Ropinirole for leg cramps

Common Questions and Answers about Ropinirole for leg cramps

requip

Avatar m tn In my personal experience, muscle relaxants are not very effective for acute leg cramps or rls -- they are much more effective for sustained muscle tension, spasm and limitation of movement. It depnds on the cause of the leg cramps, but most often mineral supplements are the most effective - calcium, magnesium and potassium. A banana (potassium source) at bedtime can work wonders! RLS (restless leg syndrome) is a different matter.
620048 tn?1358018235 My pulmomologist gave me ropinirole (Requip) because i have so much movement in my limbs, especially my feet, when I am sleeping and when I am awake too. I was looking up the drug and i found this side effect........ 'Some people using ropinirole have developed a gambling habit. It is not known whether ropinirole actually causes this effect. Talk with your doctor if you believe you have an unusual urge to gamble while you are taking ropinirole.
Avatar f tn I'm glad you found something that worked. RLS was the worst for me too. Ropinirole is sold in the US as Requip. It was originally prescribed for Parkinson' Disease and then it was discovered that it works for RLS. Keep going forward. It will be over soon.
Avatar n tn It mainly effects one leg, but sometimes it will be both. I have been diagnosed by my Dr, but the meds he gave me are not helping. He says there is no cure, but prescribed me a medicine for MS. It feels like a horse is chewing on my foot. They dont tingle, they THROB. The only relief I have found is a hot heating pad, tiger balm and alot of prayer. I wake up exhausted from fighting the pain.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from a form of restless leg for over 20 years, when my brain wants to relax especially at bed time, my leg muscles in top & bottom start to go into spasm, causing my legs to kick out. Its so sever that if prevents me from falling asleep. I am on tablets called Ropinerol they work to a point but the older I get the worse the spasms get.
Avatar n tn Dopamine agonists such as ropinirole, pramipexole, carbidopa/levodopa or pergolide are used and you have to monitor these drugs. There are some issues with the use of dopamine agonists. There are conditions where the drug itself causes symptoms to increase in severity and/or occur earlier in the day. Monitoring the adverse effects of the drug and titrating a proper dosage is important for your daughter. Take care!
Avatar f tn I looked online and found out that Tramadol ( a generic for Ultram 50) will help it and it has no side effects. I told my doctor and he prescribed it for me and it works wonders! I take it about 2-3 hours before I go to bed. I have restless leg real bad. I used to control it with a glass ofmilk and a banana every night but it progressed beyond that. Try it!
Avatar m tn I have been taken Ropinirole for sometime now and it helps a little. As for sleep,I get very little of.
Avatar f tn I've been dealing with a form of dysautonomia since 2006, with symptoms that are ringing in the ears, Raynaud's, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, a sensation of choking at times, but most troubling a sensation of being drunk/ dizzy...I have had high blood pressure in the past which resolved on its own. Over the past couple years I developed heart palpitations, fluttering, flip flopping etc...the past 8 months or so..

Avatar m tn I am a 39 year old male that has suffered for years with restless legs, leg/joint pain, both of which have caused many sleepless nights. The pain is more noticeable during weather changes (doesn't matter if its warm to cold or cold to warm). My legs twitch almost constantly and is very noticeable especially when sleeping, I have been told i have had my legs have spasmed to my chest. I have also had multiple arthroscopic knee surgeries due to a parachuting accident when i was younger.
689327 tn?1240229164 I take Celebrex, Cymbalta, and Lyrica for these conditions...also Baclofen (muscle relaxant) for other spinal injuries. Am fused L-3 to S-1. Last night (early this morning), my husband reminded me that compression hose helps, so I put one on....did help enough to get some sleep. I am now wondering if it might be RLS. Guess I will try a rheumatologist again, and see what they say. It does help to read other tales....maybe I am not really crazy.
1154672 tn?1262222616 I have severe Restless leg Syndrome. I have been on Mirapex for about 6 years now, and never had a problem. I am unemployed now, and do not have any health insurance. My doctor has been great to give me samples, however; they are out of them right now. My doctor tried giving me clonazepam 1 mg 2 nights ago, I walked the floors and tossed and turned all night. I called my doctor, and she said to increase my clonazepam to 2mg before bed.
Avatar f tn Since I already have RLS, will I have to look forward to an increase in the severity of my RLS??? I am very worried. I take Requip (ropinirole) for RLS but it is not a total relief of it. RLS is hell as you dread going to bed, you dread movies, you dread airplanes as you know that your legs will instantly start to ache and you will have the compulsion to constantly move them to relieve the discomfort.
7126533 tn?1388405470 My RLS started over 20 years ago and has been really bad for about 15 years. Ropinirole, once I was put on it in 2007, was a Godsend and just about covers it as long as I don't miss a dose (currently 4 x daily starting at 10am) My consultant has now suggested trying Slow Mag (Slow release magnesium) in hopes that I can reduce the number of Ropinirole I have to take to be able to function normally.
Avatar n tn Leg cramps are a very common symptom of pregnancy I'm 30 weeks with my second boy and I have had them all the way through both pregnancys

Avatar m tn Naturally, I have been told that it is probably all in my imagination (NOT!!). I am on low doese of ropinirole for restless leg syndrome and lorazepam at bedtime to help me cope with the claustrophobia of a CPAP mask, and no other regular medication. I am 64 and female and overweight.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding.Yes I take alot of meds.I've been on the meds for years so I don't think its from that but although my Rheumy did take me off of Methotrexate .I'm not sure if that would cause all the pain or not. Here's my meds: Hydroxychloriquine 200mgs x 2 Nabumetone 750mgs x2 Folic acid 1mgs Amlidipine 5mgs Prednisone 7mgs.

Avatar f tn FYI I just read about tonic water remembering it had quinine for leg cramps ,and stumbled onto this interesting fact. It can actually lower platelets. I def need to stay away from that .many others here might also have platelets issues . Better safe than sorry☺️Thanks for the info .
1123420 tn?1350561158 I swear i have one-three a night now for that last couple weeks, and now my lower leg in the back hurts really bad, like out of the blue. I just took a warm bath, and now i have slight cramping.
8924846 tn?1410572901 I also had a lot of leg cramps at work where I stood and walked around for 8 hours + daily my doctor suggested a change of shoes from my kitchen shoes to actual running shoes with support inserts, she also gave me a note for a stool but because it would cause a hazardous work environment I got my hours cut 100% I'm still technically employed but I haven't worked in 3 months
