Avatar n tn Don't take calcium supplements even tums too close to the time of taking your prenatals. Calcium slows the absorption of iron.

Avatar n tn I only drink almond milk as well. I use the original unsweetened, it has 433mg calcium per cup.

Avatar f tn I'm 16 weeks and everyone keeps telling me I HAVE to drink milk for calcium for my babies bones to get stronger, but I hate milk is there something else I can eat or drink for calcium?
Avatar f tn You should be taking a prenatal vitamin. Pasteurized cows milk actually has little calcium and it's difficult for our bodies to absorb. It's good to drink, but a prenatal vitamin is much more effective.
359987 tn?1207673804 Do not take anything without the recommendation and consent of your surgeon. Too little calcium in not good, but neither is too much calcium. I've had experience with both. Let the surgeon decide.
Avatar n tn I have been having elevated calcium lately, I just noticed on my bottle of Peri-colace that each tablet contains 20mg of calcium and I usually take four a day so would 60mg a day of calcium cause high blood calcium levels? Is 60mg alot of calcium to take?
Avatar f tn I finished TX a little over a year ago. I was only on it for 14 weeks. When I stopped I felt rapid improvement for a month or so then felt fantastic for a few weeks. After that it has been all downhill, much worse than I was before TX. Needless to say I didn't clear after that short time (GT1). Looking at my numbers, my specialist thought that I would almost certainly relapse.
Avatar f tn Really worried since my blood calcium level was high last year 10.7 and this year 10.6 dr. Wants me to see a kidney specialist since my parathyroid levels were normal....please tell me this isn't serious and that there can be a simple reason? Any ideas? Anybody experience this?
Avatar f tn Do not wait and watch - the other health issues caused by long term high calcium are serious. Apologies if this comes across strongly, but high calcium and parathyroid disease are 2 more subjects that most doctors (including most endocrinologists) really don't know much about, and they should. I've met Dr. Norman and he has his quirks but he truly knows his stuff. My LLMD noted it was not a usual side effect of Lyme (why he pointed it out to me).
Avatar f tn No you dont have to drink milk but you can get calcium in eating food that have calcium in it but yes you do have to take calcium for babys bone to develope strong but not necessarily drink milk. Its wierd tho my first pregnacy i had a boy and i disliked milk and this pregnacy is a girl and im drinking milk like if its my best drink ever.
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor, however, I understand that hyperparathyroidism can result in calcium being removed from the bones. This will in turn elevate your blood calcium levels. Most people have four parathyroid glands. They are very tiny and located in the throat where the thyroid gland is located. Hyperparathyroidism can be caused by one of the parathyroid glands developing a tumor.
Avatar f tn I was given calcium pills without having asked to be given them....i was concerned i was taking way too much vitamins compared to my last pregnancy. I even posted about it on this forum...i called my doctor not even 5min ago and he told me that it was normal to have been given this vitamin (calcium pills) .my pregnancy is as normal as can be. Then again all doctores are diffrent.

451191 tn?1264432890 Hey there. I've been having the calcium tingles for the last few days that subside when I take a bunch of calcium/Vitamin D. Question is- how am I supposed to take both Cytomel and Calcium? Literature says not to take within 4 hours of eachother, but I figure I still have natural hormone in my body so getting my Calcium up is probably more important, right?
Avatar n tn My girlfriend had her thyriod removed about a year ago and had all sorts of problems with her calcium and the bodies ability to take up the calcium from the tablets and they had to give her another smaller tablet (says the calcium tablets 8 four times a day where like horse tablets) to help the absorption in the end she was able to bring her tablets down to two 4 times a day with the help of this other tablet. I can ask her for you if you wish.
Avatar n tn s lots of things that can cause elevated blood calcium levels...if the PTH (parathyroid hormone level) and the calcium level are both elevated, it's usually caused by primary hyperparathyroidism...(This is usually caused by a tumor on a parathyroid gland) All the four parathyroid glands do are regulate the blood calcium levels...When the blood calcium is high, the PTH should be low or near normal...
Avatar n tn There may be several reasons for calcium deposits. One possibility is Scleroderma. Ask your doctor about Scleroderma. Which can cause calcium deposits in the skin, lungs and heart. http://www.pcca.net/SclerodermaLungDisease.
Avatar m tn I had severe vitamin D deficiency and severe magnesium deficiency and could not raise my calcium levels. Magnesium is the boss of vitamin D and calcium. Vitamin D is the boss of calcium. Don't mess with the boss! :) Iron deficiency and vitamin D deficiency are the two most common deficiencies world wide affecting billions.
