Avatar m tn i got these pills recently called Maxalt not sure how they work I woke up with a migrane couple days ago . took one and eventually fell back asleep woke up and was fine..so these pills seem to help when the pain gets bad.thanks for your help DrNoopurMD i love this site.
655875 tn?1295695107 My question is, are these rebound headaches from the Maxalt? I use the Maxalt no more then once to twice a week. This could also be sinus headaches too, I'm not 100% sure as I feel pressure in my head also. Is it okay to take the Maxalt 1-2 times a week? I also have a spinal cord nerve injury and I do take the long acting oxycontin every 8 hours for the pain.
Avatar f tn Maxalt contains the active ingredient rizatriptan which is indicated to relieve migraine attacks. Possible side effects of this medication include dizziness, sleepiness. feeling weak or fatigued, pins and needles or tingling sensations, flushing, palpitations and even headache. I agree with you that finding the right medicine may take a while and benefits usually outweigh the risks. Take care and do keep us posted with the MRI results. Best regards.
655875 tn?1295695107 The drug of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt), naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova) and eletriptan (Relpax). Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle. Other alternatives include stress management strategies, such as exercise, relaxation, and biofeedback may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.
Avatar f tn Side effects of Maxalt is pressure in your chest & throat. I did ok the times I've only needed it once. But, today I had to take it twice. After that second dose...omg, the pressure is HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I honestly think it is worse than a migraine. There are no words to describe it. You can't breathe & you can barely swallow just your saliva! I'm wondering if it is side effects that get better the more you take it? And if it does...
Avatar f tn It has been the only antidepressant that I have found to be successful without side effects. I also take lithium (it helps with the migraines), and that is sort of an antidepressant but not really. As for triptans, my regular triptan is Zomig Nasal Spray. On average, I use Zomig Nasal Spray every other day. But, there are times where I will go 3 or 4 days without needing to use it. And there are also times where I will use it every day for sometimes up to a week.
Avatar f tn I found Maxalt a great medication to take which worked really well for my migraines. It is the new generation rizatriptan and the side effects with me anyway were minimal in comparasion with other tablets like cafergot, migral and zomig. With zomig it used to give me a terrible sensation of my head been squeezed in a vice and with time it just got worse. I believe all medication messes with your liver and kidneys - the secret is to find one that works for you and has minimal side effects.
Avatar m tn blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue. Sadly, the police & EMT's didn't have just cause to bring her to the hospital. I'm at my wits end. Thanks for any help.
Avatar m tn All the mold gets churned up and I suffer for a few days until the humidity drops. The doctors were baffled , but prescribed Maxalt , which is a rizatriptan and it works decently to abort the pain before it gets serious. My front yard is waterfront and my home has a mold issue , yet my attacks start only after it rains. I am convinced beyond doubt that this is the culprit. You might consider a dehumidifier in your home.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Hi MsConfusedone, You mention that you have been on almost everything, can you be more specific? It would help knowing exactly what you have tried so that I could suggest medications that you have not tried. Also, how many migraines do you get per month? Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans.
655875 tn?1295695107 I have no side effects with the Maxalt. When I take the Maxalt, it will stop the migraine an instant about an hour after taking the medicine. The maxalt has been a miracle drug for my headaches and I normally only have to take one in a day. This is one of the very few medicines that my body will tolerate without any problems. The Maxalt must still be working because I'm still very sick to my stomach. I bet I'd still have the migraine if I didn't take the medicine.
Avatar f tn I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans... I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!
Avatar n tn If your Doctor is aware of the potential side effects of Tramadol and Maxalt and you are being closely monitored, then I apologize for alarming you. If not, you definitely need to talk to him/her about it. Should you decide to discontinue one of these drugs before speaking with your Doctor, the Maxalt would be the one. Don't stop taking the Tramadol. It has to be tapered down.
Avatar f tn that is usually what your PCP does for you. You also need to check closely the side effects for all your medications. If you must, make a chart listing each med across the top and list all the side effects of ea under the relate med. Then compare them. Doctor's are human first and then doctors and they "practice" medicine... You need to participate more in your health care.
621290 tn?1226720261 The medicines in your profile have a relatively low risk of serious side-effects when used under the normal supervision of your doctor. No interactions have been identified between your drugs and conditions.
Avatar f tn Almotriptan (axert), Rizatriptan (maxalt), Zolmitriptan (zomig nasal spray... don't bother with the tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in the tablet form), Sumatriptan (sumatriptan injection or treximet tablet... don't bother with imitrex tablets, the body can't absorb the chemical in tablet form). If you are having cluster headaches, then you should be taking sumatriptan injections and also be using oxygen therapy.
Avatar f tn Hey please give me some advice if you can. I have a road test schedule for Monday. but the thing is i had did a driving class today the thing was i had an anxiety attact but i was able to hide it from the instructor. The thing is before any test I start to have a real bad migraine which starts to bother me really bad. I have been taking my meds but not at night for the past couple of days so I can prepare for this test. this is my second time taking at.
Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
768044 tn?1294223436 I currently use zomig nasal spray. I give it two thumbs up! In the past I have also used Maxalt (the dissolving kind) and Axert. I like zomig. The taste of the nasal spray isn't great (okay, it's TERRIBLE), but it works better than the tablets (in my personal experience and also this is true in terms of the chemical interaction of the medication in the various forms as they've found via scientific trials...
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed Maxalt - a wafer type tablet that you allow to dissolve on your tongue
Avatar n tn I was reading up on it first and of course it states that it has side effects. Has anyone taken this medication for headaches and is it habit forming? What kind of side effects did you have? Any feed back would be great.
390338 tn?1206462648 I really can't say that the Topamax is helping yet. I have been slowly increasing the dosage. I guess maybe if I stretch the positive a little I was at the point of getting migraines that were lasting at least 3 days sometimes 4 with only a few days break before getting another. Now I have been having a full week in between but some pretty good headaches that others still might consider a migraine. So, he did increase from 100mg to 125mg today. So, I'm not sure yet.
Avatar f tn So I would definelty look into all the medicines he is taking and look at all the side effects and the precautions about what medicines he should not take together...I bet you will discover he is taking a lot of different medicines at the same time that is very dangerous.
Avatar f tn Once again im going to not eat those things for a month and see what happens. I read online about the side effects of MAXALT and I am kinda worried about even trying it if I was to buy it. Anyone have any suggestions of weather to try it or not about MAXALT? She also suggested rather than taking birth control pills, she can give me the needle. Im really not thinking about that. If worse comes to worse I will try going off Yasmin and see what happens.
Avatar m tn Its often trial-and-error with our meds until we find one that works best. Symptom control is great, as long as the side effects dont create a new problem. Hope you feel better tomorrow.
