Avatar f tn I would say you know your limit to what you can handle, you have to be mentally prepared to quit, have good support around you and then go from there, i know there are moms who quit cold turkey and managed fine, i know couples who quit together and same thing, i also know moms who cut back then quit, they gave themselves a certain timeline and stuck to it... if you feel stong enough to quit cold turkey it is up to you, but either way the sooner the better!

Avatar f tn Hi. I'm just curious in people's opinions of something. I am an ex smoker. No longer have the habit. My child's daycare have been taught that smoking kills people etc.. so move away from people if they're smoking. A lot of parents from the daycare have come in abusing the child care Centre as they're smokers and there young children keep telling them they're going to die.

Avatar f tn In 2007, I quit smoking cold turkey. I woke up one morning and said "that's it." I know I'm one of the rare cases that just did it, so I'm hoping quitting pills will be a similar experience. One of the things that helped me was the timeline of how my body was recovering from quitting smoking. Does anyone know of a similar timeline for quitting opiates, specifically hydrocodone? I know it depends on age, dose, and how long using, but a generalized timeline would be great.
Avatar f tn I stopped smoking 58 days ago and just decided that i was stronger than that stupid little cig....i still get the urge but i never give in, I smoked for 29 years and the last couple of years , just really did not like the way i smelled and looked and all that nasty stuff that goes with smoking...

Avatar m tn I smoked from the age of 16 to the age of 27, quit for a year, picked up at 28 until I was 30, then started again 3 months ago. (I am now 31 1/2) I have now quit for the last week and plan (hope) to never start again. I know that the benefits will be worth it as I've quit for long periods of time before. I have put on about 15 lbs (not related to smoking, more from over eating due to stress).
Avatar m tn As Ed suggests, just quit smoking. You can eat all the good foods, take all the good medications, but as soon as you light up a cigarette you take away all the benefits of the medications and good foods. Smoking with heart disease is comparable to hitting yourself in the head with a hammer, then wondering why your head hurts. Millions of us have quit the habit and saved their lives. It's not easy, but can be done.

But im just sayin, i know plenty of women who smoked their whole pregnancies whose babies were perfectly fine. And plenty of women who quit smoking or never did, whos babies were born premature or had breathing problems. Yu never really know. So dont worry, however if yu wanna quit.
