restasis

Avatar m tn I don't know exactly when it started to happen, I am now 31 and I remember I know I've got a weak and dry eye when I was 17 or 18. My right eye is often weak and dry, and a little bit pain, very obviously when it compares to my left eye. I feel so good with my left eye no matter how long I've worked with computer, but my right eye, I often feel it dry and a bit painful. When I was 22 I was required to take a generalk eye check and test in university .
Avatar n tn My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Avatar m tn I'm 35-year-old male in otherwise good health (I did have Lasik 10 years ago with no problems other than some dryness). 9 weeks ago after the birth of my second daughter, I started having some discomfort from dryness in my eyes, and then one day after a panic attack (my wife had complications post delivery and we had to rush her to ER), my vision went blurred and it has not returned to normal since then.
Avatar n tn If you have severe dry eyes and are using artificial tears more than 4 times/day consider going on Restasis. Both my wife and I have are on restasis for severe dry eyes. My wife has the type (lipid deficiency) where her eyes watered all the time and I have aqueous deficiency where I have no tears at all. It takes 6 month to "kick in" but if you are mid-20s and having severe problems it will only get worse as you get older.
Avatar f tn I was hoping that once my eye is feeling better, I could just use artificial tears to keep my eyes from drying so badly. He also changed my contact lenses to Acuvue Oasys. Any advice or info would be great.............................
Avatar m tn Rare anyone to be too sensitive to restasis. My wife and I have been on restasis for many years with fabulous results. restasis works with both forms of dry eyes. Many people have stinging with restasis for several weeks which can be helped by using steroid drops for a couple of weeks. there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly.
484932 tn?1226513291 I have talked about this once before but here I go again, what is with my eyes , they are red and itchy and I have a dry itchy patches around them and if I cry the skin around my eyes crack as if they are alergic to my own tears , it always feel like I have something in my eyes , like sleep, but there is nothing there and they tear up and are driving me crazy, I am almost one month off tx and they feel crazy.
Avatar n tn Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Avatar f tn t cure dry eyes and even when it does help it usually takes many months. Patients with severe dry eye on Restasis still have to use artificial tears several times a day and often have punctum plugs put in as well as oral flax and fish oil supplements. I would make sure there is not co-existing lid margin disease which is common. Make sure you continue to use good artificial tears 4-6 times a day and a lubricant gel or ointment at bedtime.
Avatar m tn THE DOCTOR PLUGGED THE UPPER AND NOW MY EYE IS TOO WET. TEARS ARE CONSTANTLY RUNNING DOWN MY FACE. MY FIRST QUESTION IS ARE THERE HEALTH RISKS TO HAVING TOO MANY TEARS? MY NEXT QUESTIONS IS THERE A PLUG THAT JUST DELAYS DRAINAGE INSTEAD OF TOTALLY OCCLUDING DRAINAGE? THE UPPER PLUG IS A LITTLE IRRITATING AND I JUST WANTED TO KNOW ALSO WOULD CAUTERY BE A GOOD CHOICE? I WAS NOT SURE IF CAUTERY WAS REVERSABLE OR NOT. SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS, I HAVE BEEN BATTLING DRY EYE FOR SOME TIME.
Avatar m tn I use Restasis before plugs. Restasis increases quality of tears and reduces inflammation. Plugs best put in by ophthalmologist Eye MD.
Avatar m tn ve had servere dry eye for 15yrs and also a stye for 15yrs and no one has ever offered me anything. my eyes are so dry that eye drops do not work and my contacts use to dry in my eyes and crying was the only way to get them out and to cry i had to go watch sad stuff.
Avatar f tn I too was diagnosed with dry eye for the same reason a year ago and found my tear ducts were at a 3 out of 10 range for tear production. My eye doc put me on restasis and it has helped tremendously as I am now up to an 8. My insurance company changed my prescription coverage and now I will have to pay $420 a month for my medication. Yea like now I have a choice of either being blinded by tears every night and have itchy red eyes all the time or going broke.
Avatar f tn Taking fish oil capsules and getting punctal plugs as suggested by Dr. Ray above helped me. I have both dry eyes and bleph. It seems to me that my dry eyes have also been helped by my bleph treatment. In addition to using Soothe eyedrops, which are preservative free, I wash my eyelids once or twice a day using the suds from an anti bacterial dial soap bar. This is a tip which I got previously got on medhelp. While it may seem as if it is difficult to do, it is not.
Avatar f tn This worked well and I had no trouble with my eyes during treatment (before starting on Restasis it felt like I had sand in my eyes all of the time.
Avatar n tn Yes because in dry eyes the tears produced by the eye are poor quality or poor quantity or both. Artificial tears are constituted to mimic 'perfect' tears. I don't know enough about MMP9 to discuss.
Avatar f tn A long with my fish oil pills. What are other supplements I can use to improve my dry eyes? I want to avoid prescribed restasis at all cost :) please some advice?
Avatar m tn I'm going to trust my doctor's judgment and work with Restasis for a few months- the challenge is that my vision is not good and I don't want to rely on Restasis as my only solution. I've been taking omega-3s and have pushed the tears pretty heavy (using Optive) in the hope that the cornea will heal as soon as it can. Otherwise, things are gonna be a bit rough for the next little while until this all gets figured out. I go back to see him Monday.
Avatar f tn I have posted this before but both my wife and I have severe dry eyes. after using tears 4-8 times/day we have been on restasis for 7-8 years with great results. There are newer product Xiidra, which I have tried in my practice and i don't like, and Cequa which is more expensive that Restasis and should not be the initial drop. Annogorm: no the heat has not effect on the iris pigments, any more than going outside on a hot day.
Avatar n tn My wife has been on restasis for over 3 years. She did not experience benefit until 6-7 months. Now she is completely assymptomatic from the really bad tears dysfunction she had before. She had the type where her eyes watered all the time and artifical tears helped for only about 30 minutes.
Avatar m tn s syndrome on steroids for long periods. Most of my patients with your problems I treat with Restasis twice daily for the rest of their life. I have said this before but both my wife and I have bad dry eyes and my wife has been on restasis with good results for about 15 years and me for about 10 years. Note it takes 4-6 months for Restasis to kick in and work fully. There are too other drops that are in this family.
Avatar f tn I have not seen this in my Restasis patients. Dr. O.
1819252 tn?1317092002 I purchased the medium to moderate. My eyes were so bad after the first shot I though my lids would damage my lenses or worse. Genteel worked for me. I keep it by the bed and in my purse and use it at least once at night and once in the morning. I also tried an overnight gel, that was a disaster, I could not see right for 24 hours. I have not tried some of the above products but will if the genteel stops working. Good info.
Avatar f tn I've recently posted that I just recently started Restasis, but my question is will the red eyes start getting better as the Restasis starts to work. Does dry eyes cause them to be red.......... I mean they are not horribly red, but are somewhat irritated. Will my eyes be like this always or will they get better eventually. My eye Dr. said they're not too bad, but I know that this is not they way they were before.
Avatar n tn Gels and ointments are normally used at night since regular tears won’t last all night. There is also an over the counter spray for dry eyes called “Tears Again”. Tears may need to be used as often as 6 times/day. If you took Restasis you have used the best prescription medication. A "trial" of Restasis is a minimum of 8 weeks of therapy using one drop in each eye twice/day. Because of the way Restasis works, it takes two months to "start working".
Avatar f tn My eye doctor just Rx'd Lotemax (4 weeks) & Restasis (for life) for my extremely dry eyes. They feel like sand is in them. I am concerned because from what I can understand Restasis works through the auto immune system. I am in week 38 of standard treatment and since week 16 of treatment have had a hypothyroid. Any advice? I also was told this morning to increase Procrit from 20,000 to 40,000 a week because Hgb was only 8.5 on this weeks lab.
