solumedrol

398059 tn?1447945633 The leading traumatic cause of spinal cord injuries is automobile accidents, causing 44 percent of all injuries. Other causes of spinal cord injuries, in descending order of frequency, include violence (e.g., gunshot wounds), falls, and sports. While sports only account for 8 percent of all spinal cord injuries, 60 percent of those sports-related injuries are a result of diving accidents.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry you are dealing with a flare. I don't really have an answer since I'm in kinda the same position myself...MS but no spinal injury. Just had a flare where my left leg is just kinda useless...hard to explain. I did solumedrol, but havent really seen any improvement and have been wondering when to call the neuro back.
Avatar m tn This drug also known as Lioresal (Baclofen)is used to treat spasticity in multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries. It works by reducing the transmission of impulses from the spinal cord to skeletal muscle, thus reducing the frequency and amplitude of muscle spasms in patients with spinal cord lesions.
1609609 tn?1298135940 These are longitudinal cavities in the spinal cord, mostly in the cervical region, which may extend to multiple spinal levels. the cavities are lined by dense , gliogenous tissue and may be associated with spinal cord neoplasms, traumatic injuries, vascular malformations. Syringomyelia is marked by pain and paresthesia , muscular atrophy of hands, analgesia with anesthesia to temperature changes in hands, arms etc. consult a neurologist for further elaboration and clinical evaluation.
Avatar f tn DREZ myelotomy produces lasting pain relief in most patients of traumatic nerve root avulsion from spinal cord as seen in brachial or lumbar plexus injuries. Hope this information helps. Discuss with your neurologist for more details. Take care.
656631 tn?1224603168 It sounds like you are asking what type of MS your husband might have based on the number of lesions he has throughout his brain and spinal cord and the number of flare ups he has had in the 9 months since starting Rebif. If that is the question, I cannot help you. The type of MS one has is far more dependent on the behavior of the disease than it is on the number and/or the location of MRI lesions. Certainly 4 flare ups is a lot and means he has had one right after another.
Avatar m tn I was told that they are close to spinal cord replacements or regrowth, and when that is established, optic nerves will be next/ Thanks, Adam
Avatar m tn There are no other injuries. His heart, spinal cord and everything else is fine. In order to reduce swelling in the brain and pressure, doctors removed a portion of the skull. Swelling is reducing. What are his chances of survival and is there any advice?
Avatar m tn In addition, surgical treatment like discectomy, spinal fusion, and spinal laminectomy may be the last resort in most of the non-resolving cases. . I would recommend you to see a neurologist who can evaluate the details of your case and could better determine the insight of your situation.
Avatar f tn The surgery is being done to remove the compression effect the disc herniation is having directly on your spinal cord. If the spinal cord remains compressed you are at risk for permanent neurological changes that can not be reversed. While it is very normal to have fear and anxiety regarding any surgery, the fact that it will involve probing near the spinal cord only magnifies these responses.
Avatar n tn When you lose control of urination, that means either the nerves or spinal cord in the lumbar spine are being pushed on or damaged. Sometimes injuries to the spine many years ago will get worse as a person gets older, due to natural settling of the spine, or perhaps even a new injury, or maybe a disk between one of the vertebral bodies is bulging out.
Avatar m tn I have been on a long term management program for chronic pain due having spinal fusion following spinal fracture of lower and cervical cord injuries. My question is can essential tremor (getting progressively more severe) be a result of narcotic use. I am trying to avoid additional surgeries and my MD does not think that more surgeries will allow me to be pain free, only to get around a little better and avoid a wheelchair life.
Avatar n tn Blood vessels that run up and down the spine nourish the spinal cord. However, only one vessel, the anterior spinal artery, goes to the front of the spinal cord in the area between T4 and T9. Doctors call this section of the spine the critical zone. If this single vessel is damaged, as can happen with pressure from a herniated thoracic disc, the spinal cord has no other way to get blood.
Avatar m tn My MRI results were at c5-6 at left paracentral small protrusion and uncinated spur produces severe left c6 foraminal narrowing and left c6 compression, mild degenerative annular bulging at c6-c7 results in mild left c7 foraminal narrowing c7-t1 demonstrates a small central protrusion which does not impinge the central spinal cord, at t1-t2 a left paracentral protrusion is noted which extends into the left lateral recess.
Avatar f tn Practitioners claim that these methods can treat a wide range of ailments, including ulcers, headaches, burns, chronic pain, nerve disorders, spinal cord injuries, diabetes, gum infections, asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, cerebral palsy, heart disease and cancer" Google "Dr. Weill bioresonance" and read what he has to say about it. It may also have some resemblance to Rife treatments, but I don't know if that's true or not.
Avatar m tn If your spinal cord is being compresses at all from your C-5-6-7 injuries you can become permanently disabled. My Chiropractor would not touch my neck when I was hurting from C5-6 herniation with cord compression from the car. Do you qualify for help from the state. Do you know why your insurance would not pa y?
Avatar f tn There are several symptoms that show signs that there is damage in the spinal cord. In the spinal cord the nerves that deal with the whole body run very close together down the cord. A single lesion can cut across an area that affects a large section of the body. One good sized lesion can essentially "cut off " the body below it as if the spine had been severed. This is the worst case scenario of the lesions of transverse myelitis, however, most lesions are not that large.
Avatar f tn t usually lead to further problems, but if the cause is due to spinal cord lesion, its basically the spinal cord lesions that has a list of commonly connected issues eg bladder-bowel-sexual dysfunction etc though it really depends on where the lesion(s) are specifically located to what issues you might end up with.
Avatar f tn t mention there being any spinal cord lesions, but with cord lesions like cord injuries, a lesion in the spinal cord is likely to disrupt function below the injury, for the spinal cord to have caused paralysis in arms, hands, trunk and legs it would need to involve High-Cervical Nerves (C1 – C4). MS cord lesions are more typically smaller than other types of cord lesions and don't usually traverse the spinal cord and cause parathesia in all peripheral limbs or complete paralysis.
Avatar n tn Sadly, in the worse case scenario, if your kitten has a completely broken back near her head or chest (high up on the spinal cord) there is very little that can be done, unfortunately. She will probably be paralysed and not able to move or use her front or rear legs. She would be urinary and fecal incontinent and may require expression of her bladder so that it will not burst.
Avatar m tn X-rays show monly your skeletal system. An x-ray will not show nerve or spinal cord injuries, ligament or blood vessel damage, etc. Over time, the damage or injury caused by nerve or spinal cord compression, ligament damage or a lack of blood flow (caused bt impingement) ususally becomes permanent or irreversible. At this time you have no idea as to what is going on. The abovementioned are simply worse case scenarios aimed at impressing the importance of finding out your actual diagnosis.
1172359 tn?1310667693 i am as of yet undiagnosed, but a recent MRI revealed inflammation in my spinal cord at the end of january. in response to those findings, i underwent a 3-day infusion of solu-medrol in early february. my neuro did not prescribe a tapering dose of oral prednisone and i *strongly* suggest you ask your doctor to do so. from what i have understood from others, a tapering dose of steroids would have made it a hell of a lot easier on me.
1602878 tn?1304336016 Have had about eight surgeries some inside the cord to untether it and to remove a tumor. I am implanted with a spinal cord stimulator. I was born with a tethered cord. Lots of scar tissue and tissue doesn't heal well when a needle is put in for a myelogram. Could the fractured rib poke and cause a leak? Or possibly the fall pulled at the scar tissue created the leak. Any ideas out there?
