Avatar m tn I do think that in your case they should at least confirm that it is not the spinal cord injury! Hopefully the new MRI will be able to do that!
Avatar n tn It states that at the T7-T8 level demonstrates central disc protrusion effacing the thecal sac and slightly indenting the ventral aspect of the thorasic spinal cord without appreciable focal cord edema at this time. There is no central stenosis or neural foraminal narrowing. I had a 230 lb male fall on me while trying to arrest him. Landed half on a curb, half on the street. This would have caused this injury correct?
398059 tn?1447945633 However, for most, the spinal cord injury is the result of trauma. The leading traumatic cause of spinal cord injuries is automobile accidents, causing 44 percent of all injuries. Other causes of spinal cord injuries, in descending order of frequency, include violence (e.g., gunshot wounds), falls, and sports. While sports only account for 8 percent of all spinal cord injuries, 60 percent of those sports-related injuries are a result of diving accidents.
Avatar m tn Sounds like a cervical spine issue, NOT a spinal cord injury or damage. You should consult your physician about this.
656631 tn?1224603168 The neck lesions are also a hallmark of MS activity - if there is no injury to the spinal cord, that is.
Avatar f tn Manal I am so sorry for what is happening to you're kitty....honey if kitty can't walk and has lost control of bodily functions than I'm afraid a laxative and calcium isn't going to help him any!! He has most surely suffered a spinal cord injury and I don't think emergency surgery would even be successful at this stage??
1240783 tn?1286669028 There are some other reasons for having shocks that run down the spinal cord like that, nowhere near as dangerous as an actual injury to the spinal cord, I'm sorry I cannot recall them, but the neuro will be familiar. If at any point you feel any significant loss of sensation below the site of the injury, go on back to the ER, better safe than sorry despite them sending you away last time.
Avatar m tn A minor injury can cause spinal cord trauma if the spine is weakened (such as from rheumatoid arthritis or osteoporosis) or if the spinal canal protecting the spinal cord has become too narrow (spinal stenosis) due to the normal aging process. Direct injury, such as cuts, can occur to the spinal cord, particularly if the bones or the disks have been damaged.
736529 tn?1233080422 Recent work includes characterization of various degrees of spinal cord injury with a precise sub-millimeter injury to the spinal cord using the vibra-knife, which has been developed in our laboratory
Avatar f tn my mri says moderate size central disk protrusion contacting and indenting the ventral aspect fof the spinal cord inducing mild to moderate spinal can stenosis with ap can measurement 7.
Avatar f tn neuropathic pain caused by damage or dysfunction in the nervous system including the spinal cord. This can be spinal cord injury pain, segmental pain that can be associated with allodynia and hyperalgesia in the painful region. Nerve root entrapment pain and syringomyelia are other groups of neuropathic pain. The other category of pain is musculoskeletal due to secondary overuse and muscle spasms after spinal cord injury and surgery.
Avatar n tn Your MRI findings show significant problems at multiple levels of your cervical spine. Your spinal canal and spinal cord are also being affected and any further trauma or injury (ie falls) could result in permanent damage. I don't know what type of surgeon you were seen by, but I would RUN from him as fast as possible --- he obviously does not know what he is doing!!
Avatar f tn Myelomalacia means softening of the spinal cord usually due to hemorrhagic infarction of the spinal cord following acute injury caused by intervertebral disc extrusion. This causes flaccid paraplegia, total areflexia of the pelvic limbs and anus, loss of deep pain perception caudal to the spinal cord injury site, muscular atrophy, depressed mental state and respiratory difficulty due to intercostals paralysis.
Avatar f tn Syrinx can form in the spinal cord due to spinal cord injury, blockade of CSF, spinal cord necrosis, hemorrhage, spinal cord abscess and degenerative disease of the spinal cord. With age there occur degenerative changes in the spinal cord which can result in disc protrusion and later on formation of syrinx due to cavity formation. http://www.emedicine.com/NEURO/topic359.htm Hope this helps!
1597714 tn?1299828089 Hyperreflexia means overresposive reflexes which could include twitching, suggest upper motor neuron disease, hypernatremia, stroke, brain tumor, spinal cord injury, etc. causes of increased tone of lower limbs are cervical spinal cord injury or tumor, cervical spondylosis, multiple sclerosis, upper motor neuron disorder. Confide in your dad and help him by being around for his neurologist’s office visit. You are very welcome with any further posts on this forum. Take care.
Avatar m tn Cord injury effects the cord and nerves, not so much the blood flow...otherwise all people with spinal cord injuries would have vascular symptoms. I'd see the MD who treats you for ED...again. Tell him/her the same thing as you wrote here.
Avatar m tn Surgery results in stabilization or modest improvement in symptoms for most patients. Delay in treatment may result in irreversible spinal cord injury. Recurrence of syringomyelia after surgery may make additional operations necessary; these may not be completely successful over the long term. In some patients it may also be necessary to drain the syrinx, which can be accomplished using a catheter, drainage tubes, and valves. This system is also known as a shunt.
Avatar m tn So if you have a injury to the spinal cord, lets say for example in T7. The injury happened near the center and affects the sympathetic nervous system. Would it affect the sympathetic nerves from that point and "down"? So everything T7 and lower would be affected or does it excite the entire sympathetic system no matter the injury location?
11119474 tn?1428702170 I'm getting to the point of just feeling helpless. Not only is my Lhermitte's increasing, but so is the weakness and tightness in my legs. I can't hardly walk, although I force myself to, even if I feel like I'm falling over. Considering how quickly things are deteriorating over the past 18 months...
528716 tn?1212777567 First, herniated discs compressing nerves in the lumbar and sacral spinal cord, or a spinal stenosis in the cervical cord can affect bladder function. Patients often have difficulty starting their stream, or can't empty their bladder due to a weak contraction of the bladder. Many patients also get an overactive bladder type picture with urgency, frequency. Your main problem, however may be caused by autonomic dysreflexia (AD).
Avatar m tn I have a spinal cord injury on the right side of my neck, and as a result, my left arm and leg have become somewhat paralyzed. Walking now is a little bit complicated because I sometimes lose my balance when stepping forward. My C1 and C2 vertebrae have been damaged from playing football. I am trying to get back to a normal life as possible, but was wondering if spinal surgery would help my condition?
