Avatar f tn How long have u been on simvastatin? The dose can be increased to 80mg if necessary. cpk is an emzyme found in both skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. If it was normal then u do not have rhabdomylosis, which is the side effect of simvastatin which your doctor was looking for. He has done the correct test and the result was negative. Return to doctor for further investigation of these muscle aches.

Avatar m tn Effective in June 2011 the FDA recommends limiting the dose of simvastatin to a maximum dose of 40 mg, with the exception of patients already taking simvastatin 80 mg daily for a period of greater than 12 months who have not developed any myalgia side effects. The FDA make this restriction because at the highest dose of simvastatin 80 mg daily the incidence of serious myopathy was higher than using other available statins.
Avatar m tn 4 [0027] These cases involve the administration of simvastatin to patients with known Hepatitis B and C, and other causes of liver cirrhosis, mainly alcoholic. All of these patients had normal alphafetoprotein levels and were given simvastatin on a daily basis since their first diagnosis of their liver disease. Avatar m tn The following fall/winter, as the weather began to cool down, I began to notice that my hands and feet were colder than normal. As I went in around August of 2011 for a follow up doc apt, I asked if having colder hands and feet were symptoms that some patients encountered. Both my general practioner and heart Dr. said that they have never heard of this. I used to be the one with the warmer body heat and my wife the colder one. Today it is reverse.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
Avatar f tn After being on it a year, I started getting achey calves..saw my doctor. Got checked for blood clots. All normal. B12 normal. potassium normal. I saw a new doctor who took me off the medicine this past August. I also just started taking 200mg of Coq10. The muscle pain has not gotten worse, but has spread to my arms, my chest, my shoulders.. it is horrible. Does anyone else suffer from this? The doctor thinks its from the statin.

With the diet his cholesterol is 150 and the bp is now 115/70 and he finally lost 30 pounds and can keep it off so he is at 176. Avatar f tn t recall where) about high dose Simvastatin. I was taking 20 mg now 10 mg for about a year.. that level still does what I need. 2) Beta blockers will lower HR, as you know. A resting HR of 50 shouldn't be a problem if you can function, stand up without getting dizzy.... for example. I'd consider stoping teh BB altogether, it is not doing anyting to cure you heart rhythm problem, and if you can live with the PVC, and get a more nomal and functional HR that could be your getter choice.
Avatar f tn If this is raised then there is muscle injury and the drugs should b stopped. If CPK is normal, then the dose and exercise adjustment should help. Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain.

As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
