myself to get up? Is this in my head, or is it possible there are long term effects to pain meds and suboxone use? Could it just be me? Has anyone else felt this?

Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.

What are the long term effects? Now that the issue is resolved. what can we do to head off any long term problems from this?

BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..

I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.

Thank you all for your comments and the push that I needed. I called the doctor and went to the hospital. They have me on 5 days of Solumedrol IV 1gram each day. After today's long ordeal it will be out patient and won't be so bad. Does anyone know if that is a big dose? The doctor's made such a big deal about the dose being "huge" that I got a little paranoid until they got my neuro on the phone.

It is possible to develop diabetes with long term steroid use but it takes longer than a few weeks to happen (lots longer). It is however, pretty much the norm to see blood sugar elevations in non-diabetics taking steroids. Some people receiving them while hospitalized may even need occasional insulin coverage. They return to normal when the steroid therapy is ended. (A little like gestational diabetes in pregnant women.

Hi labwrkr I have had ON twice now and have not taken steroids on either occasion as my doc told me that they do not affect the long term outcome anyway simply help in the short term. I managed with very strong painkillers instead. With my first bout of ON about 19 years ago my eyes took almost a year to recover but left me with some visual problems in the left eye.

his office just called and wants me to take 1 IV treatment of solumedrol - equivalent to 1 gram of the medication. they said if my symptoms improve, this could be more evidence of MS....if they do not improve, then maybe not MS. my concern is that my symptoms aren't very strong and i don't know if i would really notice a difference...or maybe i would? geez, can you tell i am a mess about almost everything! so, have you done this?

My friend has had horrible side effects from Solumedrol and Prednisone and it is making it very difficult for her to continue her job and day to day activities so if this is easier on the body it would be a good thing for her. I'm recovering from an abscessed tooth. Mine developed 3 weeks ago and 2 days lator I had to have an Endodonist drain it on an emergency basis because the swelling was already moving up to my eye. I was told to get the tooth extracted because of my medical condition (Type 1 Diabetic). After I got it drained my dentist put me on 4,000mg of Amoxicillin a day becasue I had to get rid of the infection and the swelling had to continue to go down before he extracted the tooth.

My question that has been difficult to find an answer to, relates to long term effects. I have not been able to find at least an approximate length of time or dosages that can lead to eventual liver cancer in the future. I am currently 26 years old, in relatively good shape physically, do not drink or have any other vices that may exacerbate the vicodin effects on my liver, but am still concerned.

Though I am not addicted and have not used the drug in two years, I am worried about the damage I sustained during this one year period when I would abuse the drug, infrequently, but heavily nonetheless. If anyone has information about long-term effects for short-term, heavy abuse of Robitussin (8 instances of over-dosing on 40 gel-cap pills per instance) I'd love to hear it.
