Restasis how it works

Common Questions and Answers about Restasis how it works

restasis

Avatar m tn there is a new medication that works like restasis called Xidra it is supposed to kick in faster (3-4 months) than restasis (4-6 months) but has not been shown to be better than restasis and is more costly. Read the section on dry eyes on my blog page.
184420 tn?1326739808 I had the same problem and the eye dr gave me restasis and Lotemax. Restasis takes about 3 months of use before it actually works, thats where the Lotemax kicks in-it is a steroid that helps the Restasis get to work faster. No more problems for me.Chronic Dry Eyes will do this to you.I was miserable with mine.
Avatar m tn No restasis works with a plug. What usually would be done is a "permanet" plug that won't disolve but that is easy to remove because it has a cap would be put in and left till you switch to restasis. Collagen and dissolving plugs usually just last several weeks at most.
Avatar f tn I then tried Restasis for 3 months.and all it did was burn, so I stopped. If you read the fine print, Restasis only works in 15% of the people. I found that liquid eye drops can aggravate the situation because they don't seem to contain the "oily" tears that are needed to protect the eye from drying. Often I would get headaches that started with my eyes hurting. I finally found that eye ointments works and Genteal PM was the best.
Avatar m tn Yes good luck. I hope restasis works as well for you as it has for me.
Avatar f tn If restasis works then you stay on it perhaps for the rest of your life. It is a very safe medication with very few side effects. Don't plan on living as long as most people if you don't want to be dependent on medications.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with severe dry eyes 4 years ago. I tried all kinds of liquid drops and they did not work. I tried Restasis for a few months and all it did was burn my eyes. They don't advertise this, but Restasis is only effective in 15% of the people. Finally I had my bottom tear ducts plugged. What worked best for me was an ointment. I use Genteal PM as needed throughout the day, otherwies I'll get a headache from my dry eyes.
Avatar n tn For aqueous deficincy you can try artificial tears like hypotears and standard dry eye treatment or if nothing works restasis. It is unlikely you have ocular candidiasis.
Avatar f tn Restasis (for life) for my extremely dry eyes. They feel like sand is in them. I am concerned because from what I can understand Restasis works through the auto immune system. I am in week 38 of standard treatment and since week 16 of treatment have had a hypothyroid. Any advice? I also was told this morning to increase Procrit from 20,000 to 40,000 a week because Hgb was only 8.5 on this weeks lab. Totally unrelated probably but added just in case.
Avatar f tn Restasis is the #2 most widely used prescription in the USA and most people are post menopausal females. Over 4-6 months it works to make a younger more effective tear and reduces inflammation on the surface of the eye.. My wife is on it and has had tremendously improvement as has several of her friends.
Avatar m tn My opinion mainly a way of sucking more money out of the pocket of patients and insurance companies. Plus once you buy this you have to get patients to use it in order to pay for it. There is a big movement now in optometric and ophthalmology circles to proclaim oneself 'Dry Eyes Center of Excellence" and this supposedly can addd $500K to $1M extra revenue/year. I think it is a racket.
Avatar f tn No restasis does not cause floaters. I have been on restasis for about 3 years and my wife 7 and I have hundreds of patients on restasis. Now floaters are common and can occur anytime. Thus people decide that their floaters are due to whatever they have been doing. Example attributing them to flying, reading, watching tv or having their pupils dilated. Remember it take 4-6 months for restasis to become fully effective.
Avatar f tn I started Restasis in October, at first it seemed to help daily, the past 3 weeks I too have noticed vision changes mostly in one eye. My eyes also itch and seem to blur and tear to the point the tears run down my face. I will be making an appointment this week. I am thinking I have become allergic to Restasis. Do you have itchy eyes? And how long did you use it before noticing problems? Please post if you learn more about this.
Avatar m tn I have said this before but both my wife and I have bad dry eyes and my wife has been on restasis with good results for about 15 years and me for about 10 years. Note it takes 4-6 months for Restasis to kick in and work fully. There are too other drops that are in this family. Xiidra, which I do not use after having poor results and may complaints from my patients about stinging, burning and not being effective.
Avatar n tn My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?
Avatar m tn I ordered the Restasis on line but it will not come in 2 weeks plus the kick in time will be at least 1 month. Can the topical corticosteroids like Lotemax be used to treat irritation caused by dry eye ? Is it safe to just use it for a temporary like 2 weeks.
343006 tn?1314446471 I can't say for sure if the dry eyes are a side effect but there are treatments for it. There are OTC drops to help keep the eyes moist; there's something called Restasis (sp?) that the doctor gave to my Mom for her dry eyes. Hers were so bad the corneas were scratched up and her eyes were painful all the time. The Restasis wasn't comfortable to use at first because of the damage but now her eyes have healed and feel so much better. I do believe that's a prescription however.
Avatar n tn No from a recent post: General Information on Dry Eyes a Schirmer test of zero indicates that you have severe dry eyes. I'm assuming from your posting that you have tried both preserved and unpreserved artifical tears, gels or lubricating ointments at bedtime, environmental modification, etc. Don't discount eye drops. There are over a 100 different brands of artificial tears and they can't all be lumped together. Sometimes one will find the perfect drop.
429949 tn?1224691579 My opthalmologist put me on Restasis about three weeks ago, but I didn't start it until today. I wanted to do some checking into the possible side effects first! The one side effect that concerned me was blured vision. I have had enough blured vision to last me a life time. I had it straight for almost a year, and now it is almost gone, don't want no more.
4319578 tn?1352739861 The best allergy medication is one that works for you. There are many allergy medications and one has to find one that works. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn Read this article I wrote carefully: http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/index/233488?page=7&personal_page_id=5373502&sort_by=date Both my wife and I have moderately severe dry eyes. Both of us are on restasis with complete success. She for 6-7 years and me for one and a half year. IT WILL TAKE 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU SEE THE FULL BENEFITS OF RESTASIS SO DON'T STOP THEM. Restasis eye drops does not cause cancer if it did neither my wife or I would be taking them.
Avatar n tn ve lost most of my eyelashes and my eyes get infected constantly. I have been using zylet, and dioxcycline orally. My doctor insists I keep using restasis even though my eyes are constantly infected. I thought this was contraindicted. And the antibiotics don't help at all. My eyes just get worse by the day. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I've been using Restasis for a number of years and I believe my blue vial holder came with my first shipment. Haven't seen another since.
Avatar n tn If they can't figure it out at Stanford with multiple eye visits no way we can give DX for certain. Most common causes would be dry eyes, if nothing works ask them about a trial of restasis or tear duct plugs.
