She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep). She has only been on the serequel 2 days and it is not helping. The risperidone was stopped immediately because of weight gain. I need some suggestions on what we can do. HELP!
First, I can find no indication that risperdal is indicated for ADHD. " In 2006, the FDA approved risperidone for the treatment of irritability in children and adolescents with autism.[6] The FDA's decision was based in part on a study of autistic people with severe and enduring problems of violent meltdowns, aggression, and self-injury; risperidone is not recommended for autistic people with mild aggression and explosive behavior without an enduring pattern.

he is 28 months and he has languagedelay development, after i saw a doctor he said that he has ADHD he saw him for 3, he recommended to us the speech therapy daily, after we started the speech therapy , he said that he should start to be under medication (Risperdal) my question is : is it that common to put a child that young under medication, or to diagnose him as ADHD , i am living in medial east.
She was on risperidone for many years but stopped abruptly for weight gain?? Hm. Well if that class of antipsychotic medication worked to control her symptoms, there are others in the class. I'd try that. And weight gain---- well, in the area of managing a difficult patient's symptoms, most physicians look at benefits verses cons. If the benefits are greater often a medication is continued even if it has an unwanted side effect.
I then got hospitalised for aggression. I was on the drug Risperidone(Risperdal) for two months and also on Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injections. And I developed social anxiety, poor attention and zero social skills.
After getting off the clinic, I self medicated to Risperidone(Risperdal), Clonazepam (Rivotril) and Mirtazapine (Remeron) at recommended dosage (And Zuclopentixol (Clopixol) injection) and feel good, and developed social skills, and social anxiety is less.
I go through spurts of binge eating in that I will eat oranges, like 5 a day for 6-9 months, then not pick one up for a year or more. I am currently on eggs, avocado's and red bell peppers in a tortilla. In fact, anything in a tortilla works for me... beans and rice, rice and cheese, beans rice and cheese, you get the idea.
I'm staying away from other dairy as I've got IBS and it just doesn't agree with me. My downfall at this time of year is candy...
Which would make one think that possibly he does not have ADHD (maybe SPD which gets confused for ADHD a lot and is not treated with meds?) Unless, of course, he was over medicated and in a zombie, trance like state. So it really is important to know exactly what is going on.

I have finaly broken down and went to the doctor for my mental state. It started off that he said i had adhd so he put me on adderall wich help with my energy leval and it keeps me on task at work. Now after the first moth i started to get paranoid that my wife was cheating on me and thought every time she would go out with her friends she was out doing other things.
Since then we found out that Risperidone is know for side effects such as tardive dyskinesia. We are seriously concerned now. Will this be permanent ? What is the best way to examine this problem ?

It looks like you are going to somehow try and find a psychiatrist that specializes in adult ADHD. The point is that you are not being treated for ADD, but for anxiety which the ADD could be causing (very common). The problem is - as "Crazy meds" points out - Paxil is difficult to stop. So you will definitely need someone who can help you in slowly cutting down. Heck, I have said this all before.
My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.
That's great! I have heard really excellent things about lamectil (brand name for drug you started). This sounds like the right fit for you!! It's amazing when we start to resurface from a mental health spiral. Seeing light again is a beautiful thing. Do you also do therapy?
Someone told me that for tapering you got to take 0.5mg for a few days and 0.25 mg for a few days before stopping Risperidone totally which I intend to do as even my Pdoc thinks I can be maintained only on Tegretol.Only problem he is out of town till 25th and he wanted a very slow tapering which I did not agree to.
my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?
