My daughter is mentally retarded, has autism, ADHD, and more recently has been diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive disorder. She is 10 and her level of MR is severe so she is unable to tell me how she feels. She has always been aggressive towards herself and others. She has been on risperidone for many years. Recently we have tried other drugs and her symptoms of aggression have increased. She is currently on Strattera, serequel, and hydroxizine (to help her sleep).
I am writing for answers for my 15 Year old son with Autism. He has been on Risperdal for about 5 years now and was taking 4mg x 2 daily, HIGH, I KNOW. He is 5'10" 165 lbs. For about the past 6 months he has started with some new behaviors. I relayed these to his Psychiatrist and she has had no comment on them. I researched them myself and found they mimic Tardive dyskinesia in many ways. I have found a new Psychiatrist but can not get in to see her for approx 2 more weeks.

My four year old grandchild/fosterchild has been to the doctor and now take meds for ADHD. Frist was riddelen that did not work at all. New medication is Risperidone. No change has been noticed. This child before meds was pooping and peeing on her bedroom floor and even after meds. Im at my end and dont understand this kind of behavior.
My som is 3 yrs old diagnosed with autism , The doctors have performed all the biological test on him that were found to be negative in his case , and recently they had his MRI with brain protocol and they found every thing to be normal
including grey white matter of the brain , no damage , 4th venticular nerve is normal , no abnormal migration on nurons
and noraml pathways .
I have a 5 yr old with Autism. His primary care physician has him on Risperidone but I don't think its helping him. He has alot of outburts daily and he doesn't talk. I want to know if there is any other medication out there to help my son. I was told that he might need Retlin. Please help.
I have an 8 year old child with autism. He has been taking respirdone for the past year for aggressive self-injurious behavior. He has been diagnosed by a pedatric neurologist as having complex partial seizures with a recommendation starting on lamictal for the seizures. Is this combination of drugs safe? I have read about the serious side effects of lamictal and about possible drug interactions between lamictalan resirdone.
My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.
My grandson is 9 and has ADHD and Autism. He takes Depakot 1000mg daily and Risperadon 2mg daily. I have noticed an increase in his aggression within the last two weeks. Do these two meds have a tendency to increase aggress?
my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?
How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.
I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some,thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.
She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.
I am in full blown withdrawal symptoms from stopping risperidone with anxiety and my psychiatrist is back 5 days later.I had to stop because of side effects at 1 mg.What should I do?
I have a four year old son who has been diagnosed with adhd and autistic disorder. He is currently on two different types of medicines to help with his adhd; metadate, and risperidone. He has a problem with communicating his wants and his needs. He also throws constant fits/tantrums about everything, especially when he doesn't get his way. One example is he may want to stay at the grocery store longer or wonder off outside with out an adult present.
Hi there. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic drug with certain side effects. These are sedation, dysphoria, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, muscle stiffness, muscle pain, constipation, photosensitivity and alopecia. The fall could also lead to local tissue spasm and tightness in the surrounding muscles. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedician to rule out this as an effect of injury ad also check for an missed fractures.
My daughter just started taking risperidone 2 days ago and is experiencing the trouble swallowing side effect and not opening her mouth very wide when she talks and having trouble speaking. Is this normal? Will it wear off? Its really scaring me.
My son has autism and he has recently been diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder. His behavior in school is absolutely horrible, and the teacher brought it to my attention that he acts out even worse when there a large number of students in the class. That on top of other ackward behaviors led the Pediatrician to think he had anxiety issues as well as Autism. He was prescribed Zoloft 10mg once daily and he was only on it a week and his behavior was totally worse.
I am in full blown withdrawal from risperidone and my psychiatrist is out of town.I got side effects(involuntary movements) so had to quit.My doc will be back 4 days from now.Any suggestions.
My Pdoc had suggested an extremely slow tapering of risperidone over 10-12 weeks but I tapered it over 6 weeks and only had minimal withdrawl symptoms.I am yet to go and see him.I am stable on tegretol 1000 mg with no side effects.Hope it stays good.
