Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic friend

psychotic

Avatar f tn Well, not being a doctor, the things you describe are concerning. It does sound like something is wrong. It would be a good idea for her to talk to an adult about her problems and see a psychiatrist. Let her know you are concerned and want to help her because you're her friend. If she has a good relationship with her parents have her talk to them first. If she's afraid, maybe say you can be there for support. It is a hard thing to ask for help when things are not going well.
Avatar n tn 5 which I feel fine.. As of late I have been waking up with what my friend believes is psychotic episodes, moments of ultra confusion for me as I usually have no recolection. It is now getting to the point where I could hurt myself as I thrash about and walk into walls. I had a CT Scan which showed no problem. These attacks which I thought where TIA"s (Transient ischaemic attacks) mini strokes if you like proved otherwise..
Avatar n tn i need advice, my friend, 14, is in need. She previously cut herself and had serious thoughts of suicide. She is seeing help and is being treated, and was diagnosed with bipolar 2 and mania. She recently has begun hearing voices telling her to kill one of her friends, and telling her that someone wants to hurt her. I'm only fourteen, her parents dont care - they wont pay attention if anyone says something. If we tell the school shell be sent away immidiately, does she really need that?
Avatar f tn Hello. What is a better exam of the brain to see if a psychotic episode history is caused by something in the brain, ex. tumor etc.? MRI or CT scan? And why? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am having lots of sleep problems while tapering from Risperdal but I am not even thinking about taking help of any anti psychotic to sleep. Even my Pdoc says it is wrong to do so as an Anti psychotic should only be used for the purpose it was made for.Incidentally my last dose of Risperdal is on 22nd night.
Avatar f tn My Psych. has me on all three, plus Klonopin, am not getting anybetter and refuse to take anti-psychotic meds.
Avatar f tn It could also take some time to find the medication which is right for her because not every medication works the same and as effectively for every single person but chances are that one of them will work for her eventually. It could be bipolar disorder with psychotic features like ILADVOCATE said or some psychotic disorder since 120 conditions can have psychosis as a symptom.
12268405 tn?1427853361 On April 2nd I made the decision to admit myself to a psychiatric hospital due to a psychotic episode. The thing that I'm having the hardest time comprehending is if I induced the episode or not. I convinced myself that I was covered in fleas, I heard voices saying my name and calling me worthless in the past, & I experienced paranoia. I don't know what to think right now. I wish I could know if I made the symptoms worse or not...
1965148 tn?1354978634 can anyone share their experiences with psychotic mania or bipolar with psychotic features? i have no idea where mine are heading but they are here, and they are not backing down.
Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar f tn Not every breakdown is psychotic. I had a complete mental breakdown about 16 years ago or so which lead to 3 years of crushing depression - my illness course leaves me prone to this type of breakdown. However not being on meds? Dont know - i went nearly 15 years not on meds and i thought i was fine until I wasnt and went psychotic manic, so you might be fine for a long time as well. And I wasnt fine, I was hypomanic and looking back had at least 3 mini breakdowns and burnouts in that time.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from a severe depression with suicide ideation in which i apparently had psychotic symptoms. Has anyone else had psychosis without knowing what it was until speaking to your therapist about what was going on? and does anyone have any advice as to what to look for in oneself when psychosis starts?
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
Avatar n tn She is 20 years old and in college. Today she told me she felt like she was having a psychotic breakdown. What is this kind of breakdown?
Avatar n tn And if you have suicidal urges you need to see a psychiatrist right away. Depression with psychotic features is when a person has psychotic thoughts only during mood fluctuations. With schizoaffective disorder psychotic thoughts or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) can occur at any time. But as to how to look at it I'd say look at it as I do, I am a person with a psychiatric disability and I need treatment as part of my recovery.
Avatar f tn d suggest you inform yourself. NAMI has some good family and friend support groups and we have some websites linked such as "Depression Central" (for all mood disorders). She could have bipolar with psychotic features or schizoaffective disorder (ask the psychiatrist both have a mood disorder with psychosis). Clearly if she hears voices and has delusions its more than bipolar.
Avatar m tn If he has bipolar or schizophrenia he may not be eligible for the army, and if he needs that medication for psychotic symptoms or mood stabilizing going off will be a very bad idea. What is his diagnosis? And is he eligible to join the army? I just read that disorders with psychotic features is a disqualifying disorder. Please don't think about him going off the med and not revealing his complete health information. It could be dangerous to not just him but those serving with him.
539694 tn?1434565947 i hallucinate and im often aware of it and i know ive been pretty paranoid and delusional for much of my life. Thing is at their extremes those are psychotic symptoms.. i dont feel psychotic im not a bad or nasty person :-( You say theres been times you felt like people could read your thoughts? I get that but i only noticed and really realised the last few years, its just so subconscious you know?
558096 tn?1255887002 It's an anti-psychotic that some people use in small doses for sleep. If it's prescribed to a person who actually needs an anti-psychotic, it usually doesn't knock them out like it does to others. If it's being used only for sleep, a small amount goes a long way. If too much is taken, one can be asleep for days. I've had it happen to me and several other people I've known. I took 200 mg and was asleep for 32 hours.
Avatar f tn after going into his first full Manic Episode (which led him to try to commit suicide). He was extremely Psychotic and only now 3 months into taking Depakote + Risperdal he starting to 'feel' better...but he not even close to being the productive, happy person I've known for 12 years. When he was Manic he started telling everyone how horrible of a person I was and that he was divorcing me.
5243927 tn?1365511675 ve never been down that road but have a friend who has. There are a few on here who know way more than I do on this subject. I hope see your post and offer you some better informed info. Stay safe.
Avatar f tn By the way, a friend of mine is a teacher. She had started a new medication for her mental health issues and unfortunately, had a psychotic break at school. She walked herself to the office knowing she needed to be away from her classroom. She'd called her husband to meet her who came immediately. They talked the principal and she left and her husband drove her to the emergency room. She took the next day off of work and they were getting her meds corrected.
Avatar f tn Hi I found this forum trying to get some info for my best friend who is a former nurse. She is on alot of meds for various ailments. My concern is the hydocodone and the anti-depressants. She came up for a visit and ran short on the hydro. She called my husband to try to borrow a couple of his but could not drive to get them. Her husband called for her later and my husband spoke to him. Seems she was freaking out a little but her husband managed to calm her.
Avatar n tn m having depression from an antipsychotic medication called invega. My pharmasist friend told me that it decreases something called dopamine in your brain I'm wondering if getting on anti depressants could help reverse this or perhaps that just touches base on other issues other than what I have reason to be the cause (the invega). Also is it possible to ever feel happy without these medications or do I need something that potent (the antidepressants) to get back to normal?
