Solumedrol blood sugar

Common Questions and Answers about Solumedrol blood sugar

solumedrol

5538989 tn?1514398453 I only had one 5-Day Infusion treatment of Solumedrol when I was first diagnosed and it spiked my blood sugar. This through me for a loop since I am normally hypoglycemic. My sugar returned to normal after the the steroid treatments ended and I haven't had any issues with high blood sugar since. I would have to agree with Lu here on this one and say you really should contact your doctor about your new consistently numbers.
400099 tn?1282954864 I had a first 500 mg iv dose of sol u medrol today and my blood sugar post meal is 259. Doc told me this afternnon just to watch it. I take no meds for diabetes and I am controlled by diet and exercise (lost 43 pounds this year) and blood sugars have been normal. I don't know if I should call the doctor or not...I'm a bit concerned while he seemed to blow it off.
195469 tn?1388322888 This is a good drug, but very hard on someone that is prone to high blood pressure and high blood sugar. Her first treatment with Solumedrol, did not seem to work for her, as well as it did for me. My Optic Neuritis (abbreviated- O.N.) was totally gone in 2 weeks. She said her one eye never really went back to normal. Now the other eye starts. Since the beginning of her attack, she has not been in remission yet. This is a long first attack. I pray for a remission.
Avatar f tn Good for you and bravo for your doc for doing the smart thing for YOU. Many people do fine with home infusions and some can even manage to do them on their own. As you say - it isn't for everyone. As often as everything goes right there is always that time it doesn't. I had home infusions of IVSM for five days. Actually, make that four. The home infusion company required the first dose be given at the hospital or an infusion center since I had never received IV dosing before.
Avatar m tn Does anyone have type 1 diabetes and notice that MS affects their blood sugars? For example has it med it harder for you to control, or does it start to go crazy before or during a flare? I am trying to see if maybe there is a pattern... If you feel that it does affect your sugars if you don't mind sharing how it does I would really appreciate it!
Avatar m tn It is possible to develop diabetes with long term steroid use but it takes longer than a few weeks to happen (lots longer). It is however, pretty much the norm to see blood sugar elevations in non-diabetics taking steroids. Some people receiving them while hospitalized may even need occasional insulin coverage. They return to normal when the steroid therapy is ended. (A little like gestational diabetes in pregnant women.
Avatar f tn I have a 9 month old Baby boy, past tuesday we went to the ER because a fever and cough, after the respiratory therapies and solumedrol they took a blood sample of my baby and the sugar levels were very high I believe (229) and the doctor said it was because of the solumedrol, after that it never was lower than 120-123 even without eating for 5 hours. I like to know if this is normal or i should go to a specialist? Thanks for you help.
400099 tn?1282954864 As I told Heather in PM, if copaxone is causing my blood sugars to rise, it could just be particular to me. I don't know, yet. I skipped yesterday's shot, and blood sugars were down a bit all day. Then this a.m. my fasting was 109. Tomorrow I'm going to take my shot and see what happens. I am truly hoping it isn't the copaxone, just a blip I had to get over. The way one person reacts to a med is not necessarily how another person will react.
Avatar f tn Given the risks (blood sugar issues, bone density changes), steroids are no longer given automatically. I would consider it if I lost vision. One thing to consider -- sometimes the "leftovers" I've had after the acute phase of a relapse actually require me to do something, such as physiotherapy, sleep retraining, or strength training. I'm left with damage that seems like it's still a relapse, but at this point I can make tracks to fix it. Just a thought.
246236 tn?1275478902 Solumedrol can be an excellent way to calm symptoms down if you are being treated due to MS flair-ups. When I had my IV Solmedrol treatment, I was not able to sleep for days I was wired) and the doctor's gave me a weeks' worth of sleeping pills. The Medrol caused havoc with my blood pressure and my blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Were you having problems with your blood sugar, is that why they tested your glucose? I don't think they ever sent me for blood work after my IV solumedrol. I was just wondering if this is typical, but my neuros never do it? I'm glad that you were able to sleep better. I had a steroid shot about a week ago and my heart's been racing - it's annoying and kind of scary at the same time. I wish it would calm down. Good luck with your recovery.
1172359 tn?1310667693 I am scheduled Monday to do an IV for three days of Solumedrol. Has anyone else done that and if so, what is your opinion. I am alittle nervous about it.
Avatar f tn t turn out as bad as I thought - got palpitations immediately, and on my 2nd day, I kept breaking out in a sweat, and my blood sugar got up to almost 200. No biggy. I'm now starting to feel better, into my 4th day and I've started to taper. Two days before I went to the ER, I saw my PCP and she put me on 10mgs of prednisone once a day for 30 days, and told me to return when I'm out.

Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.

Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar n tn Is 130 high for blood sugar?
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had extreme blood sugar drops? Mine gets to where i lose vision and cant walk or almost hurl everywhere:'( i already struggle with hyperglacimia would pregnancy make it worse??
7631083 tn?1394352887 For the past week or so there has been a couple of times where I feel very weak and my hands start to shake. I know it means my blood sugar is low so I will try to hurry up and eat something. Its sometimes when I first wake up and there are times when its in the middle to late at night. I'm 36 weeks and 4 days. I should probably tell my doctor when I go in on Friday or should I be more worried about it and do something now?
Avatar n tn My blood sugar is very high. I was taking Medformin but it started to give trouble. My blood sugar is higher before i eat then it is 20 minutes after. today it was 482 before and 299 after?
233552 tn?1228319699 I went to the doc today and he gave me my results....my blood sugar is 217. I knew that this would happen again but I wanted it to wait another month or two. My doc is going to put me on a diet after this weekend. I told him that you can't put a pregnant woman on a diet and he laughed right along with me. Then he said oh yes I can. Silly doctors. Baby's heartbeat still in the 160's and get U/S next month to find out what I'm having and I can't wait.
Avatar n tn His blood sugars are NOT fine. A fasting level of 121 mg/dl is prediabetes.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
