We have all heard the story, stupid American on vacation to Thailand without the wife
winds up shagging a local prostitute of unknown HIV status. 5 weeks later rash, sores in mouth, exhaustion etc. etc. I had a PCR test at 7 weeks, came back negative. Had antibody (OraQuick) tests at 6, 9, and 13 weeks. All negative. Now I read that these tests typically look for subtype B, the variant most often found here in the USA. What about subtype E, the most prevelant in Thailand.
