Avatar f tn s still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying. He's sitting down now watching a video now.
Avatar n tn This virus is so common that it probably visits us once or twice or even more ( depending on how many people actually live at home ) . It shows up as ( the common cold) in older children and adults and can present with sneezing , coughing , sore throat and lots of nasal discharge . This virus is not unique in producing these symptoms , there are many other viruses that can do the same .
Avatar n tn My daughter gets needles to prevent RSV because she was born preemie. RSV, doesnt harm adults or older children and most of the time people dont know they have it. It has alot of cold symptoms. Respiratory Synical Virus... (i think that is what it stands for.. ) IT is basically a bad cold. Though very contagious and harmful to pregnant people and little children and babies. (mainly under the age of 2) Most people can fight it off like a cold.
Avatar f tn RSV is a very serious complication with children under the age of 2, but it can affect anyone. It is a severe upper respiratory infection. If you've taken her to get checked out she has a clean bill of health, trust your docs! They take RSV very seriously. My newborn niece had RSV. She had a rattly cough in her lungs and had to have breathing treatments.
Avatar n tn a cold will, and if you are implying your baby is premature then you need to call his or her pediatrician as premature babies are eprone to RSV which is a very dangerous respertory illness in children yet alone a premature infant.
Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is similar to the influenza virus that causes the flu. In infants and young children it can cause lung infections such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia. RSV infections happen over a period of time. They usually start with what appears as a cold and goes into a cough. Children respond in differing ways and differing levels of severity to this infection.
Avatar n tn My older son got it as well from daycare, but he was around 4 months old at the time. RSV can look like a cold in older kids, or you may not notice it at all. Please be careful. I would pay it in a heartbeat. We have had so many x-rays, blood tests, visits...it's been really expensive and the meds he's on are crazy. He's on steroids again, plus the highest dose you can get on an inhaler, plus nebs, antibiotics, acid reflux meds...you don't want to be here.
Avatar n tn I have read several e-mails all pretty much saying the same things, their children had been very sick for a long time. Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....
Avatar n tn I HAVE TWO OLDER CHILDREN AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. WHEN I TAKE HIM TO THE DR FOR SYMPTOMS THEY ALWAYS ORDER A CHEST XRAY AND BLOOD WORK AND IT ALWAYS SHOWS THE SAME THING PNEUMONIC INFILTRATES IN THE LEFT MIDDLE AND LOWER LOBE AND SOMETHING IS ALWAYS WRONG WITH HIS BLOOD WORK BUT USUALLY IT IS BORDERLINE AND THEY EXCUSE IT. PLEASE HELP.
Avatar m tn Can Rsv cause cardiac arrest in a child who has past myocarditis? My son had viral myocarditis at 7 months and got rsv at 2 two weeks later passed away. And with his passed medical history should they have done something different like check his heart?
Avatar n tn He has all of the symptoms of RSV...they did the mucous test and said he has moderate case and that the ventolin and cortisone inhaler will help make him comfortable, although I am losing faith in his Dr. since I was the one that was showing the most concern for an answer. We have been in to see her once a week for 12 weeks...he has ran 2 very high fevers that lasted days each one, along with crying when coughing...is this a true diagnoses or is she covering her tracks for treatment?
Avatar f tn Does any one else have ungrateful and lazy older children? It is hard on my pregnancy with stress. My kids do not care how stressed they make me or how much I have to do to clean up after them. All I hear is I want this or that and dinner was not what I want so throw it away and make us each something different. I have one with a birthday in a week and two with birthdays in December.
1347128 tn?1333810296 My baby had RSV at the beginning of november, he was hospitalized for 3 days 2 nights. he was 6 weeks old. But since then, he has a phlegm sound and boogers, he has trouble breathing speacially during the night and when he wakes up. He uses humedifier all the time, and I am just sad that he doesnt get any better today his pediatrician told me he is negative for RSV, what else can I do to help him get better?
Avatar n tn It may or may not go away as your son gets older. It is not possible to make such a prediction. About half of the children who have an RSV infection go on to develop asthma. In 2/3 of those without any family history of allergy or asthma, the asthma goes away over time. In those with a family history of allergy or asthma, it is most likely that it will not go away. If these symptoms are persisting and requiring more medicine to control attacks, it is a good idea to see a specialist.
Avatar n tn I copied this form a web site Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common viral disease of the lungs. It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths.
Avatar n tn s sick. Xopenex is used to treat and PREVENT bronchospasm in children and adults. Pulmicort is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Amoxicillin is a antibiotic which a lot of times is used to treat bronchitis along with many other things.
Avatar n tn Bronchiolitis is usually caused by a viral infection, most commonly respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). RSV infections are responsible for more than half of all cases of bronchiolitis and are most widespread in the winter and early spring. ___________ It sounds like the relationship of bronchiolitis and asthma is still being studied. In the meantime, I would work to ease the other factors, such as exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke, that he might be exposed to. Good luck!
Avatar n tn This narrowing results from inflammation(swelling) caused by any of a number of viruses, usually the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). RSV occurs in epidemics almost every winter. Whereas infants with RSV develop bronciolitis, children over 2 years of age and adults just develop cold symptoms. This virus is found in nasal secretions of infected individuals. It is spread by sneezing or coughing at a range of less than 6 feet or by hand-to-nose or hand-to-eye contact.

Avatar n tn My eleven year old daughter has experienced odd symptoms from about four weeks of age. It seems as though she gets everything that comes along. We are frustrated to say the least. The list seems long: -Elevated biliruben for 5 weeks at birth -RSV and double pneumonia at 6wks -ongoing colds and pneumonias (no less than annual) and strep rashes -RSV at age 2 again requiring hospitalization -Age 2-4 spontaneous vomitting on about a 30 day cycle.
