Avatar m tn Dear Laura Lee, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that can cause significant pulmonary as well as cardiac damage. Without having further information about your son, I can't say exactly what happened with him. I can say that myocarditis, which in children is typically due to a viral infection, causes damage to the heart most likely from both the virus itself as well as the body's immune response.

Avatar f tn Hi, respiratory syncytial virus is a very common virus that causes cold-like symptoms, but can lead to breathing difficulties. Those who are more prone to develop serious respiratory infections as a result of RSV include premature babies and those born with heart or lung problems. Regards.
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.

Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytical Virus (RSV) is not a 12-week illness. What may have started as RSV may be something else right now. Reactive Airways Disease (RAD) is a state when a child has been wheezing and the cause is not necessarily defined. When this is short term associated with a particular virus, it is RSV. When this lasts for a longer period, it is often called asthma. The medications used most often for the treatment of this problem are bronchodilators (ventolin is one of these) and steroids.

Avatar n tn This may be residual airway reactivity from the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which is also aggravated by the girls having had Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). This is not uncommon. It is also not uncommon for this to last a while and be associated with wheezing. I think the approach your family physician has tried is a good one. If this fails, you may consider seeing a specialist.
Avatar n tn Did they diagnose him with RSV? Usually they will have you neb them, but it's a virus and they don't give an antibiotic right away, so it coud very well be something else, like an infection.
Avatar n tn t seizures, which was negitive. They also tested his CKP levels, for RSV virus, and an EKG. He has just been released from the hospital where they looked into the reflux diagnosis (which I thought was odd because he isn't a spit-uppy baby) they did a upper GI, a PH probe and a sleep study which showed nothing and disproved there reflux theory. They now say they don't know what it could possible be, so they are going to just let it be.
Avatar n tn The most common cause of bronchiolitis is a virus called respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), most commonly occurring in epidemics in late fall and winter each year. RSV affects almost all infants. Bronchiolitis can be a severe disease, but only about 1% of affected children require hospitalization. Premature infants and infants with underlying heart and lung disease are most at risk for severe, even life-threatening infections.
Avatar f tn You should confirm with your doctor why you have the RSV virus, kidney infections and get your answers on how to prevent any future pleasantry's.

Avatar m tn First dose on Nov 9th 1995, 11 years old Second dose on Dec 13 1995, 11 years old So 5 all together it seems with a big time gap. Booster likely needed?? What number is safe for Anti-HBs? And finally, what precautions should one take living with someone with chronic Hep B? I read the virus remains on surfaces for several days, that is a lot of disinfecting to do for everyone.
