Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
Tuesday sore throat was worse I could barely swallow. Went to MD and had a strep throat test- negative. Also swollen lymph nodes in neck and slight fever 101.
No other cold or flu symptoms. I can only swallow ice water or ice chips. After 3 days I now have a blistery rash on my hands also. Could this be mono or something else- should I see Dr again?
On September 12th I went to the doc with my throat swelled shut. They done a rapid strep test anf sure enough I had it. She gave me a shot of steroids, shot of antibiotics and antibiotics to take at home. My throat felt much better within a day or 2.
A couple days ago the skin around ny fingers started peeling and then got worse. Is that normal with strep? I never developed a rash.
t until later that the scarlet fever rash showed up. The strep infection was in my blood stream. Once I took the course of antibiotics it was gone. So I'm not sure that something like a throat swab is going to indicate that the infection is indeed eradicated. Maybe have to ask for some blood work to be done.

After thinking again about what you said. Scarlet fever rash comes within 4 days of getting strep throat. SO, I think it is a allergy to the antibiotic.Anaphylactic rash and other serious allergy comes right awaywithin hours. A lot of rashes take time to develop and you immune system has to kick in an make antibodies against it. You can develop a rash in 2 -6 weeks after taking antibiotics. This is not a sign of an immune problem it is natural for it to take a while.
she has a very, very bad sore throat, extreme headache and neck ache, dizziness, nausea, a rash covers almost her whole body. I wanted to add to this because my son recently experienced the same thing. He had scarlet fever, which basically comes with strep throat for some people. It started just like that, I noticed tiny red dots all over his body. We got medicine for his strep and then just gave him oatmeal baths and used non scented lotion. Also, besides pus, do you have a high fever? Any swollen lymph nodes? You can get a strep test at CVS pharmacy as they have a physician assistant there if you don't want to go to the doctor. It is better to go to the doctor for a strep test though because sometimes you can get false negatives from the strep test. But it is fairly accurate. If it is negative the doctor can send it for culture. I don't know if CVS will do that. It is a thought.

Possible exposures: sex with man (status unknown), with condom, just over a month ago. Almost two weeks ago, oral sex (giving and receiving) with a different man (status unknown), ejaculated in my mouth both times.
You need a mono test, and a strep test due to the rash and sore throat, also a throat culture to test for different bacterias (Strep A and Strep B). The rapid strep tests they do in the clinic only test for one type of strep. Also, even though rare anymore, you should ask them about possible scarlet fever. You need a new CBC done, it is possible that the WBC has went up since the last test. And also have an epstein barr virus test just in case the rapid mono spot test comes back negative.
