Common Questions and Answers about Ramelteon rem

rozerem

Avatar f tn These drugs are believed to possess similar abuse potentials. Ramelteon (Rozerem), works differently in the body to treat insomnia. It is not considered to be a controlled substance. Zolpidem (Ambien) and eszopiclone (Lunesta) have been shown to reduce the time until sleep occurs and increase total sleep time. The sleep induced by them resembles natural sleep. Ramelteon (Rozerem) has shown to reduce the time until sleep occurs.
985832 tn?1249126599 Ramelteon is the name for it in Canada and it is available.
Avatar n tn Specifically, the delayed sleep phase syndrome. He prescribed Ramelteon to help her fall asleep at night. So far, the sleeping pill seems to work but in a subtle way. If she does not prep herself for sleep, sleep will not come. It has gotten so bad that she cannot remember the last time she slept and felt rested. There is a bit more to it then just a sleeping problem. I am not sure if this is related to it but she has laps of time where she can't remember specifically what she did.
Avatar m tn The results were that there were no noticeable issues with my sleep, except for a reduced amount of REM sleep. Then they just sent me home so I assumed that the lack of REM sleep has no negative effect on my health.
Avatar f tn During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders. Here the person acts out the dreams. This can be assessed by a sleep questionnaire and a sleep study and therapy is based on the severity of symptoms.
Avatar f tn There is very strong evidence in studying those with depression and anxiety that their REM sleep lasted longer than others and more striking they had more REM sleep episodes than others. Going along with your mentioning "not remembering" that these absolute horrors and fears from the REM dreams lie in the subconscious and eat at us. I found this very interesting as viewing posts in both those forums most posters are at their wits end about why the feel this way.

Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. A lot of studies are going on to study the importance of REM sleep, which is the dream phase of sleep. Psychologists generally agree that achieving the dream state of sleep is a critical element for maintaining good mental health.

Avatar f tn The Health Physics Society recommends against quantitative estimation of health risk for individual exposures of 5,000 milli-rem in one year or 10,000 milli-rem lifetime. The threshold dose of radiation above which the risk of developing cancer begins to increase is proposed to be about 10,000 milli-rem. The average person living in the United States is exposed to about 360 milli-rem per year from background sources (3.6 mSv/yr).
Avatar f tn Has anyone else woken during a REM cycle, just enough to experience the feeling of REM? I have, and it's an incredible experience. I would like to write it out to share with the scientific community, but am not sure of the proper forum to do so. It might provide some interesting insight to what the sleeper experiences from the inside. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. Intense dreaming occurs during REM sleep as a result of heightened brain activity, but paralysis occurs simultaneously in the major voluntary muscle groups. REM is a mixture of encephalic (brain) states of excitement and muscular immobility. For this reason, it is sometimes called paradoxical sleep.
Avatar m tn I just had a sleep study done which stated the "sleep architecture was severely disrupted" and that I only had one episode of REM. I had "no significant non REM supine sleep present". I only had an apnea-hypopnea index of 5 and my lowest O2 sat was 90%. What are the implications of the above. I apparently only have mild apnea, so what does severely disrupted sleep architecture with only one episode of REM mean to me and what can be done to mitigate this type of sleep problem.
Avatar m tn I haven’t been able to sleep deeply for years. I had a sleep test last year, and according to the test results, I do not have sleep apnea but recorded very little third stage of sleep and no REM sleep at all. I’ve been prescribed various sleep aids, but they didn't do anything. Doctors I’ve seen here put me through many tests to help me, but nothing came up. I’ve lived this way for many years, and I’m always tired. My memory is being affected also. I’d appreciate any help I can get.
Avatar f tn I am trying desperately to find out how to increase my stage 4 and REM sleep. I never feel refreshed when I wake up, no matter the length of time I am asleep. Pain and exhausation has ruined my life. I believe not getting the restorative sleep is the root of the problem. These are the results of my sleep studies: 5/12/04: Stage Wake- 1.7%, Stage 1- 9.4%, stage 2- 35%, stage 3- 39.9%, Stage 4- 0, REM 15.6, 47 arousals, 26 hypopneas, NREM, 13 hypopneas, REM, 96% sleep efficiency.

Avatar m tn As rightly mentioned the patients with sleep apnea have frequent awakenings in the night due to blockade of windpipe and lack of oxygen, they are often tired and spend less time in REM sleep. REM sleep is that part of sleep cycle where dreams occur.
Avatar n tn The formal way of diagnosing narcolepsy is to undergo a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) which is a daytime study after an overnight sleep study. If you're REM sleep deprived in general, you'll have what's called REM rebound, where you go into REM much quicker than normal. You may want to mention your symptoms the next time you meet with your sleep doctor.
4804397 tn?1362162442 It happens to me sometimes from REM sleep as can cause this. Most dreams in REM sleep are of negative nature, its built in by nature to allow us to act out the situation without the real life consequences. In REM sleep our body is paralized and during the waking process our body begins to relax producing these sypmptoms.
254714 tn?1316613355 0% and stage 4 sleep at 0.0% there was 3 rem sleep periods rem sleep was normal at 16.5% the rem latency was at 123.5 min.. the overall apnea hypopnea index was mild at 6.2 events/hr. the remspecific index was 1.3 events/hr the supine index was 7.8 events/hr there was 28 obstructive hypopneas with a mean duration of 14.8 seconds mean saturation was 98.2 with a nadir saturation in non- rem sleep of 98.0% and in rem sleep of 96.0% 100.
Avatar f tn some people do this while sleeping it is an involuntary movement of the body do not be concerned about it and i have not heard a solution to this kind of problem because he dosnt control his body during rem state because rem state is a temporary paralysis of the body during sleep and sometimes people who have paralysed limbs often spasm so do not worry. and he would not recall any of this because your brain is also switched off during sleep.

Avatar n tn Physiologically, sleep paralysis is closely related to REM atonia, the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Sleep paralysis occurs either when falling asleep, or when awakening. When it occurs upon falling asleep, the person remains aware while the body shuts down for REM sleep, and it is called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis.
