Muscle cramps are related to the duration of cirrhosis and the severity of liver damage.The exact reason for leg cramps is unknown. More study must be done in this area before we have a real solution for at least most sufferers. It's cause is probably multiple factors. So there is no one effective treatment for cramps. One solution may work for one person but not another.

it felt like i rana 100k marathon and couldnt handle moving a second longer, but yet i couldnt stop moving and kicking it was horrendous, i would try taking a higher dose of a benzo(like the valium) cuz that helps a ton with the leg cramps, spasms, kicks,and so on..yes requip could help or lyrica, but you would need to get that from a doctor and that would be harder if you already have everything from the thomas rrecipe, the valium if def.
The leg part sucks! I used over the counter drug called quinine leg cramps with club soda or water. I was so desperate I asked the pharmacists, I told him the truth and he says he swears it works good. It did, might as well try it. Any drug store has at least two-three brands at about $3-7. Hang in there! I have been in your shoes.

hallucinations is reported but in people with parkinson’s taking requip, rarely in people taking it for restless leg syndrome like your dad and more commonly in elderly taking requip in combination with levodopa. so, your dad needs to be examined for Parkinson’s disease since he is having hallucination with this drug. He may need to be administered therapy for parkinson’s disease, levo dopa, carbidopa etc. Requip will need revision or withdrawal. Hope this helps. Take care.
ve been getting these lower leg foot and toe cramps while I sleep. Sometimes I can do an opposite stretch while still in bed and that will make the cramp go away and other times I have to get up and walk around the bedroom. The toe cramps are the worst. My big toe will spread away from the other toes and then go back toward my shins and I have to use my hand to push it back to position. I'll cramp in my shins, around my ankles, calves.
I HAVE RLS FOR MANY YEARS AND I AM ON 3MG REQUIP AND 1 MG KLONPIN, THAT HAS BEEN HELPING UP TO NOW. I DISCOVERED THAT MY THYROID IS VERY LOW. COULD THAT BE WHY MY RLS IS GETTING WORSE. I REALLY NEED SOME SLEEP!!! WHAT OTHER MEDS ARE HELPFUL. I REALLY HAVE ALOT OF PAIN IN MY LEGS ALSO. THANKS FOR AMY HELP.
I take requip for RLS. I take .5 mg 1hr before bedtime. This med works on the dopamine receptors. These same receptors are effected when you use narcotics. Another homeopathic med I found is called "Leg Cramps" and its made by Hylands Homeopathic Labs. You take 3-4 tabs (sublingually) every couple of hrs as needed. I know a lot of people think that" if its OTC it cant be very effective"., But this stuff has quinine in it and i really helps me.
I have taken 3 baths, laid in the floor with an electric blanket and heating pad wrapped around my leg. I just took my 2nd Requip pill for the night. Slathered my leg with the cream I bought.
What usually works is not. If this would go away I would fall asleep like that. Right now I am holding my leg straight up in the air. I am so tired.
Just whining. This is killing me. Plus I am sneezing tons and really gassy. Stomach is fine.
I also get twitching in my legs, most of the time when I try to lie down at night, I have L2/3, L3/4 abd L4/5 herniated among other things. My doctor is treated me for restless leg syndrome with Klonipin and Requip. You should go in to your doctor they will be able to tell you exactly what's causing the problem and perhaps give you meds to control it. Good Luck and Feel Better.
There is no forum for this, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), so I figured this was probably the best place to post this question. I have had RLS for about 2 years, and it has gotten progressively worse. I take 1mg of Requip in the morning, and NOW (I just started) I take 1 mg. in the afternoon, and 2mg. at night.

Thanks for writing in. Restless leg syndrome is a common cause of painful legs. Restless leg syndrome also features worsening of symptoms during the early evening or later at night. The characteristic nighttime worsening of symptoms in persons with restless legs syndrome frequency leads to insomnia.
The cause of restless leg syndrome is unknown in most patients.
I am not in the medical field, these suggestion are only from my personal experience. They are magnesium supplements, leg elevation, a sugarless diet, use of an inversion table and COLD WATER, COLD WATER, COLD WATER! Many times I hang my legs in the pool on cool nights or I fill the tub with cold water and sit in it. This calms me enough that I usually can fall asleep. Also, I notice, in my case, ibuprofen makes it worse. Today my primary gave me my first prescription for requip.
