Maxalt and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Maxalt and side effects

maxalt

Avatar f tn Like most people who experience side-effects with Imitrex, I get a rash, a racing heart beat and a feeling of heaviness in my chest (like asthma). The side-effects seem like nothing to me though, because they go away quickly (usually in half an hour, sometimes it takes a few hours) and they are nothing compared to the migraines. I also often use Naproxen in combination with either of my triptans.
Avatar f tn Side effects of Maxalt is pressure in your chest & throat. I did ok the times I've only needed it once. But, today I had to take it twice. After that second dose...omg, the pressure is HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I honestly think it is worse than a migraine. There are no words to describe it. You can't breathe & you can barely swallow just your saliva! I'm wondering if it is side effects that get better the more you take it? And if it does...
Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
Avatar m tn ve been in recovery for ten years, andas long as iIhad someone to hold my hand, support me and my habit and agree when the world was against me, why clean up. Again, great advice and good luck. I know you love them but this is best. At the rate your currently going, you'll love her into the ground, where my brother is. (I know that is harsh but it's the awful truth of addiction. Jails, institutions, and death.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Hi MsConfusedone, You mention that you have been on almost everything, can you be more specific? It would help knowing exactly what you have tried so that I could suggest medications that you have not tried. Also, how many migraines do you get per month? Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans.
655875 tn?1295695107 What a great friend!!! I think unless you've ever had a migraine, you just can't even imagine what it's like. People think it's a bad headache. As a kid, I remember my mom getting them and she'd have to stay in a dark room with ice packs and we'd all have to be so quiet. She'd vomit and usually that's when she'd start to turn around. I started getting them around 17 and they lasted until my first baby at 30.
Avatar n tn If your Doctor is aware of the potential side effects of Tramadol and Maxalt and you are being closely monitored, then I apologize for alarming you. If not, you definitely need to talk to him/her about it. Should you decide to discontinue one of these drugs before speaking with your Doctor, the Maxalt would be the one. Don't stop taking the Tramadol. It has to be tapered down.
621290 tn?1226720261 The medicines in your profile have a relatively low risk of serious side-effects when used under the normal supervision of your doctor. No interactions have been identified between your drugs and conditions.
Avatar f tn Maxalt rocks. I love it and carry it everywhere with me. www.maxalt.com Another new med www.relpax.com (I have some, just not had a headache lately to use them) because I take my magnesium :0-). Here is a good site with migraine info. http://www.achenet.org/ And you need to get your migraine "bible" I got mine off of half.com cheap. This book helped me a lot in understanding my headaches and lots of good info.
Avatar n tn The doctor prescribed Maxalt - a wafer type tablet that you allow to dissolve on your tongue
1577473 tn?1296177286 Hello, I am a 21 year old college student and I have had the occasional migraine all my life. In September I started getting migraines more frequently. I had a really nasty one that forced me to go to a walk in clinic for some immediate care. I got a shot of Torridol that didn't work and a prescription for 100 mg Imitrex. The Imitrex didn't even touch the migraine and I wasn't happy with the side effects.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar n tn ve been getting the headaches/migraines about once every two weeks. I take maxalt and fiorinal and the maxalt works much better. The fiorinal does not make a huge difference, so I rarely take it.
Avatar f tn Also, my symtoms don't exactly match the standard either, but after going to a Headache clinic I was confirmed as having migraines-the pain is on either the left or right front of my forehead never goes beyond the ears and can be a real pain unless I catch them at the beginning, if wake up with "full blown" it becomes a race btw the Maxalt and the migraine, I have had anywhere from 15-18 per month, also have to use strong coffee and ice pack or it's just a waste of the Maxalt a
390338 tn?1206462648 m curious why your dr. gave you Frova? Usually the triptans, like Imitrex and Maxalt are very effective and have fewer side effects..

Avatar f tn So I would definelty look into all the medicines he is taking and look at all the side effects and the precautions about what medicines he should not take together...I bet you will discover he is taking a lot of different medicines at the same time that is very dangerous.
Avatar f tn Once again im going to not eat those things for a month and see what happens. I read online about the side effects of MAXALT and I am kinda worried about even trying it if I was to buy it. Anyone have any suggestions of weather to try it or not about MAXALT? She also suggested rather than taking birth control pills, she can give me the needle. Im really not thinking about that. If worse comes to worse I will try going off Yasmin and see what happens.
Avatar m tn I went to visit my GP and she recommended that I try and lower my dosage to 2 x 3 times a day and then eventually down to 1 x 3 times a day (on account of the fact that the tablets seemed to be giving me bad nightmares). I have just started taking 1 x 3 times a day and I've noticed that my headaches have started to come back. I have had a pain in my head behind my left eye for the last week which eventually turned into a migraine headache last night.

549637 tn?1316705828 ve been taking Topomax for several years for migraines, I take 200mg a day and yes, it can have the side effects you describe! Your doc needs to listen to you!!! Docs don't know it all despite what they think. Only you know how you are feeling. If you have the ability, find another doc. What do you take for a migraine outburst? I take Maxalt. I too am pretty much " med resistant" when it comes to ADs. Don't let a doc tell you that that is impossible. It's not.
Avatar f tn Both times with the aura, bright spot in my vision for approx 20-30 minutes, tingling/numbness in finger tips and hands, slurred speech, nausea, then headache comes within an hour and I feel wiped out the rest of the day and the next day. My family and friends of course panicked and pressed me to see a doctor. The doctor didn't seem overly concerned and described it as the migraine w/aura, prescribed a medication to try the next time, and scheduled an MRI.
Avatar f tn Hi and thank you for your response. Did you have bad side effects while taking them and what do you mean it is the best. What are they suppose to do? I really want to feel better and I believe God has given wisdom to man to help us but the stigma of ad's just scare me along with the side effects. Thank you.
591470 tn?1218975186 When I was taking a course of chemo I had the worst migraines ever and the Imitrex really helped me. It gave me slight light headedness but well worth the side effects. It is by prescription. If you haven't tried it.....give it is shot. It might help.
