Common Questions and Answers about Scarlet fever rash strep

scarlet-fever

Avatar f tn As far as I know it is bacterial... the bacterial illness, scarlet fever, causes a distinctive pink-red rash, which occurs when the bacteria release toxins. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious - people can catch it by breathing in the bacteria in airborne droplets that come from an infected individual's sneezes or coughs. Infection may also occur as a result of touching the skin of an infected person, or touching surfaces or objects that the infected person has touched.
Avatar m tn (only strep infection). Or even Scarlet fever with no rash? Also, when I had Strep I had the tendency to self-induce vomit by using my ring and middle fingers, could that generalized the strep infection towards my fingers which still lasts until now?
Avatar n tn The rash of scarlet fever is usually associated with headache and a fever .The rash has a rough feel to it and may be reddish over the arms and legs. However ,in your case the rash does not appear like this based on the images. A superimposed viral infection is your physician's primary differential. Continue to obeserve the rash and note for any scaling of the skin or development of enlarged lymph nodes especially over the neck. Take lots of fluids and eat well.
Avatar f tn s stretching it- But my son had peeling itching toes and fingers after scarlet fever which is a dreaded disease but actually is only a step above strep..... Has he had Strep throat? followed by another week or so with a rash/sunburned looking?
Avatar f tn it could be due to the fever gave her a heat rash. the rash is in all the heat pertained ares. could be heat rash. her body fighting against the fever. ive had the heat rash before but they werent rough to the touch.
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
Avatar n tn Scarlet fever is nothing more than a form of strep throat that causes a high fever and a rash. Is is not related to STD's in any form. Once you have had it, the chances of reoccuring is suppose to be slim however my son had it 3 times. They finally removed his tonsills and adenoids and he has not had it since. Also my son was fatigued and had achiness for a while following antibotics but this does go away.

Avatar m tn But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis. They need to determine if he got any of these complications (which are rare) .By doing more tests. Did they ever culture Group A strep from his throat? It takes a few months for the ASO titer to go down and also for the lymph nodes to go down.
Avatar f tn Hey there, I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice. Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
Avatar n tn Hi again, After thinking again about what you said. Scarlet fever rash comes within 4 days of getting strep throat. SO, I think it is a allergy to the antibiotic.Anaphylactic rash and other serious allergy comes right awaywithin hours. A lot of rashes take time to develop and you immune system has to kick in an make antibodies against it. You can develop a rash in 2 -6 weeks after taking antibiotics. This is not a sign of an immune problem it is natural for it to take a while.
Avatar n tn Well, Heather pretyy much said it all. A titer of 1:160 is pretty low. In the presence of arthritis and/or an elevated Sed Rate it, still might be important. For the majority of kids with a low-positive ANA it doesn't indicate a true underlying disease. Scarlet Fever is the just rash of the strep germ, especially of strep throat, though the infection can be other places. It is not really a separate disease than a strep infection.
Avatar f tn sounds like scarlet fever, which is what my doctor told me that i had. the rashes on the hands especially explain it.
Avatar f tn I wanted to add to this because my son recently experienced the same thing. He had scarlet fever, which basically comes with strep throat for some people. It started just like that, I noticed tiny red dots all over his body. We got medicine for his strep and then just gave him oatmeal baths and used non scented lotion. It got really bad and the entire top layer of his skin ended up peeling off. It was not fun. Just a suggestion, hope I could help.
Avatar n tn Within a few days, the redness fades and a finely textured rash, sometimes referred to as a sandpaper rash, develops. The rash is caused by toxins produced by the streptococcal bacteria. The rash and skin discoloration usually last for about three to seven days, at which time there may be peeling of skin around the fingertips and toes and in the groin area. ref:http://www.medem.com/search/article_display.cfm?path=n:&mstr=/ZZZWSJ2K1AC.
Avatar m tn t until later that the scarlet fever rash showed up. The strep infection was in my blood stream. Once I took the course of antibiotics it was gone. So I'm not sure that something like a throat swab is going to indicate that the infection is indeed eradicated. Maybe have to ask for some blood work to be done.
Avatar n tn My son had developed Scarlet Fever, which is Strep bacteria that has gotten into the blood stream. Strep produces an erythrotoxin (red toxin) that causes the redness. It may cause a rash, too. I would take your child to a doctor immediately.
Avatar f tn The next day my fever ws gone and the only thing that lingers is a sore throat. My mother being an RN seems to think it is scarlet fever caused by a dormant strep infection I had about a month ago. I am not so sure as I did not have any strawberry tongue are patches in my mouth. Problem is she is nearly half way across the country and can't see the rash to help. The oldest spots are beginning to fade but the ones in the moist area re bright and it seems to be slowly spreading...
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn It is possible to have a severe case of strep like you are describing. I would stay as far away as possible from this person until it is resolved.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I'm a 20 year old female wondering if it's possible that I am experiencing symptoms of acute HIV. Here's the background: Possible exposures: sex with man (status unknown), with condom, just over a month ago. Almost two weeks ago, oral sex (giving and receiving) with a different man (status unknown), ejaculated in my mouth both times.
Avatar n tn A rash and a fever could be scarlet fever. How high is the temp?
Avatar f tn Also, besides pus, do you have a high fever? Any swollen lymph nodes? You can get a strep test at CVS pharmacy as they have a physician assistant there if you don't want to go to the doctor. It is better to go to the doctor for a strep test though because sometimes you can get false negatives from the strep test. But it is fairly accurate. If it is negative the doctor can send it for culture. I don't know if CVS will do that. It is a thought.
Avatar n tn There is one disease that is described as sandpaper-like texture and that is SCARLET FEVER due to Group A Streptococci. We just saw a child with sandpaper-like texture had no symptoms but a few days later had a sore throat and then developed Strep. Take your child to a Peds Doctor and have the throat cultured. Let us know if you need any further information. Post us about what your doctor advises. Regards.
