Common Questions and Answers about Psychotic break definition

psychotic

Avatar m tn my 22 year old son just experienced a psychotic break. I need to understand how he was feeling. Is there anyone who has personally experienced this, and would be willing to describe what you felt? I am desperate to understand what he is going through.
Avatar m tn My pdoc yesterday told me it's possible to have a psychotic break from too severe anxiety. This scares me bad, what is that? Does that mean I'll go crazy and hurt someone? Myself? Has anyone ever had one of these? Also is there anyone here that has had several months of severe anxiety, then slowly goes back to several months of calm? I'm afraid this feeling will last forever. Just to make sure I'm experiencing this "anxiety" what does it feel like to u all?
447130 tn?1225470866 has recenlty been traumatized, then had a complete meltdown which the docs called a Psychotic Break? They are hospitalized for being a danger to themselves & others. I don't have much more info than that. What does this mean? Is it temporary? How long can it last & does anyone know how long you can be held by law? Or is that a state by state issue? Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn t until I had a psychotic break that I was diagnosed. It seems that after I was diagnosed (after my break) that I haven't gotten back to the "pre-break" feeling. (I stay in the depressed more than the mania) I know part of that is because of medications and we don't always want/need to get back to the "pre-break" feelings, but I am wondering... Does a psychotic break change our disorder to a permanently detiorated state? Does it just get worse on it's own?
Avatar f tn I read a blog where people said that they could literally not move, speak or just exist and that they were psychotic and wanted to kill themselves. I am under severe stress daily because of anxiety and depression and I feel like it is bound to happen. I can't stop thinking about all the horrible things the people experienced, I have never been so scared in my life, I was less scared of having a stroke when I was in that phase haha.
Avatar f tn I've been taking multi-vitamins for a long time, but now I'm wondering what kind of break should I take? Usually, I stopped taking vitamins for 3-4 months, but now I don't feel very well, I'm thinking to continue the course.
Avatar f tn OK, if where you live, the definition of a virgin is that she has an intact hymen, that is the definition. Maybe he broke you or maybe he didn't, or maybe you broke naturally in some other way. It's hard to believe you have to be examined every month, what if someone breaks her hymen herself? Not very fair. Anyway, I would try not to worry. It is possible that you just got a little stretched.
Avatar f tn As to your question that's complex. A manic episode is a mental change in that its a break from reality. A person's emotions are not normative to what is going on. It may impair judgement such as the grandiosity typical for mania where a person has an inflated sense of self importance. As for psychosis that is a sharp break from reality in logical and normative thinking.
Avatar m tn In psychiatry, the definition is necessarily more precise and implies that the belief is pathological (the result of an illness or illness process). As a pathology it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information or certain effects of perception which would more properly be termed an apperception or illusion.
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not sure about that. Antipsychotics don't work right away. Tranquilizers do. Antipsychotics, if they do work, work all the time. Tranquilizes only work for a short period of time and then wear off. If she took this as an antipsychotic injection, it would be during an emergency situation but she would have to take the shots for several months and then go on the medication for longer than that.
Avatar n tn There is a wealth of information in this forum, website and on google. As a beginner try here : http://www.bipolar.com.au/understanding/ Is there a person in your life you are asking with this in mind?
Avatar f tn Ok. But is it common to be manic all year round like I am. Even with the meds. Like I said I only hit the depressive mode when I hear a certain melody or when its those to holidays but I never stay in it for long. But I wouldnt say just depressed its mixed.
1351968 tn?1278205300 In mood swings there are difficulties in the understanding of emotions and relations with people and ability to focus and understand things and make appropriate decisions but when a person encounters psychotic symptoms there is a full break in reality testing. If you are concerned about any specific symptoms you have it would be essential to discuss them with your psychiatrist and of course if you have any new symptoms of any kind always bring it to their attention.
Avatar f tn As Sylvia says, you could break your hymen by being fingered. That said, the commonest definition would be that the man's penis has to go inside the vagina.

Avatar f tn How many of you diagnosed with Bipolar disorder have been told that you are a rapid cycler? And if you are, how long do your episodes usually last? and do you ever experience psychotic symptoms the entire time??? thanks for reading!
574118 tn?1305135284 t know whether i am cycloth... or BP2 or BP1 but sure i had psychotic symptoms so may be BP1. But again my 1st mania occurred only under AD's as well as all the other 3 manias. But the latter weren't true mania just hypomanias for a few days but still due to AD's which I rushed in time to kill. Now this time my 2nd full blown mania stayed for 7 months now which is nonsense and my AP's are greater in dose than before. Can a mania stay that long or perhaps i changed from cycloth...
Avatar f tn It stems from mistakes I made when I had my psychotic break a few years ago. I did some things that just shame me to no end - mostly financial. Some of them were apparent when I lost everything (financially) and some others aren't completely out there. And of course, my suicide attempt that very few people close to me know about. This panic has led to anxiety and the anxiety to severe depression.
3236191 tn?1451021479 So my dreams have always been foggy/cloudy as if I were just imagining them while awake but lately my dreams have become very vivid as if I'm not even in my body while I'm having them. My meds were coincidentally increased and are having more of a positive effect on me than they did last time they were increased but I've also had a psychotic break between now and then.
