Avatar f tn i have been trying to quit smoking for about 2 weeks. as in i finally starting making attempts not to smoke about 2 weeks ago. my fiance told me if i quit then he would quit doing what he does. i cant afford the nicotine patches or anything like that so i am trying very hard to wean myself off of cigarettes. ill do good for a day, then smoke 2 or 3 the next day. i have cut back A LOT and i am proud of myself for that, but i should have been finished smoking a week ago.
230262 tn?1316645934 for the first time i am ready to quit smoking, it is a disgusting habbit and so unhealthy. i have never even tried to quit. now that i quit coke i am ready to toss the butts, but i am scared, lmao. they have been my friend for 10 years. i have no doubt quitting smoking will be easier than quitting coke, but it is going to be tough. does anyone know how long that really bad cravings are for when you first quit smoking.
Avatar f tn When you say "the pill" to quit smoking, do you mean Chantix? I used it to quit 5 yrs ago and had no trouble with it, at all; however, my husband started on it, then read the possible side effects, got scared and quit taking it. I have not had a cigarette for 5 yrs, he still smokes. Keep in mind the side effects are not inevitable; some people get them, some don't. The drawback to Chantix is that it's expensive and is not covered by insurance......
Avatar n tn If I may regress, I quit smoking on Halloween Night, October 31, 1964. I collapsed with a perforated ulcer. The doctor told me I had to quit smoking because nicotine, a drug, activates the acid pumps in my stomach lining and would irritate my ulcer. It appears that maybe the lack of nicotine has caused some change in your stomach. Ten years ago, I developed a second ulcer, and I have taken one OTC Prilosec a day for 10 years with no problem.

Avatar n tn I smoked for 2 years. I know not a long time but this is how I quit. Ok I started just smoking half then I'd go down to a half of a half. I also chewed gum everytime id get an urge. And I wouldn't smoke that first one in the mornings. Id wait as long as I could then smoke. You could try eating sunflower seeds too. Hope that helps. Good luck! Princess.

Avatar f tn m not a smoker but, When my mom quit smoking she did what my grandpa always said to do If you have a sore throat. It sounds nasty but my mom says works! And I know it works for a sore throat. You drink a tablespoon of vinegar and then right after a tablespoon of honey then drink plenty of water. The vinegar kills bacteria in your throat while the honey soothes it. Hope this helps!!
Avatar n tn my sister quit while pregnant by imaging her baby smoking. I dont know how helpful that will be for you, I would say ask your doctor, they will usually have info on how to quit or get help quitting.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking 5 days ago and I am feeling like my breathing is somewhat shallow. Also, my lungs feel like they are being squeezed, I dont really know any other way to describe it. Also, in my upper back area, pretty much opposite my lungs, hurts as well. Is all of these symptoms normal for quitting smoking? I havent started the horrible coughing stage yet but my lungs do feel like stuff is loosening in them. Sort of like bronchitis. Does anyone know when that will start as well?

Furthermore, the patient who has recently developed a clinical illness is very motivated to change, and several studies have shown that intervention in this "teachable moment" can be very effective.
Avatar f tn I started smoking when I was about 10, quit when I was 50. Got a carton for my 13th birthday. One of the 50 times I quit smoking I was sitting there wearing a patch on each arm, chewing a piece of Nicorette, puffing on a Marlboro all at the same time. It's rough!! It finally took. What bothered me the most at first was people smoking, but I made an oath that I would never be a reformed smoker that looks down their nose at smokers. One of the times I failed we went to the Casino.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking the day after i found out too. I was a smoker for 5 years until september when i found out i having a baby. To me its all in the mind, and you have to be strong and know that you dont need it , its bad for you and your baby. My husband helped me get thru it , my baby my family is too important to me than a cigarette. Just remind yourself that your strong , you dont need it, its all in the mind. Whats in the heart is what matters.
Avatar f tn t researched it, but I almost remember something about smoking while taking the pill increases your risk of blood clots. (The pill increases your risk of clots some anyway, and the smoking makes it a higher risk...at least, I think that's what I remember.) But it wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn Hi all! I have a non pill related question. I am going to attempt to quit smoking to nock another bad habit out of my life. My question is...has anyone tried Chantix? I am about to start it but I am really nervous because I have read that it can have some serious mental side effects. Has anyone tried it? If so, what was your experience with it?
Avatar f tn Today is day three ...i felt pretty good up until 2pm ...but still being strong. Im trying hard not to think about it. I'm not as shaky as yesterday but still feel like it a little bit. I do have a doctors appointment next week and was wondering wat kind of depression medication i should take and stay away from because i know some are addicting. i did notice that I'm not smoking cigarettes that much .....probably cuz I'm wanting i pill instead.
