Actually...zyban is wellbutrin...but in a smaller dosage, wellbutrin is for depression & they discovered it supposedly had an effect on addictive tendencies. I can't take wellbutrin, it gives me panic attacks....sigh....

I started taking Zyban about two months ago for smoking cessation. At first I had very little side effects - in fact, I felt fantastic and ceased smoking within the first week. What you describe, however, strongly suggests that relief of your pain is possible and is probably related to smoking cessation, since that seemed to make the pain subside. Anxiety and panic could play a part in your overall discomfort. Given the relief you got when you stopped smoking, that would appear to be the answer to your problem. If, however, the pain returns despite your not smoking, then it would be wise to have your lungs examined by your doctor and get a chest X-ray.
I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?
wellbutrin is not indicated in the cessation of smoking marijuana, but it does increase your chances of seizure if you drink alcohol while taking it. also, smoking, i think it actually either helps with the cessation of anxiety in anxious peoples or adds anxiety on non anxious people so if you are smoking to chill out (just a guess), you might want to try anti-anxiety meds instead.
Management in such cases should begin with looking for possible secondary cause and appropriate lifestyle changes like weight reduction, smoking cessation, limited salt intake, adequate amount of daily physical exercises etc. An appropriate diet plan would also need to be chalked out with limited salt intake, limited carbohydrates and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits like pomegranate may actually be beneficial in BP reduction as well.
