Just diagnosed w/ all three. Doc sez to use Restasis and artificial tears w/ no preservatives. Everything I read about Fuchs sez to dry it out, even w/ a hair dryer. Doc sez eye is damaged by current dryness and he cannot do the cataract 'til tears function better in a month or so. Will the Restasis increase the moisture and worsen the Fuchs? What is the failure rate on cataract w/IOL combined w/ dry eye combined w/ Fuchs? He is concerned w/ this combo.
Thank you for the prompt reply. Restasis is only available in the U.S. and a prescription is necessary I was told. I am in Montreal. What exactly is in this medication that is so helpful? Can a Canadian cross the border, visit a clinic, and get such a prescription because at this point, I am ready to try just about anything.
I see the top ophthamologist at one of the hospitals in Montreal and he told me to search the net for info on SLK as the man runs he has so many patients.
No restasis does not cause floaters. I have been on restasis for about 3 years and my wife 7 and I have hundreds of patients on restasis. Now floaters are common and can occur anytime. Thus people decide that their floaters are due to whatever they have been doing. Example attributing them to flying, reading, watching tv or having their pupils dilated. Remember it take 4-6 months for restasis to become fully effective.
My ophthalmologist recently prescribed restasis for dry eyes. I read that cyclosporin can causes cancer. Is this true? Are these drops safe?

Both my wife and I have moderately severe dry eyes. Both of us are on restasis with complete success. She for 6-7 years and me for one and a half year. IT WILL TAKE 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU SEE THE FULL BENEFITS OF RESTASIS SO DON'T STOP THEM. Restasis eye drops does not cause cancer if it did neither my wife or I would be taking them.
I personally would not have plugs put in. they fall out, they can scratch the eye. If you're not on Omega 3 I would start them.
I have a moderate to serious dry eye. I am going to start my Restasis today and I know that I will not see the result till 2 months or more from now. I am also planning for a cataract surgery in 1 to 2 months. I also foresee that I will use some steroid or antibotics for a few weeks after the surgery. Do I need to stop Restasis once I start the steroid ?
I am having the same issue since starting Restasis about 2 months ago. The first month my vision seemed to be fine, but around week 6, my left eye has become very blurry at all times. Even my up close vision, which I've never had issues with has become blurry, and fuzzy. Also, everything in my left eye looks very dim, almost a shade of blue. I went to an eye specialist last week about this, and he told me that there were no signs of anything wrong.
Not all cases respond though and oral doxycycline and oral flax and fish oil are often very helpful. I also like to use commercial lid scrubs like ocusoft original to start with and sometimes sterilid cream works great. There is one other thing - demodex follicularis - which are little mites in the eyelash follicles. They can cause terrible blepharitis in some people and the doctor needs to look for that.
I have tried so many meds and now am on restasis and my doc said we could do plugs which now I am going to. A few thoughts and my eyes are really bad but that have helped slightluy. The theralid foam is the best for me to keep the eyes clean. Much better then baby shampoo or the wipes. I use only preservative free drops but when I put them in I close my eyes right away to keep them in as much as possible. If I go too long without the drops forget about it.
Restasis is the treatment of choice for dry eyes and it takes 3 months to start working and it gets better and better for up to 6 months.
Some eyes are hard to fit with plugs.
One final word. If this was not a MD eye physician ophthalmologist you saw and it was an optometrist then I would not believe a word and would go to see an Eye MD. Find one at www.aao.
I have said this before but both my wife and I have bad dry eyes and my wife has been on restasis with good results for about 15 years and me for about 10 years. Note it takes 4-6 months for Restasis to kick in and work fully. There are too other drops that are in this family. Xiidra, which I do not use after having poor results and may complaints from my patients about stinging, burning and not being effective.
My Eye Doctor suggested I keep Restasis in the fridge to make more comfortable and reduce the burning and to keep using ir for 2 days. Does Restasis lose its effectiveness when placed in the fridge. Also when are results typically seen? I have a TBUT of 5 and hoping to see an increase if ues consistently.
So i went to see an Opthamologist and he said i have dry eyes. Since then i have been using various lubricant eye drops, Restasis, and sometimes antibiotic as he suspected eye infection.
But till now it only gets slightly better, i still have to use the artificial eye drops at least 6 times a day, plus Restasis. Will that mean i have to stick with the eye drops forever? Are my dark circles related to dry eye? I have performed blood tests and result shows that i don't have any allergies.
I had cataract surgery 5 days ago and wan't to restart my Restasis. Can using it negatively effect the healing?
I have said many times on this forum both my wife and I have very bad dry eyes and we both are on restasis her for about 6-7 years and me for 3 years with excellent results. Restasis is twice/day for the rest of your life and it takes 4-6 months to fully become effective. Read about it on their website and see an Eye MD that specializes in cornea diseases and discuss.
Restasis is the #2 most widely used prescription in the USA and most people are post menopausal females. Over 4-6 months it works to make a younger more effective tear and reduces inflammation on the surface of the eye.. My wife is on it and has had tremendously improvement as has several of her friends.
