Rebif and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Rebif and hair loss

rebif

1437229 tn?1296070020 One more thing: although hair loss is not super-common, it does appear in the fine print for Rebif as a reported side effect -- so probably same for Beta. My Rebif nurse said several of his patients had similar experiences.
Avatar f tn Rebif can cause hair loss -- it did for me, starting around 6-8 weeks after I started Rebif. Hair loss lasted about 3-4 months. Also: thyroid issues can cause hair loss -- and Rebif can affect thyroid function. So get your TSH, free T3 & T4 bloodwork done -- every few months while on Rebif. I take Zinc & biotin (as well as vit D & fish oil) to help with hair loss.
1936411 tn?1333831849 Thanks, Candy. I am NOT looking forward to hair loss (hope I'll be one of the lucky ones). Sorry to hear that you're deadling with the side effects. I've heard a lot of people swearing by Biotin to combat the hair loss, but I haven't done any research to see if there exists any unbiased substantiation of those claims. Have you tried anything to fight the hair loss, and if so, have you had any luck?
559187 tn?1330782856 Well, I was on Copaxone a couple of months only (horrible allergy) and have been on Avonex for going on 3 years, and no unusual hair loss. This is just anecdotal, of course, but I haven't read any reports of this about the CRABs and they've been around a long time now. Didn't know Gilenya caused this. Ugh!
Avatar f tn Why would it suddenly cause malar rash, joint pain and swelling, extreme hair loss, anemia and chronic diarrhea, just to name a few. Has anyone heard of rebif causing lupus symptoms? I am still waiting for blood results from that appt. They took 8 large tubes of blood, so hopefully I will get those results soon. I'm just tired of feeling like crap and not being able to eat because everytime I eat solid food it goes right thru me.
649926 tn?1297657780 I feel I need to repeat myself and say that I know I have bigger issues than hair loss but darn it it just *****! sllowe sweetie I think Quix pretty much just confirmed that the DMD is the cause so if you find scoop please share :) I think I will call the doctor next week and see if she has any ideas from other patients. If so I will share them with my balding friends, ha ha.
1378566 tn?1286930813 I got my welcome package and rebif today. Now they want me to wait for a nurse to come out and teach me how to poke myself? Is it really that hard, I have watched the dvd and read all my info?? Should I wait until atleast Monday to start?? It stated that Monday, Wednesday and Friday's were good days to take it?? That way I would not have to take a shot on the weekends... One more question, I have not been on a steroid? I'm still have severe sensory loss from my waist down?
Avatar f tn I had asked this question once before, if anyone had experienced diarrhea on Rebif. And one member replied, that, yes, she had diarrhea & she was on Rebif, but wasn't sure if it was from the Rebif. I developed severe diarrhea, 4 months after starting Rebif. Now, I'd like to ask more about it. I was diagnosed with Lymphocytic colitis, 12/17/2012. I took 3, 3 mg. of Budesonide capsules a day(generic Entocort) for 6 weeks, with no reduction in the diarrhea. So, then, my G.I.
Avatar f tn They were high, so at that point my neuro instructed me to go off all meds and supplements, and no alcohol, stayed on Rebif and they remained high when test was repeated. Went off Rebif, stayed off other meds and alcohol, they returned to normal, and remained so after I started other meds again and consumed alcohol again. This is how we could be certain it was Rebif causing the prolem.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was diagnosed 2 years ago in September. I have been taking Aubagio for almost 2 years. For about the first 6-8 months I had mild diahreha (sp?), and hair thinning. It all leveled out and my hair grew back! I don't have any side effects now and I'm glad I stuck with it. Good luck!
198419 tn?1360242356 They no longer talk about remissions. I will be on chemo the rest of my life. I am still riding and walking the dogs. The next chemo I go on in February is going to be rough and once a week. I will lose my hair again. I have liked having hair. People can't tell I am sick. I am hoping for five years. It will be four in May.
Avatar f tn Hi beeama! I don't know what the instances of anemia and interferons are, but if you've not taken any supplements, and then go off the rebif for a week or two, then re-run the labs and they check out good you very well could be affected. It is the docs responsibility to order the labs, but have found too I have to remember to ask for the script for labs. Since it was 6 months ago - they should be run again for good measure.
Avatar n tn It is impossible for me, or anyone, to tell whether or not you would have had your attack had rebif been started earlier. Rebif, and other injectable MS medications (the interferons), reduce risk of relapse significantly, but not by 100%, meaning that even if someone is on a medication, they could still have a relapse, but their relapse risk is just less on the interferons.
Avatar n tn I've only been on Rebif a short time and as yet, have had no problems like what you describe. How long have you been on Rebif?
Avatar f tn Only in the past 20 days, hair fall has gone up. Does hair straightening dry out the hair causing lack of moisture and thus hair fall?? I truly hope that this is temporary as you mentioned!!
1489159 tn?1288657429 Hi there, Sorry for your diagnosis. The side affects mentioned in the literature can and do happen. I'm a Rebif user for 3 years now and do very well. My site reactions are just a warm (to touch) pink about the size of a silver dollar. I inject straight up without the autoinjector but I many people use the auto and it works very well for them. Like all meds it's important to weigh out the benefits and risks.
Avatar f tn I just finished Sovaldi and olysio and no hair loss at all, in fact hair looked great I do have hypothyroid which is familial, mother , daughters have it, Check your thyroid levels That can effect hair loss, dryness etc( even my eye brows and under arms thinned from hypothyroidism ) You may need to be on thyroid medication such as synthyroid if it is off
198419 tn?1360242356 Let us know how you make out and what if anything you think Rebif may have to do with this. I start Rebif next week and am keeping fingers crossed that it doesn't disagree with me. Another thought --- have you tried calling the Rebif patient support program to tell them about the hives? Perhaps they have heard from other patients with the same problem? Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn My hair has ALWAYS been so thick and moisturized and healthy and now its dry and frizzy and falling out! Its awful im so embarrassed it literally never stops falling out.
Avatar n tn If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones.
