I live in Oregon and have cirrhosis and three separate doctors refused to write scripts for me by saying my insurance would not pay. A NP finally helped me and insurance did pay. I have Medicare with Oregon Health Plan as secondary. The Health Authority here does not want anyone on OHP/Medicaid to treat even if they do have cirrhosis. The mystery for me is why the doctors go along with it.

I'm fairly positive every state has some form of state funded health care, for instance I live in Oregon so we have the 'oregon health plan' being jobless and pregnant will most likely garuntee you'll be covered..

In the meantime, you and other smokers should take advantage of currently available medicines and state-sponsored, smoking cessation programs. The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.” Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program. Good luck.

I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?

You don't have to monitor your levels every week during the smoking cessation process... I'm sure there's going to be some discomfort, but we've all (those who have quit smoking) gone through discomfort with both the smoking cessation AND being hypo until we got to the correct level of medication.

wellbutrin is not indicated in the cessation of smoking marijuana, but it does increase your chances of seizure if you drink alcohol while taking it. also, smoking, i think it actually either helps with the cessation of anxiety in anxious peoples or adds anxiety on non anxious people so if you are smoking to chill out (just a guess), you might want to try anti-anxiety meds instead.
