Avatar f tn She her neurologist says what she has is called Organic Brain Syndrome, she is on all kinds of meds, takes them regularly, myself and her family is having a hard time believing that this is what she has...she has done, eeg, ekg, brain scan, spinal tap, you name it, i think they've done it i believe.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden in 2009 meds quit working as effectively, dr added effexor and trazadone to my celexa and something I was taking for pain that increased serotonin levels, within 5 days I was hospitalized with serotonin syndrome. Horrific experience since i am in the medical field myself. The drs around here are not familiar with this disease so it has been difficult to treat. I have been trying different meds for the last 2 years now and after a few doctors have had no good results.
Avatar f tn i have horner's syndrome but also have asymetrical flushing on one side of my face iafter exercise my last gp was no help now i have a new one and i would like to get this investigated as i suffer terrible headaches after exercise i was born with horner's syndrome with no trama at birth and it has never been investigated should i see a doctor
Avatar m tn Is it possible to get a mild form of serotonin syndrome from taking Buspar 10mg twice a day and also smoking some concentrated THC (wax)? This thought has come and gone for me for a few weeks because I haven't felt the same ever since. I thought I may have chronic fatigue syndrome (I suspected I have fibromyalgia too) but I am now thinking it could have been serotonin syndrome recently.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar n tn a single episode of seizure cannot be marked as epilepsy. An EEG to ensure that there are no structural abnormalities in brain. Normal EEG and MRI brain are encouraging though this does not rule out a future episode. You need to consult a physician for investigating any underlying infectious condition, high or low blood sugar, injury, electrolyte imbalance, drug withdrawal syndrome etc.
Avatar n tn You can find information about brain injury by contacting your state Brain Injury Association website. There are TBI (traumatic brain injury) model hospitals that are excellent at assessing head injuries and in providing treatment. Just google TBI model hospital for the area that you live in and see if there is one that is close. That would be my first recommendation, even if you only go to them for an evaluation for him.
Avatar m tn What do you do when you feel so much stress from anxiety and frustration it feels like your brain is exploding and you can't make the the situation go away which is causing it? I normally would drink or something to calm down but I'm trying to stay clean and don't want to drink while taking antipsychotics but I'm close to doing it any way. I can't handle the stress of this, I'm going to relapse or something if this keeps up.
Avatar n tn I am not a medical proffesional and I do have Bipolar Disorder but I imagine that when chemicals are upset in the brain anything is possible. The brain is where all thoughts start so when a defect occurs so does a deffective thought occur. I would defiently have the little one seen by a doctor for future counseling. That is a strong emotion to deal with at 11 years old.
Avatar m tn I did not know he was researching anxiety-related stuff, but I feel the need to share his research regarding Niacin deficiency's role in paranoid schizophrenia (paranoid type is not organic like the other types of schizophrenia; you basically "develop" it, but not because of anatomical brain changes). I am a psych major, and this has been discussed during my studies.
Avatar f tn Hello. What is a better exam of the brain to see if a psychotic episode history is caused by something in the brain, ex. tumor etc.? MRI or CT scan? And why? Thank you.
1085628 tn?1326551885 I eat a lot of organic stuff, about 60% of what we eat is organic. We live in a small town and organic stuff is hard to come by, or we'd definitely do more. I hope to grow some stuff in a garden this year as well... that would be fun!! ...We tried last year but we ended up putting our daughters playground set over our garden! ha ha! Organic is great, it's the way I like my food. Pesticide and hormone free!!
Avatar n tn I was wondering could this possibly be brain cancer? Also he has a lump on his skull which he can feel. He is a teenager and its very rare for a teenager to get night terror at that age he blanked out and seemed there was somebody else in him it did not sound like him and he was screaming and trying to run through the closed door.
Avatar m tn Organic headaches are symptoms of a physical condition. Some examples of organic head pain include meningitis, aneurysm, brain tumors, brain abscesses, and brain injury. A persistent sharp headache must never be ignored. Please go for a CT scan or MRI of the brain and consult a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn Arachnoid cysts are a collection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF, the fluid that covers the brain and spinal cord) between two layers of tissue called the arachnoid. They are thought to be present from birth in the large majority of patients. They can occur in any location within the brain. They are often incidental findings with no symptoms and with no consequences. However, when they do cause symptoms, that could include headaches, seizures, and in some rare instances psychiatric problems.
Avatar m tn I don't have feedback to you because I'm on the other end of the situation. But if you don't mind I have a question. My husband started taking Risperdone 2 months ago (and DEpakote a bit earlier) for his first major Manic Episode with Psychotic features. And up until 3 weeks ago (when he actually agreed to increase the dose) he was somewhat psychotic, he hates me thinking I was his worst enemy etc...
Avatar f tn I never really felt like myself until I started that treatment in clinical study but once I did could look back and see that I always had behavior patterns and obsessions that were markedly abnormal. A psychotic break does potentially set off a series of permanent brain changes although ones they are just learning about and as newer and safer treatments are developed medication will probably be initiated early to prevent this from happening.
Avatar f tn The psychiatrist told me that he had tourette syndrome, ODD, depression and ADD. He prescribed Ritalin, Seroquil and Celexa. So, I began the course of meds and my so became a MONSTER. He was horrible and crying one minute and quiet and sad the next. I went back to the DR he switched up his meds which included Risperdal which made him a complete zombie. I guess my question is: How do you treat Tourette Syndrome.
Avatar f tn Ironically, these disorders are in our heads, in our brains, to be exact, not the hypochondriasis or psychosomatization, but some very real functional and organic changes in our brain, and how the brain, immune, and endocrine systems functions and responds to input from the world around us and dysfunctions within us. What is the prognosis for those who have one or more of these disorders? Some regain a degree of health, some remain the same, and some worsen over time.
Avatar f tn EEG indicative of generalized encephalopathy. Changes consistent with organic mental syndrome 2d to inhalation of halogenated hydrocarbon which caused previous CP arrest and led to anoxic brain damage. d/c home 31 days post-event in hopes familiar surroundings would aid in adjustment to new condition. Current psych has opined pt lacks competency to give meaningful consent or handle funds.
Avatar f tn They also suffers from post-concussive syndrome include severe sleep disruption, and this symptom seems to have started around the time of the concussion. My question is – Are there any treatments for Hyperosmia?
Avatar f tn In the doctors (pleural - my gp was told by the docs who work for the insurace company) defense, I have no sign, really, of organic disease. In order to explain my difficulties, they came up with somatization disorder. I spent yesterday researching somatization disorder, all over the world wide web. I then RE-researched the neuropathic pain which brought me to them. You know? The ones I didn't know existed when I went to the doctor to ask what was up.
Avatar m tn Let's say i suffer from psychotic depression.I read it is treat with a combination of antipsychotic and triciyclic antidepressants.
Avatar n tn My doctor who is fairly young, in good shape, very food conscious - organic food, his wife grows own veggies, etc - handed me a book called "Wheat Belly" and on a long shot asked me to read it. Might be the key to loosing that last 10 or so pounds. The book exposes the evils of wheat, how it has changed over the last 30 years, how it sits way high on the glycemic index causing the sugar/insulin roller coaster ride that makes us fat.
Avatar n tn Can brain zaps be masking an underlying illness. When these occur I feel like I am dying. It is almost an out of body experience with numbness in my head and down my body. I feel like I am having a stroke or my brain is bleeding. This is very scary and is accompanied by labor breathing and a concious effort to stop the next zap from happening but I cant control them. What is wrong with me?
