requip and gambling addiction

Are you getting any outside help for this ie; counseling? My Dad had a gambling addiction for years and bet and lost the "farm" more times than I can remember.

It does sound nutty to think Requip could be associated with gambling compulsion. I Googled this and it's true. It's been known for at least the past 2 years. However, I'm sure the incidence of this is tiny compared with number of users. I agree, we have enough hassles without having to worry about gambling!

Step 1 Admit that you have a serious problem and that you are unable to stop yourself. Ask for help from friends, family members and counseling services. Step 2 Remove yourself from situations where you feel tempted to gamble. Don’t hang out with people who encourage you to gamble or attend events where gambling is allowed. Step 3 Turn over your finances to a trusted third party, and have them receive monies and pay bills on your behalf.

mirapex and requip... it seems they increase the dopamine levels with some side effects not to get overlooked by someone with addiction issues... The poster shared her experience with mirapex of getting addicted to gambling. It can happen. She even left a link of a documental made in Canada about this terrible effect of mirapex. So just in case, be aware of this or research in case you are given those meds.

I tried to approach my wife about her vicodin addiction and gamling addiction, but she said she needed her vicodin for her chronic fatigue and gambling for stress relief. She would get severely angry at me, and tell me I only want to take the things she enjoys away from her even though she needed the vicodin for her chronic fatigue. Hey sorry to hear of you recent misfortunes but you are 100% correct you have to stop all together you are an addict and will always be an addict and need to come to terms with that trust me if you can get a grip on things and refrain from any and all use of alchol and or gambling it could be an ok thing you may even be able to help others.

What should I be expecting? The guy said he had a gambling addiction and deals with a lot of addicts, do you think he'll be able to understand what I am going through? I have an opiate problem. Check out the discussion on how terrible the withdrawal symptoms are for Effexor. That may sway you to try something else anyway-there are other options. Personally I'd avoid Effexor after withdrawal myself. Some doctors (even psychiatrists) are not that knowledgable about these very powerful drugs. Also-it COULD be the Effexor for these reasons: as 'nursegirl' said: mania can make a person feel great and do things like you are experiencing; everyone responds differently.

If you wish to, you could do some counselling with him maybe to learn how to be supportive without being codependant. Gambling is an addiction like any other and you are right, it IS about self control or lack of it. Im not sure "nice, supportive" can do an addict any good without him being committed to stopping his addiction and making a commitment to treatment. I'd make getting help and sticking with it and NO GAMBLING a condition of my supportive.

The plan was to always go CT from here. I only bought 3 Subs off the streets and threw away the person's contact info as soon as possible. I can give you a few hints on optimizing the effectiveness of your Sinemet rather than keep raising dose: No protein to eat unless long enough before dose for the food to have already passed thru the small intestine. Small amout of starchy food food can help when taking med, but no large amounts of food before taking the med.

I have had RLS all of my life and I tried the Requip as well which helpedd me but when I was w/ding it did not help a bit. I usually (when I am not using) have to shake my feet until I go to sleep. I take a hot shower before I go to sleep and that helps a little but depending on how long I have been on my feet during the day I still have to shake my feet and stretch my legs and calves for a few minutes before I can go to sleep.

It sounds like you have been diagnosed with RLS and requip worked for you well until it was determined to be causing side effects, and you were switched to Sinemet. One known side effect of Requip is swelling in the legs; it sounds like you had an extensive evaluation for all the symptoms you began experiencing after January 2008. Sinemet works well for RLS symptoms, but has a higher risk of eventually causing what is called augmentation, or the occurrence of symptoms earlier in the day.
