My 15yr. old male, neutered, Pekingese, Petey, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 renal failure.
He does have some other health issues as well. He has insulinoma (tumors in pancreas), as well as pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs due to "leaky" heart valve).
He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension around March of this year by a cardiologist.
Now I have a Left Ventricular Bundle Branch Block, Ejection Faction/Left Ventricular Function depression, Hypertension, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Left Ventricular Dilation, Left Ventricular Asynergic contractions, Excentrical, Left Ventricular Hypertrophy, Mitral Valve Regurgitation, Early Diastolic Function, Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation, and Limited Oxygen intake in blood. Could all this have started because of the ASD residuals?
3. Persistent enlargement of the main pulmonary artery suggestive of pulmonary arterial hypertension. My dr. just told me to watch for hemoptysis. I know pulmonary AV malformations are not that common and even less common in the upper lobes. Should they be treated? I have read about possible complications from them. Also, my pulmo. told me I have alveolitis. I assume that is what the groundglass nodule is. Any insight you could give would be helpful.

With out knowing which part the measurement came from it would be hard to tell. But it not a bad number for any of those diameters. As far as pulmonary hypertension goes it is also known in the medical world as PH and what it means is that the arteries inside of the chest wall basically are having high blood pressure and its easily treated by docs. I would say that your doc needs to sit you down and go over all of this with you so that you aren't in the dark here......
I also had an echocardiogram, which showed a high pulmonary arterial pressure of 42mmHg. I have been a figure skater for the last 10+ years, logging several thousand hours of vigorous training at 8000 feet elevation. I live and work at 5500 feet. I am assuming that this high altitude skating has raised my pulmonary arterial pressure. I still train and generally feel well. Am I inflicting damage on my body by continuing to do this?
Were you diagnosed with pulmonary venous hypertension or pulmonary arterial hypertension? There is a difference in treatment. Primary pulmonary hypertension is a term that is no longer used. It seems to me you should be going to a PH clinic.
Will improving LV diastolic dysfunction help lower pulmonary pressures due to secondary pulmonary hypertension?
The facts (echo):
1. LV "mildly" hypertrophic (posterior wall thickness- 1.5 cm, septal thickness 1.2cm).
2."suggestion of concentric left ventricular hypertrophy".
3.LV ejection fraction normal.
4.Mital valve and aortic valve areas are reduced (although I have researched this, and according to the #'s on the echo, the aortic area is normal at 2.5cm)

Having scleroderma would also predispose you to SPAH (secondary pulmonary arterial hypertension). If those values are elevated, then that could also be contributing to your shortness of breath. Just an idea to consider if your doctor hasn't already.

HI, Im trying to figure out if i have pulmonary arterial hypertension, or a lung disease, or if my symptoms are just anxiety/asthma/allergies or something else.
about two months ago I was on prednisone for very bad inflammation, breathing problems, presumably caused by mold exposure.
But even more importantly, ECHO is NOTORIOUSLY unreliable for evaluating pulmonary hypertension. It is wrong ALL the time. Moreover, the number 42 is barely abnormal anyways (and again, if accurate, this was during pregnancy).
What is most important is your symptoms. We do not treat "numbers" by echo. I suspect that as you continue to get reconditioned, sleep more (as your baby sleeps more, etc) your fatigue, etc will improve.
Hi, pulmonary hypertension is defined as an increase in mean pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) ≥25 mmHg at rest as assessed by right heart catheterization. PH can be found in multiple clinical conditions. And the if the oxygen levels are chronically below 88% then oxygen therapy is indicated, as this might cause damage to vital organs. Regards.
