Now that I have stopped taking Geodon, I would like to know if anyone out there has been through the same experience with weight gain AND if weight loss is a side effect of coming off of Geodon? If not, is it easier to lose weight once you are off of the medication? I have my mind back and now I want my body back! Hope to hear some good news!

I have lost about 5 lbs. in 6 weeks. I feel as if the Seroquel is inhibiting my weight loss. I read that Metformin is now being prescribed to aid in weight loss for people on antidepressants. Has anyone had any success with losing weight while on these antidepressants? Has anyone tried Metformin for weight loss?

I HAD MEMOREY LOSS AND SEVERE WEIGHT GAIN. I did not get my memory back that was loss but as soon as i stopped taking it i had no memory loss and loss all the weight i had gained by taking Seruquel and then some. I advise anyone do not take this medication it is really bad for you.I am not a doctor it is my personal oppion. I know because i know what it took from my life alot and i cannot get that back.

The control group was given the same dose of Seroquel, but without the diet and exercise. The latter group gained four pound. So, my question is this; does Seroquel cause weight gain because it has such and impact on your metabolism or is it because of the increase cravings for junk food? Or is a combination that one can control?

but am not sure why that would matter. Thought i had read where seroquel was bad for weight gain. Am thinking about dropping it and just using the cpap to see if i can sleep and stop gaining weight. anyone have experience with weight gain on any of these meds?

Seroquel makes everyone tired, its used as sleeper for cancer patients for that reason as well as stimulating appetite. The XR less so.

Weight gain is a problem with some of the medications along with dramatic weight loss. When I was on a Seroquel for a period of time I gained some weight, but not alot, just because I was not using it for its intended purpose but as a sleeping medication. However, it did not work for me and I proved to be leaving it quickly because of it's interactions with other drugs at the time.

I have lost quite a few inches but no real weight. I went off the Seroquel 2 weeks ago and continue my intense work out schedule, to date I have still not lost any weight. My calories are restricted to 1000 per day which I strictly maintain. So I ask WHY after all this work and dumping the Seoquel am I not loosing weight? I am even on Aderall 60mg. in the day which totally kills the appetite. I have to make myself eat 1000 calories a day. This drug screwed up my metabolism plain and simple.

Some may gain weight with increase on appetite, or some will lose weight with decrease on appetite. I am on seroquel and abilify, and so far they havent caused any weight gain for me, or weight loss! I was on geodon at one point to, but that was a nightmare! You will have to sit back, and see what happens. If you really dont want the weight gain, then exercising should definitely help! I cant say for sure either, what the result will be!

I am on 300mg of seroquel and 200 zoloft, and yes there has been weight gain somethign i struggle with. I'm all about the sugar especially at night time. One thing i did start that actually has been really great was a Vitamin B complex, and it has really curbed my appetite especially at night. Been on it just over a week and have lost 3 pounds. might be worth a try.

Currently I am taking Wellbutrin XL, topamax, Lamictal, and Xanax (for sleep) and have been feeling desperate on what to try next for my Bipolar. I have been on Seroquel for over 2 years and it really has been my bestfriend. I have just added Latuda to the mix and take them both at night with a whopping 300 calorie snack. That is because of the Latuda. Have to take that stuff with food. I was wondering about asking my doctor to add a little topomax to my diet. DX with Cyclothymia and was given script for Effexor, then Seroquel and now Abilify. Dumped Seroquel down toilette and want to do the same with Abilify. Pristiq was the best and want to find MD who will put me on that.

There may be indirect factors which lead to weight loss. One of them is the awareness of being overweight. Seroquel does play a role in weight gain. And the most important factor to be considered is the depression. Depression itself is a major risk factor for weight gain. Treat your depression, get to a good exercise schedule and you will see a reduction in weight.

I take Seroquel xr and Lithium. The Seroquel xr for about two and a half months. The Lithium for over ten years. The Lithium, I do not believe it causes weight gain. Seroquel xr, yes. It, so far is the best antipsychotic I have ever taken, we'll see as the time goes on. I gained about fifteen pounds at first on Seroquel xr! I cut out most colas, I never have been a snacker. It does not make me crave food or sugar, it just adds weight.

Over the past 6 months I have gained 30 pounds. I have OCD and was put on Lexapro along with other meds which really put the weight on fast. My doctor swithced my meds to Zoloft, Serequel, Anfranil, Klonopin, and Proprnolol for my anxiety and OCD. My OCD is finally under control but now all I do is obsess about my weight. It is really impacting my social life. I currently take 25mg of topamax in the morning and 50mg at night.

I have found that when I stopped taking these meds that it took 8 to 10 months before I was able to see significant weight loss (and for my metabolism to readjust itself. I have always had a very healthy diet and get plenty of exercise even while on those antipsychotic drugs. Can someone please tell me why these drugs cause the metabolism to slow down.

I just started Seroquel. The first tab last night. I felt so trippy. It scared me and I made myself go to sleep just to avoid the experience I was having. I also heard it causes crazy weight gain. Is that true? Right now I feel nausea.

With Geodon, everyone including myself when I took it is required to get an EKG because of the concern of heart arrythmia. The only mood stabilizer that can cause weight loss and is also specifically prescribed for this effect is Topomax but generally its only used as a supplemental mood stabilizer and it has some side effects of its own of concern.

Certain medical disorders or medications can cause weight gain/inability to lose.. You might talk to your doctor to see if there are alternative meds you can take that might control you disorders, without causing weight gain. In my case, I have hypothyroidism, which slows my metabolism -- if my thyroid levels aren't right, there's no way I can lose weight, because thyroid controls metabolism.....

Has anyone in here experienced an extreme amount of weight gain when on Seroquel XR? I was overweight before but it seemed like I really can't keep a hold on my weight. It just keeps climbing. Help!!
