1742269 tn?1315381633 Thank you all for your input. it was helpful. but has anyone who have taken it ever get headaches? especially when you take it at night and wake up in the morning.
1260240 tn?1336077448 The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?
Avatar m tn s like adel_ezz said, a lot of antipsychotics can cause this and a lot of them are activating so psychiatrists advise you to take them after you wake up. I think I had this happen with Geodon where at first it sedated me like crazy and made it hard to move sometimes but then the last few weeks I was on it I was suffering from insomnia where I couldn't fall asleep and it also made me tired where I couldn't function at all from missing the sleep and this caused problems at work.
Avatar n tn I am writing for answers for my 15 Year old son with Autism. He has been on Risperdal for about 5 years now and was taking 4mg x 2 daily, HIGH, I KNOW. He is 5'10" 165 lbs. For about the past 6 months he has started with some new behaviors. I relayed these to his Psychiatrist and she has had no comment on them. I researched them myself and found they mimic Tardive dyskinesia in many ways. I have found a new Psychiatrist but can not get in to see her for approx 2 more weeks.
Avatar m tn the problem is that BP pts develop anxiety often, so unless you have anxiety, then you will be ok and will sleep well after the risperidone gets out of your body completely which is abt 3 weeks at most, since the half life is very short, matter of hours
574118 tn?1305135284 there are other sites which mention the maximum dose of both. max for risperidone is 9 while for seroquel is 900. also based on DDD it's 80. when you say equivalence it isn't the drug content but the potency as far the need for the drug. seroquel brochure says 900 don't exceed it while risperidone 9. you see it's a homework i did i am not a pdoc to judge my conclusion but i tried to work out the ratio.
1985196 tn?1402190098 I read your other post and saw that you were staying on 400 mg. I was hoping they weren't taking you completely off of it because for me life looks differently when I am on Seroquel than when I am off. Also the Lithium does take a little while to work but it is a medicine that is prescribed to a lot of us. I tried it for a while but switched back to Lamictal because it worked better for me.
1649932 tn?1348082640 Also, this medication is recommended to be initially dosed at 1mg bid (TWICE A DAY) with incremental increases of 1mg bid on days 2 and 3 to a dose of 3 mg bid on day 3. (This would be a total of 6mg per day) If you have been on risperidone for three weeks and you're still on the starting dose, you need to ask your doctor why he is keeping you at the level. Risperidone is normally perscribed for irritability associated with autism, bipolar disorder, mania and schizophrenia.
2216810 tn?1420856876 Any medication that changes the chemical constitution of your brain can make things worse before they get better. I think you should give it more time to work. I am familiar with risperidone. I didn't care for it myself, as it made me feel like I was on a morphine high all day. Stay with what your doc says, and let him know how you are feeling now. If you continue to feel like it's just not working, there are other meds that can be tried.
Avatar n tn Hi. Wow, do you have a lot on your plate, and kudos to you for being so involved and on top of your son's care. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. To answer your question, yes, it is possible, and it is explicitly possible with Risperdal. From the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/SAFETY/2004/risperdal.htm There is an increased risk. Please get the glucose tolerance tests and blood glucose tests done as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn This is something that you should ask your Doctor about ,here is a link may be helpful, there is much on line regarding this www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug.../DSECTION=side-effects my opinion is it could be side effects of stopping the med .
Avatar m tn I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?
Avatar m tn She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.
1649932 tn?1348082640 ive been on risperidone for i month now in im feeling sad today i hope i get better in i was just wondering if your on risperidone in do you have up in down days cause thats how i feel one minute im ok the next im depressed.
Avatar f tn i wasnt sure where to post this message, my brother died with a inquest of open verdict he was 37 he was taking risperidone for 3 yrs and diphenhydramine, he had high blood pressure although an ECG has never been done, he was over weight, tinnitus and was diagnosed with delusional disorder and schizophrenia. because he was'nt found until the 7th day of death post mortem was difficult no blood samples could be taken and eyes and brain had liquified..
Avatar m tn 5 years ago, I had psychosis, so I was prescribed the antipsychotic risperidone. I have been taking 2mg of risperidone a day since then, and I developed hyperprolactinemia as a side effect (high level of the hormone prolactin), so I have not had a period for 1.5 years. A month ago I saw a pulmonologist who told me that based on my PFT results which were all normal asthma or other respiratory inhalers won't help me.
Avatar f tn Hi I agree with what the doctor has said, go back to your daughter's doctor. our daughter sounds exactly like my son Glen as he was growing up. I'm sorry to say things didn't get any better they only got worse hence why I had to sadly place him in a care home because of severe aggression as he got older and stronger. I wouldn't want this to happen to you, so hopefuly going back to your doctor and explaining what's going on will help.
Avatar f tn s whether you need an MS or not and the 25mg of seroquel does it for you at least. If you are not bipolar then I totally agree with you, but if yu are one then it's a different issue altogether. If you are BP then you shall need an MS whether an AP like seroquel or an AC like lamictal say etc...
561706 tn?1333947274 This is a peculiar side effect of these anti psychotics I have observed only in myself and that is why I was more desperate than my Pdoc to get off Risperidone as I realised that it was the Risperidone which was doing this..
Avatar f tn My daughter just started taking risperidone 2 days ago and is experiencing the trouble swallowing side effect and not opening her mouth very wide when she talks and having trouble speaking. Is this normal? Will it wear off? Its really scaring me.
