315996 tn?1429054229 I live in Oregon and have cirrhosis and three separate doctors refused to write scripts for me by saying my insurance would not pay. A NP finally helped me and insurance did pay. I have Medicare with Oregon Health Plan as secondary. The Health Authority here does not want anyone on OHP/Medicaid to treat even if they do have cirrhosis. The mystery for me is why the doctors go along with it.
Avatar n tn I smoke 2 or 3 cigarettes per day (not packs, individual cigarettes). For the first time, my health insurance require a blood test to determine if you're a smoker. Test date is a little less than a week away --- I didn't see this coming. Will my blood test be positive for smoking? If so, is there anything I can do about it now -- will lots of liquid help, etc.?
Avatar m tn After I stopped smoking, I experienced slight nausea and lots of fatigue the first week. So it's possible it's part of the withdraw process. But I don't know about the canker sores or the fever.
1262435 tn?1270311859 This diminution in risk occurs relatively soon after cessation of smoking, and increasing intervals since the last cigarette smoked are associated with progressively lower mortality rates from CHD. Similar rapid decreases in risk with smoking cessation are also seen for ischemic stroke. Benefits from quitting are seen in former smokers even after many years of heavy smoking.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an equivalent to the patch that one can take....I have insurance but since it just started I do not have any insurance cards yet therefore I cannot afford to get the patch yet. The only pharmacy near me that carries the patch says it's more than $500 for 15. So is there something that can be taken that's basically the same...I have been through w/d too many times to go through it with these bad boys.
Avatar f tn s not, ask them to recommend how to cut back and quit, or ask them to recommend a smoking cessation method to help you (the patch, the gum, etc)...and see if there are any smoking cessation programs in your state that you can call for information as well.
Avatar f tn Go to your local department of human services.. They will help you figure it out and tell you what forms to fill out.. I'm fairly positive every state has some form of state funded health care, for instance I live in Oregon so we have the 'oregon health plan' being jobless and pregnant will most likely garuntee you'll be covered..
467579 tn?1289402969 In the meantime, you and other smokers should take advantage of currently available medicines and state-sponsored, smoking cessation programs. The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.” Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?
Avatar m tn You don't have to monitor your levels every week during the smoking cessation process... I'm sure there's going to be some discomfort, but we've all (those who have quit smoking) gone through discomfort with both the smoking cessation AND being hypo until we got to the correct level of medication.
Avatar n tn my wife is taking bupropion sr 150 mg to quit smoking and wants to know if cold medication can be taken while on this drug.
Avatar m tn wellbutrin is not indicated in the cessation of smoking marijuana, but it does increase your chances of seizure if you drink alcohol while taking it. also, smoking, i think it actually either helps with the cessation of anxiety in anxious peoples or adds anxiety on non anxious people so if you are smoking to chill out (just a guess), you might want to try anti-anxiety meds instead.
11294269 tn?1422402907 I agree with rambler. And totally understand not having insurance. I live in Oregon and since I'm pregnant I can get on the Oregon health plan but it is taking forever!!! I'm almost 10 wks and so far have not been able to get or schedule an ultrasound because its expensive and I need insurance first. If possible can u go to a free woman's health clinic? They either r free or income based....
1671473 tn?1450592437 Within two years after smoking cessation, the percentage of hypothyroid cases attributable to cessation of smoking was 85%. Current smoking was not associated with altered risk for developing overt hypothyroidism (OR: 0.92 (0.57-1.48)). CONCLUSIONS: The risk of having overt autoimmune hypothyroidism diagnosed is more than 6 fold increased the first 2 years after cessation of smoking. Clearly smoking cessation is vital to prevent death and severe disease.

2107732 tn?1335127983 It is not uncommon for a person to develop a productive cough following smoking cessation, as one’s lungs recover and the bronchial tubes are able to clear accumulated “crap” out of the lungs. This can occur just about anytime following smoking cessation and may continue for 6-12 months. That may be what is happening. On the other hand, what you describe may be a sign of infection and may be accompanied by fever, fatigue, malaise and/or loss of appetite.
