574118 tn?1305135284 depression 300 mg mania or schizophrenia 800 mg My question would be is whether the potency chart you linked to is only for psychotic/delusional symptoms or also for depression, as some are also used for depression, Seroquel and Ability, for example. May I ask the reason you take the Seroquel? Also, who here takes the Seroquel specifically for depression and what there dose is?
Avatar m tn My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.
1260240 tn?1336077448 Prozac is a medication commonly used to treat anxiety whereas risperidone is an antipsychotic that is used to treat irritability and behavior problems in individuals with autism-spectrum disorders. The best that I can tell you is that the medication may help. The most important thing is to make sure that you have a psychiatrist that you work well with and who is responsive to your needs.
Avatar f tn She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!
Avatar m tn Hi I had been on Risperidone 1 mg for a year. I left it, and went cold turkey. Now the only problem I am facing right now is Insomnia. Can anybody tell me, how long this can go like this.
Avatar m tn s case maybe because of severity his Pdoc may decide to keep him for a longer time on the med but this med has to be tapered very slowly when it is being withdrawn. In my case it was used at 3 mg for 6 weeks and it took around ten weeks to taper it down.Hope this helps Your husband needs all your support now.
Avatar m tn I am not an expert to answer this question. As for the risperidone, I am taking 1mg for 9 years now. I once stopped it cold turkey without any problem. It's well known that it causes extra pyramidal effect that is one of the side effects of risperidone, but about tardive dyskinia if you meant by TD, I think antipsychotics at this dose have to be taken for a long time.

Avatar f tn [7] Like other atypical antipsychotics, risperidone has also been used off-label for the treatment of anxiety disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, severe, treatment-resistant depression with or without psychotic features, Tourette syndrome, disruptive behavior disorders in children." Wikipedia And I am surprised that a 4 year old is being medicated - but I don't know what the symptoms are. What kind of a doctor are you seeing?
Avatar n tn I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.
Avatar f tn She was on risperidone for many years but stopped abruptly for weight gain?? Hm. Well if that class of antipsychotic medication worked to control her symptoms, there are others in the class. I'd try that. And weight gain---- well, in the area of managing a difficult patient's symptoms, most physicians look at benefits verses cons. If the benefits are greater often a medication is continued even if it has an unwanted side effect.
Avatar f tn we have been experimenting with his meds particularly the risperidone, he was off it for about 3 months and now we are in the process of reintroducing it. he takes 1/2 mg at about 3.30 each afternoon. tomorrow we all go to see his psychiatrist and his meds will be reviewed again. we anticipate they will go up to 1 mg. it is important to get the dosage of both his ADHD drugs working in balance with each other.
Avatar m tn Someone told me that for tapering you got to take 0.5mg for a few days and 0.25 mg for a few days before stopping Risperidone totally which I intend to do as even my Pdoc thinks I can be maintained only on Tegretol.Only problem he is out of town till 25th and he wanted a very slow tapering which I did not agree to.
Avatar n tn my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?
1649932 tn?1348082640 Hi ive been taking risperidone for 3 weeks now for social anxiety it seems to be working a little but in extreamly nervous now sence i been taking it is the medecine suppose to make me nervous im on 1 mg are u going through this please let me know.
1742269 tn?1315381633 Risperidone is generic for Risperidal and I think it's a pretty good option for depression & psychosis. Not so much for anxiety though. It should give you a boost or make you feel energized rather than lethargic due to the increased norepinephrine plasma levels. This does not make you gain weight either. See how it goes and maybe you will be able to eliminate your antidepressant or at least decrease it.
Avatar m tn She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.
1625195 tn?1332178662 BUT this third one I take at night is Risperidone which is the substitute of Risperdal. Can someone PLEASE tell me what Risperdal/Risperidone is for? My doctors were sort of unclear about it and since I was more concerned with getting out of the mental hospital I was in, I forgot to ask them to repeat themselves. Next question, once again, about the Risperidone. Is there any way possible to cut the hunger side-effects? Or any tips to battle the nausea that it causes?
Avatar n tn t know what the dosage was, or what else it may have been combined with. The antidote for Risperidone-induced EPS is an anticholinergic. While Benadryl can be used in a pinch, the more common (more potent) agents are Cogentin (Benztropine) and Artane (Trihexyphenidyl). Those are both anti-Parkinson agents that are used to reverse EPS. The half-life of Risperidone is 20 hours. So approximately 1/2 of the administered dosage would be eliminated in a day.
Avatar n tn Risperidone is a so-called "blacklisted" drug and is entirely inappropriate for administration to an elderly patient with Alzheimers. Three years ago Johns Hopkins geriatric unit conducted a seminar at Mount Sinai discouraging it's use in the elderly.
Avatar m tn I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?
Avatar n tn Fast forward again, I was switched back on Lexapro 10mg with Risperidone 2mg. For a while it worked okay, then I had a psychosis when I did another mistake and went off the meds for 4 days. And since then, coming back to the meds didn't work as good as before, the vomiting started appearing again, I started developing a fear of psychosis which made me think I had micro-psychosis almost daily...
