Avatar f tn I would say you know your limit to what you can handle, you have to be mentally prepared to quit, have good support around you and then go from there, i know there are moms who quit cold turkey and managed fine, i know couples who quit together and same thing, i also know moms who cut back then quit, they gave themselves a certain timeline and stuck to it... if you feel stong enough to quit cold turkey it is up to you, but either way the sooner the better!

Avatar f tn I was given it from doctor to help cravings since i quit smoking. I feel like this medication is making me more agitated. I also feel like my head is racing all the time. I never had this prior to starting meds. Does this wear off after a couple of weeks?
Avatar f tn Hi and congratulations on your quit! I didn't use Chantix, but another member here who will be along, did use it so might be able to give better advice. I've read many testimonies of people who did have side effects and I would have to say it's *probably* the Chantix but a little early to know for sure since everyone's quit symptoms are different and this could just be Your quit symptom. A headache is not uncommon when quitting smoking.
Avatar f tn I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen!
Avatar f tn i have tried EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING to quit smoking... how did other people do it?
Avatar n tn Used to smoke heavily for almost 11 years. Stopped smoking four days back. I am feeling heavyness in the left side of the chest. Sometimes burning sensation in the throat. Does this due to quitiing smoking or is it any heart related problem?...
Avatar f tn In 2007, I quit smoking cold turkey. I woke up one morning and said "that's it." I know I'm one of the rare cases that just did it, so I'm hoping quitting pills will be a similar experience. One of the things that helped me was the timeline of how my body was recovering from quitting smoking. Does anyone know of a similar timeline for quitting opiates, specifically hydrocodone? I know it depends on age, dose, and how long using, but a generalized timeline would be great.

Avatar f tn I am on the patches and have been smoke free for a week! There is really no side effects that I have experienced! Depending on how many cigarettes you smoke will depend on how many MG you need to be on. You can buy them over the counter or your doctor can prescribe them as well so your insurance can help pay for them. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn however, my husband started on it, then read the possible side effects, got scared and quit taking it. I have not had a cigarette for 5 yrs, he still smokes. Keep in mind the side effects are not inevitable; some people get them, some don't. The drawback to Chantix is that it's expensive and is not covered by insurance...... insurance companies would rather cover the diseases caused by smoking than a cessation program...... go figure.
Avatar f tn I agree with Sammy it isn't as easy as it seems and it's way easier said than done. My cousin smoked the whole time she was pregnant, she had cut back tremendously but she just couldn't fully quit and her baby is just as healthy and happy as a non smokers baby.
Avatar m tn So basically the concept of the medication is that when you quit smoking you quit getting your regular dopamine fix (the brain rewards you for smoking a cigarette by releasing dopamine which makes you feel good.) The zyban, over the course of a few weeks, stops your body from breaking down the natural dopamine in your brain as quickly. So ideally it keeps you from returning to smoking by keeping your dopamine system from crashing.
Avatar f tn I wanna quit smoking but here is my problem, i like it to much. 1010685 tn?1295032636 I am trying to quit smoking anyway and took it for a while about ten years ago for depression with no bad side effects. I know SSRIs are probably better for anxiety, but I hate the sexual side effects. I also considered ativan, but since my mood swings are so intermittent and short-lived, I don't know if they would kick in in time to help.
Avatar f tn Smoking anything reduces the amount of oxygen reaching baby. I quit a pack a day habit as soon as I knew I was pregnant. I figure it's better to be safe rather than sorry.
Avatar m tn I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants. However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide. I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking. Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?

540521 tn?1221699706 d like to say good for you for trying to quit. When I quit smoking on Aug 8th, 2007 I decided to quit Cold Turkey, Told my self if that doesnt work I'll try for the patch, or something else to help me quit. Thankfully quitting cold turkey worked for me, I'll tell ya it wasn't easy, it was the hardest thing i ever had to do. First few days were hell for me but I started feeling a little better as time went by.
Avatar f tn Chantrix works amazingly well. There are quite a few side effects so use caution. I personally didn't have any side effects except maybe making me a little tired or worn down but nothing too bad. One of the side effects is depression so if you are still having trouble in that area from the withdrawals I wouldn't recommend it as of now. It's something you def have to talk over with your doctor and be honest about your situation. It does have about the best success rate out there.
Avatar f tn Of course smoking is bad for your baby and you. The ill effects of smoking have been known for a while. A long while.
Avatar m tn I was just diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and put on Prednisone. I'm a hardcore smoker, but have cut down to about 3 cigarettes a day from 30+, which is quite amazing for me. I know I'm not going to quit any time soon and I know I have to take the Prednisone. How horrible is it to smoke while on Prednisone? What can happen to me(other then the obvious side effects to smoking that we already know of)?
