old.
