Common Questions and Answers about Speech therapist degree online

speech

Avatar f tn All of last week, she was being assessed and doing various evaluations by the physiotherapist, occupational therapist, the speech therapist and a neuropsychology. This week, there are a few more assessments to do and then they will begin with the therapy required. She has not shown any improvements in her movement. We are past 4 weeks and from what I have been reading online, this means that no neurological recovery has taken place. Does that mean that it won't happen?
Avatar f tn my hubby has been finishing hisbusiness degree online through nnu. the program is geared towards working adults.
Avatar m tn Hi there. The degree of speech impairment that your brother will have could vary from dysarthria or slow, slurred speech due to damage to areas that control muscles of speech mechanism, apraxia of speech where there is difficulty in saying words correctly in a consistent manner. This deficit is evaluated immediately after the injury by a neurologist.
584252 tn?1218223686 Hi i took my daughter Melissa to see a speech and language therapist today and she said from the little test she did her speech is within normal parameters, but from what i have been saying she did say she wanted to test her at school to check her understanding. She did notice that Melissa went into her own world and that when i spoke to her i had to repeat myself quite a few times.
Avatar f tn That being said, how wonderful that she will have 4 languages. I would check in with an expert - perhaps a pediatrician or speech therapist? Others will speak up I'm sure with more information, sorry all I can offer is that I know it is normal for a child to be behind in these types of situations. All the best to you!
Avatar m tn But the more pragmatic areas of speech (organizing thought to say what you want to say ---- expressive and taking in what someone else has said to you-------- receptive) can also be affected by motor planning. An occupational therapist evaluates for sensory integration disorder. But speech and social skills can be affected by this (and it is not autism but a nervous system issue). So, please talk to your physician and I'd start with a speech eval.
620048 tn?1358018235 00. I am not sure what she is going to do but I am sure I need it..What do speech therapists do anyway? With all of that, I still have a terrible headache but still happy...
Avatar f tn if it would ease your mind you can ask your pedi to refer you to a speech therapist to have him evaluated but that would be more to appease hubby because every child develops on their time not anyone else
Avatar m tn Speech disorder will be recovered easily , when they are constant efforts from both patient and Therapist. Normally Breathing exercises and Speech training by therapist will be helpful.
Avatar n tn However, the fact that he is having issues is reason enough to have him properly evaluated by professionals, starting with a good speech therapist. Now is definitely the time to get him into speech therapy and any other therapies that can help him with his various delays in development. It wouldn't hurt for you to look into intervention strategies like ABA or Floortime too, since they help with interacting with socially delayed children whether it is from autism or not.
Avatar m tn This by the way, had to do with my doctor who thought that seeing as I have asthma I should learn how to breathe so I could talk. Unfortunately for the speech therapist, she was caught unawares and might possibly need some kind of therapy herself after having a couple of stints with me.
Avatar f tn One of the schools I teach at has a VA program for people wanting to get their degree, and its mostly online. I have VA students with interest free loans, and some even with full scholarships that cover cost of living as well as tuition. Worth looking into at least.
Avatar n tn Greetings, I always have hated my voice, since I was in middle school. It doesn't seem to me that my voice is nasal, even when I fully pinch my nose shut. However, I have been told by friends (and heard, myself, through recordings) that this is not the case. I did some reading through Google and saw that this may be some sort of ENT disorder, but have also been told that I may just need to see a speech therapist to learn how to speak right.
Avatar n tn He didnt babble much as a baby, and not very much as a toddler, so at 2 years old I took him to a speech therapist...........now he is 4 and a half and the speech therapist just noticed that at the back of his throat his uvula is doubled, and she felt the back the top of the roof of his mouth and told me he has Submoucus Cleft Palate. We since have seen a nose ear and throat specialist and he says that my son doesnt need surgery, and should out grow his nasily sound by puberty.
Avatar n tn She was assessed by early intervention (psychologist, speech therapist, and occupational therapist) and her pediatrician for autism and no one had any concerns. The speech therapist said she should be evaluated by a neuropsychologist. This is a very expensive assessment. Given the fact that she has been evaluated a couple of times do you think this is necessary? I am so frustrated, I have been trying to get her speech help for so long and have jumped through so many hoops.
12584065 tn?1436320514 So im considering taking online classes so I can get some type of degree to where I can work from home. I have endometriosis, and Crohns disease. Soon ill have 3 babies to care for. I was looking into medical billing and coding but idk how easy it will be to get a job working from home right away? I want to be sure that I study something that I will be able to find work at home with. Anyone done this and found work from home?
389393 tn?1207442358 He still cannot make f , v, and he just learned k sounds. He also blends his words. His speech therapist says it will get better as I have observed. I just dont want to be in denial. I know that the only way he can be dx with autism is by a Dr., but I feel that his speech therapist, teachers, and pediatrician would have told me something if they suspected it.
738090 tn?1250622476 I have been sent to a speech therapist after I started having hoarseness. I have emphysema, acid reflux and the signs of essential tremor. The internist, pulmonologist, gastroentrologist and Ent all could not determine the cause. The speech therapist says is is because the muscle around the vocal cord has been retrained by using the PLB method and I have to relearn to work the breathing and speech in concert.
408443 tn?1202069828 Hang in there, mom. It will get better. But you have to get your daughter therapy. Don't let the doctors give you the run around. Sounds like your daughter needs more than speech therapy. If she's got sensory issues (not liking to be touched and not liking tooth brushing, etc), she needs an occupational therapist to address those sensory issues and introduce sensory integration therapy. Dont' wait until she's 3.
500419 tn?1220124743 So you should find out from head start how much time does he really get. My child is 11 and is still in speech and works online, but is so much better. But If I were you I wouldn't put him in school yet. I would take him for speech on his own, talk to him a lot and read to him everyday and go to the park.

Avatar f tn My son has sensory integration disorder and the two things that were noticed first were his speech and tripping. He was three. He was evaluated by an occupational therapist and has been doing OT since being diagnosed with sensory. He is now 6 and doing really well. Just thought I'd throw sensory into the mix for you to check out and see what you think.
1493284 tn?1294875712 m swallowing problems according to the speech therapist is neurological in nature so the last neuro just shrugged it off but my new neuro is taking it seriously and we are trying to finally come to a diagnosis we are waiting for new mri in a few more months but she thinks its spms but least it will finally take me out of limboland for 6 years
13864745 tn?1443685231 t had a break and I have two babies going on my third. I do mostly online, I have even done both online and in person. I am going for mt bachelors, you'll be okay its not that hard.
Avatar f tn Yes, repeated infections can have an impact on hearing. Your son's development of speech/language is definitiely delayed, and this warants evaluation by a Speech/Language therapist. But an audiological evaluation is crucial, because it is possible that the delay in speech is secondary to hearing loss.
Avatar m tn Been a long time reader but now a first time poster. Long story short...I'm a mid 40's guy with 2 small children and great wife. I had many surgeries mostly back & knees over the last 25 years mostly due to being a collegiate & semi-pro athlete. Over the last 4 yrs I have been taking hydrocodone 10/325 (4-6 a day) & I'm done being a slave to these things. It has slowly degraded my life over them 4 yrs making me less the dad than I should be.
