Prozac and anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and anxiety

prozac

Avatar n tn ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.
Avatar m tn I suffered from the same exact thing as your daughter!! I never knew there was actually a name for it "emetophobia" thanks nurse girl! Anyways I went through this when I was 15 and in highschool it almost prevented me from graduating because I had so much anxiety about it and would miss school. I realized it all stems from the fear of being embarrassed. I never actually got sick in front of anyone and 20 years later it has surfaced again. So I'm in therapy and trying some meds. ..
Avatar n tn I have a history of anxiety and restarted low dose prozac 4 weeks ago. For the past few weeks I have been more tired than usual but figured it was the medication. For the past 4 days I have had muscle aches in my legs and some in my arms. I also have been feeling some lightheadedness off and on. Has anyone else had these symptoms in relation to anxiety?

Avatar f tn Anyone have severe chest pain caused by anxiety or depression? This pain is constant. Doctor wants me to go on prozac and wean off the ativan.
Avatar f tn i went into a 3 day tail spin of intense anxiety, racing thoughts, and obsessive thinking about the anxiety and fear of it coming back. i could literally not think of anything else. on top of that hell, i couldn't sleep through the night. 50mg of diphenhydramine would knock me out. but i would wake up 1-3 hours later. the first 2 nights this happened, i was able to fall back asleep. but the following nights, i wasn't able to fall back asleep.
Avatar f tn told her about my husband had been on Xanax for about 3 yrs and I have no in, so when my sleeplessness started , and anxiety I took one of his Xanax at times and some times I would have to take 2mg so she put me on 10 mg of prazac and 1mg of Xanax . my question is I scared to death of the anti-depressant because I have heard good people doing bad things on them I told her I was afraid of them but she insisted I take both.
Avatar m tn Many doctors will prescribe it short term on an as needed basis especially when you start and SSRI like Prozac. I was prescribed it and used it for couple of months while I got used to the SSRI...just work with your doctor when you come off of it; for me there was a little rebound anxiety but it helped that I cam off of it slowly, and furthermore, I was not on it that long. Keep us posted!
Avatar n tn Bronchitis doesn't mean anything -- just means your bronchia are inflamed. Doesn't tell you why, and unless it's a bacterial infection antibiotics don't treat it. Sounds to me like you had a bad reaction the medication -- unlikely you suddenly developed an anxiety problem at age 50, though not impossible.
Avatar f tn I am a 34 year old woman who has dealt with depression and anxiety since I was 16 years old. 9 years ago I found a great psychiatrist who listens and understands my concerns. I would make an appointment with your doctor to go over what you are experiencing. Do you drink caffeine or coffee in the morning? Sometime stimulants like caffeine will cause one to be anxious in general. I have had to limit my caffeine intake or I have a bad attack.
1867019 tn?1353467540 I need everyone's opinions on Prozac and Zoloft. My doctor said said Prozac could give me seizures...scared the s*** out of me!! Please let me know if you have taken either of these?
517130 tn?1223039824 I just started taking 10mg a day of prozac due to anxiety and panicks attacks that i usually have at night ( 3 in the past 6 months), also im just an emotional roller coaster! The doctor didnt say anything about avoiding alcohol. I'm not an alcoholic but my girlfriends and I usually have 2-3 cocktails about 2-3 times a weeks. I was at a memorial day barbeque yesterday and had 3-4 drinks over an 8 hour period.
Avatar f tn I'm taking Prozac 30 mg and I've been prescribed Buspirone 15 mg for anxiety. I'm super paranoid about medication in general, but I also have vistaril 50 mg for anxiety. I've scared myself silly looking up medicine interactions. The chance of getting seratonin syndrome is absolutely horrifying to me. How rare is it? Should I cut the buspirone in half? Or should I just take the vistaril and forget the buspirone all together?
Avatar f tn Frequent urine is actually a symptom of anxiety, and also the medz u were taking can increase in anxiety symptoms so that could've been the problem. When I'm feeling anxious I use the bathroom alot.
Avatar f tn The Dr said this would go away once the prozac fully kicked in , but its been a month and nothing. I know the prozac is helping but i have ups and downs all day. If I sit at home by myself for an hr or two i will feel depression and or anxiety. I guess my question is..... do you think that I should request a higher mg of prozac (20) or keep giving the 10mg pills a try? I hate having to try so hard to not feel depressed.
Avatar m tn I stopped Prozac, and my anxiety is under control now. I am currently taking .5 mg of Klonopin morning and night, and I am doing fine. Strangely, I do feel physically ill again (like when I was sick), but my anxiety is fine. My chest has been hurting all the time (GERD, chest pressure, and chest pain), and it doesn't seem to correlate at all with feelings of anxiety. The chest pressure and pain honestly feels cardiac related, but I've had that checked out thoroughly.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son has ADHD inattentive type and anxiety. We are just starting to treat the anxiety now. He took celexa and I didn't see a difference in his anxiety. We weaned him off of it and took a 2 week hiatus from antidepressants and just gave him his focalin. We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 0.5mg Klonopin every night to help me sleep with my anxiety and it's really helped but just recently my doctor has put me on 10mg of Prozac to take every morning , well now I'm having troubles sleeping again even while taking the klonopin , could the two medication's be working against each other ?? I'm new to this group so please can someone help me out ?
Avatar f tn my dr toldme if the prozac dont kick in and help my depression he will precrine a anphetamine with it...has any on eheard of this?
2064754 tn?1333375663 There are different types and classes of medication that people are prescribed for anxiety and depression. There are faster actiing meds like Xanax and Ativan that are used on an as needed basis and are usually prescribed more short term and then there are medications like Zoloft and Prozac (SSRIs) that are prescribed more long term and taken on a regular basis. While these are only two types, there are also multiple other classes of medications that are used in the treatment of both.
484508 tn?1290010544 Could this be a result of chamomile tea with prozac or maybe I am just having an odd reaction to Prozac, or just my anxiety? It got my attention!. I will see my psychiatrist, first time in 5 months tomorrow. I know he is going to tell me I am not suffering from anxiety but bipolar..I fear this.
Avatar f tn Worry and fear is what feeds our anxiety and keeping it going strong, so the less you worry the less anxiety. Trust in your doctors and accept that you are fine and get on with your life. Live your life and not worry it away. Do all the things you enjoy, you don't want to miss a second of your life! Time passes by so quickly, and you don't want to wake up one day an old person and wonder where the years went.......you will have worried them away instead of living them.
Avatar n tn t say this since I work for a pharma company that *cough* is involed in the creation of some of these drugs, but frankly, I would stay away from Paxil. I also suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and panic, and I did try Paxil initially to help with the symptoms. It actually made them much worse and had a lot of very unpleasant side effects.
