Avatar m tn The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem. The last thing the orthodontist said to us was we should have a strong foundation to start the straightening process. We are now so confused we do not know which way to proceed. Should the periodontal work be completed prior to the braces or what???????
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn 5 centimeter supra-orbital bone tumor that has been completely stable on scans since 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have had a continuous intractable headache behind my forehead which has not responded to the usual headache therapy regimen. It is believed to be monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the skull. I have found articles to suggest that high-dose bisphosphonate therapy (40 mg/day for 6 months) offers a significant improvement in patients with fibrous dysplasia of the skull.

Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar m tn Hi, I asked a question previously. I have a 3.5 x 2.5 cm supra-orbital bone tumor that is believed to be fribrous dysplasia. I began having an intractable pressure headache behind my forehead which became worse just over 3 years ago, and this is what lead to a brain scan. Since it's discovery in 2005, the tumor has remained completely unchanged. I have the monostotic disease.
Avatar n tn Thank you. Interestingly enough, my gyno referred me to the pharmacist and the pharmacist couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know from the internet- so-- if you would be kind enough to offer your opinion - ..... if the mechanism of action is to decrease osteoclasts (thereby dead bone cells are not removed) - is this helpful to have denser bones made of dead bone tissue?
Avatar n tn 30+ yrs of steroids has thinned my bones significantly, so I was prescribed a bisphosphonate (Alendronate) alongside calcium (Calcichew) and Vitamin D3. My hair is a lot thicker now. You might wish to get tested for Vit.D as I understand that some 50% of the population who do not live in sunny climates, are deficient. Not sure if it affects the hair though. Try googling "hair loss vitamin D" and see what comes up.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!
798555 tn?1292787551 s relaxing and can stop the twitches and cramps. Mg carries the little electrical impulses from one muscle cell to the next and keeps the messages flowing smoothly. Not enough Mg? twitching and cramping, just like athletes get if they overdo and don't supplement. Apparently the Lyme bacteria use up Mg in their reproductive cycle, and it's easy to leave the ailing human without enough Mg to carry the messages (to contract and relax, over and over) from cell to cell in the muscles.
Avatar n tn However, 4 yrs down the line, I stopped it 4 weeks ago, due to severe bone pain (hips, hands and feet) and the pain has gone! I still feel I need protection for at least another year so am seeing a new Oncologist (mine retired last year) soon for evaluation and hope she will prescribe either Femara or Aromasin. All the AI's affect bone density, tamoxifen doesn't and before starting one of these you should have a DEXA bone density scan for a baseline. It is a difficult decision I know.
Avatar n tn I do not know any more than you know re new drugs being developed, and would caution you not to look for help through chemicals, but instead try psychotherapy and try to find out why you are having agoraphobia and derealization experiences..there is a reason.
Avatar f tn As we age the bones can lose density and become weak and fragile. With a weakened bone, any fall could result in a fracture. Fractures most commonly occur in the spine, wrist and hips, other bones such as the arm or pelvis can also be affected. If you and someone you know has osteoporosis, the doctor will normally prescribe calcium and vitamin D to be taken every day. Calcium builds up the bones and Vitamin D helps the body to absorb the calcium.
Avatar f tn Bitter taste in the mouth or saliva can be caused by a variety of issues including gastrointestinal conditions such as acid reflux, gum or dental problems, side effect of medications and even hormonal causes. If it persists, consult your dentist and attending physician for initial evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
1958049 tn?1325094006 Diagnosed with pneumonia a few weeks ago, put on an antibiotic. Cleared the lungs, but the coughing and choking has been extreme. I get to the point where I can't breath in. I am on a nebulizer, 4 x's a day. Gerds and larynx spasm have been mentioned and meds have been given for this. That was on the a week ago. The coughing is not making me weeze as much now, but is still extreme and causing a great deal of pain in my ribs and chest.
Avatar f tn On August 28th, she was admitted to hospital for chest pain. It was determined she had a pulmonary embolism and was started on warfarin and INR. At the same time the hospital ruled out CHF or any cardiac concern through a Pro-??? Test and a CAT with contrast and ecgs. In early November, it was discovered she had hypothyroidism and began thyroxine. This medication worked quickly.
Avatar n tn For my bones I take Calcium+vitamin D, and once weekly Novo Alendronate which is the equivalent of what you are taking now.My surgeon told me that it's very important for me to take Arimidex because it lessens considerably the estrogen that the body produces thus diminishing the chances of recurrence or developing a new tumor.Personally I would prefer not taking any drugs, but since I have very little side effects, I will continue taking this medication for the next 4 years.
Avatar f tn Currently, there are three biphosphonates - alendronate [Fosamax], etidronate [Didronal]) and risedronate [Actonel], that have been approved by the FDA for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. These medications have been shown to increase bone mass, prevent bone loss, and to decrease the incidence of bone fractures. Fosamax and Actonal have the advantage of a once-a-week administration, as opposed to the alternative of daily administration.
712042 tn?1254569209 After 2 ½ years of problems ( mainly shortness of breath on exertion) and after many interventions and tests which were all negative, including two left and right cardiac caths, I was referred to Emory University Hospital interventional cardiology. I underwent another cath as a way of a diagnosis by exclusion. They were pretty confident of the diagnosis they were to confirm.
Avatar m tn Yes it's true - I'm really reaching some kind of edge again. even considered checking out this retreat but the cost was pro-hib-itive. Plus I don't really 100% believe their total philosophy, and I've already dealt with so much of what they talk about. I really do think my problems are bigger than just needing to find a life lesson, and "doing happy" etc. Lastly, I've given in - I'm sick of sleeping my life away so I've started taking....pseudoephidrine...
Avatar m tn I have been on a statin drug for about 15 years and ran for exercise until about 5 years ago and all I can conclude from my history is I have benefited from the statin drug via low cholesterol and not blockages and weight control and general high physical quality of life from the exercise. I'm 11 years younger than you, and I no longer run, but that is because of atrial fibrillation, not because of muscle damage due to anything other than age.
Avatar m tn I did touch her vagina (fingered) and afterwords put on the condom for protected sex. She did also stroke me penis a little and touched the tip and I think she touched her vagina before she did this. I developed burning with urination and red urethra within a day or two. I do recall that my urethra may have been a bit irritaded before i was with her but definarely not due to sexual activity.
