Avatar n tn Infants catch colds all the time because their immune systems are very week. She cold catch allergins from the air outside if the window is open.
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar m tn Dear Rjthkids, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that can cause severe pulmonary infections in infants. The effects of this, especially in the still developing lungs after birth, can take a long time from which to recover. However, you have a special circumstance that complicates things: you live at significant altitude. The relative lack of oxygen at that altitude can lead to elevated blood pressure across the lungs, which is called pulmonary hypertension.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
2189208 tn?1339572701 Rsv is a really bad cold it does nothing,to adults but is in,some cases fatal to infants!
Avatar n tn For instance juvenile diabetes is thought to be triggered by a virus - the child was already set up to be vulnerable to developing it, they catch a viral illness and a few weeks later their pancreas starts to stop working and they develop signs of diabetes. Same goes with rsv, a very common respiratory virus that in infants and the elderly ( or immunosuppressed ) can cause them to be very ill.
Avatar n tn I am very sorry your baby nephew is having these problems at such a young age. I don't really understand about being a 'blue baby' although my half sister was one. From what i have learned thru the years, it happens because of the mother and father's blood not being able to mix very well which produces a 'blue baby'. Click on the link below. It will give you helpful information to better understand the pulmonary problems. (Pulmonary is a major artery in the heart).
229857 tn?1319029907 Oh he also has a little rash on his face which I know is common in babies that have a cold or other type of infection... the thing im worried about is RSV??? I think thats what its called. I read online it usually shows up between 4-6 week olds and he is 4 weeks... also im worried about the dark yellow mucus being an infection like pneunomia or something.. Gosh I hate the internet!!
17339543 tn?1455969537 Take him to Dr asap Please Don't mess around with a baby this young! 593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
1507909 tn?1313633804 My 2 month old baby just had her shots yesterday and she was in a little pain so I gave her some infants Motrin because I didnt have any Tylenol and it was late at night then I was told by a few friends that u don't give Motrin til after 6 months now I'm a lil worried I mean she seems to be fine to me she's just sleeping a lil more should be worried or is it ok to give Motrin I followed the weight/dosage chart perfectly.
973741 tn?1342342773 but Influenza is excruciatingly painful (and RSV was not painful but is the only virus I went to an ER fearing death.) I fear Influenza so much I have been doing masks and Listerine for years but all it takes is that one exposure (RSV) during a lapse in following my own advice. I am curious whether Influenza could be eradicated in the future.
Avatar n tn My son Jack has been experiencing skin irritation for the last month or so. He started off out of the blue with red spots under the skin with very little "bump' to them. I thought for sure he was getting Chx Pox but that was not it, did some research in Mumps since it looked more like that. no go there. He still experiences itching around his neck, back and arms.. His eyes have dark circles under them as well.
287246 tn?1318570063 Sorry to hear that Mary. Was she tested for RSV? I know is pretty common for our little ones to get it at such young age especially if someone else is sick in the house. Brandon's sickness started the same way with chest congestion and it was RSV. I hope is not that and if just a common chest congestion. I hope she feels better.
Cat According to the CDC it is safe to be around infants and young children after getting the shingles vaccine. There is no documentation of children getting chickenpox from someone who has recently received the shingles vaccine. Enjoy your new grandson!!!
Avatar m tn Singapore led study has shown that Hepatitis B Virus Infection (HBV) exposure increases the immune system maturation of infants, which may give a better survival advantage to counteract bacterial infection during early life.
Avatar f tn He has always been a little snorty/congested, but when he got a mild case of RSV in February the runny nose never seemed to go away. I have taken him to several allergists. He did have the skin test which came back negative. One doc. said he needed to be treated for nasal infections (each test seemed to show a different bacteria) but after several rounds of different antibiotics I didn't feel comfortable and left that doc.
Avatar f tn Not sure what ages you're looking at. But there's quite a range from infants through age 18. You might want to share a little more information. Better yet, call a pharmacist; they have all kinds of information to help you with your paper.
Avatar f tn Yes I also gave my children cooled, boiled water when they were young and in between the milk feeding, I am uncertain what the protocal is today and it varies from the country you live in.You may want to ask the Doctor of the child, I do not believe it would hurt the child but best be safe and ask.
Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
478429 tn?1265244387 Well, after going back and forth and debating whether or not I should get this vaccine has really been tough on me. I recieved my flu shot yesterday and asked the PA what he thought of the H1N1 vaccine. He said to me "Honestly, you really need to get it being pregnant...The mortality rate for pregnant woman is now up to 50% and the vaccine may also protect your baby once born which is good b/c infants are too young to receive the flu vaccines...
Avatar m tn Dear Worried Mom, Without evaluating your son, I cannot say for sure what is happening with him. I can say that a prominent patterns of veins in infants and young toddlers does not necessarily correlate with heart disease. In fact, their skin is so "see-through" that it's very easy to see when they turn blue peripherally or if their veins are prominent.
