233622 tn?1279334905 (Provigil) I, too have high blood pressure and am medication for that as well....When getting this prescription, I asked the pharmacist about this BP issue. He gave me a printout and it said that only 3% of people reported a problem with higher BP. I have been checking my BP every day, and it hasn't been much affected by it since March 1st....
Avatar f tn I take provigil for my fatigue. It helps me to be able to get through the day without feeling like I could just close my eyes and sleep. If you feel you need it then push the issue, or talk with your family doctor about maybe getting it. If you push the issue then your neuro should see that you really need it. I hope your neuro or the nurse calls you back soon with some good news for you.
Avatar f tn popular with young people may carry more of an addiction risk than thought, a small government study suggests. Scans of 10 healthy men showed that the prescription drug Provigil caused changes in the brain's pleasure center, very much like potentially habit-forming classic stimulants. Modafinil, the drug's generic name, is sometimes used as an illegal study aid by college students.
405614 tn?1329144114 I’m writing once again regarding a possible appeal of the denial of Provigil prescription that you wrote for me at our last visit, after it was clear that the free week’s trial of the medication was very helpful in restoring some of my quality of life. I contacted my insurance company, spoke to Brandon, a pharmacy account specialist. He said that more evidence showing that the medication is medically necessary to help my condition is needed.
Avatar n tn PROVIGIL is a prescription medicine used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness (ES) due to one of the following diagnosed sleep disorders: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) In patients with OSA, PROVIGIL is used only along with other medical treatments for this sleep disorder. PROVIGIL is not a replacement for your current treatment.
704043 tn?1298056844 She had no problem with prescribing it, as she had watched me grow more fatigued over the years, saw how much Provigil helped me, and was willing to try another medication. Oh, my neuro at that time had suggested Ritalin if Provigil failed or I was unable to afford it. I found that 5 mg. twice a day even was not tolerable for me. It gave me heart palpitations, facial tics, irritability, etc. Also, the second dose of the day didn't seem to wake me up at all.
Avatar m tn What type of Dr would prescibe this med? I suffer from chronic fatigue and being the sole caregiver for an ailing parent now for eight years, I have develped caregiver burnout. Energy/motivation has never been lower. I've tried all kinds of nutritional aids to no avail. I would like to try this medication for the short term. I don't have a regular Dr so I am curious what type of Dr I should see to discuss this with........
620048 tn?1358018235 would have to write a different prescription for it, but then you could give it a try without trying to find the money to pay out of pocket. I hope your insurance covers it, it works great for you, and life gets better.
1142551 tn?1264736930 Ask for a prescription for Nuvigil instead. Provigil is more expensive and I actually had more side effects with Provigil. Nuvigil is the 2nd generation of Provigil and the manufacturer has lowered the price to get everyone "switched" before the patent on Provigil expires in 2011. For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning.
Avatar f tn My neuro suggested maybe trying Ritalin.....he says Provigil is the best, but it is kind of pricey even w/ my insurance.......So is Provigil worth it? ....Has anyone tried Ritalin? Has anyone had any weird s/e w/ either med??? I would be very grateful for any input....
405614 tn?1329144114 I'm talking about coverage of medications. I've mentioned before that my insurance won't cover Provigil because I don't have a diagnosis, though a trial of it helped me a great deal. I called the company that makes it today, to inquire about their Patient Assistance Program. If you have any insurance, you aren't eligible for their help, even if your insurance won't pay for their medication.
Avatar f tn My regular NP was giving me Provigil, and when the new NP came in she stopped it due to not being a medication she liked giving. So my Pain Management doctor took it over, which my regular NP doesn't know about. Can I get in trouble or am I just worried over nothing?
429700 tn?1308007823 Thank you so much for the feedback. I just dropped off my prescription to get it filled at the pharmacy. I'm holding out a little bit of hope that the medicine will work. I'm thouroughly discouraged about the Provigil not being covered by my insurance company because I feel halfway human on this medicine. I kind of feel like the character Charlie in Flowers for Algernon having seen the way I could be and having to slide backwards to the way things were before.
405614 tn?1329144114 I called, actually talked to BCBS pharmacy specialist; he said that my diagnosis was "fatigue from cerebral white matter disease", which is a diagnosis without medical proof that Provigil is helpful for. DUH! I'm sorry, but I wish I had an actual diagnosis! I know that some people get Provigil covered. I'm going to ask my PCP for more information on this "Cerebral white matter disease" that she's sure I have.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I take Provigil. I got a prescription from my neuro when he thought I had MS. Later I figured out I had Lyme, but I stayed on the Provigil because it helped me so much with fatigue and brain fog. The first day I took a 200mg pill and within an hour I felt soooo much better! I thought it was a wonder drug. (My Rx said to take 1 in the morning for 7 days, then take 1 in the morning and another 1 midday.) Then I noticed that my heart rate went up noticeably and stayed up for most of the day.
Avatar f tn Arrrggh! Now my prescription insurance is balking about paying for Provigil and requires preauthorization! What the heck is that, except another bureaucratic hurdle to scare off the faint of heart, or the weary. It seems to me that a prescription *IS* a preauthorization, for heaven's sake. If a doctor doesn't want a patient to get whatever substance, he or she won't prescribe it. I've been through this before, and it's maddening. Not surprised, though.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the concern & response, I just don't know all our services here pretty much help with light bills, food, rent, etc. I just don't see them helping me to pay for my pain medication, provigil, etc. Someone told me I should ask dr for methadone script b4 my insurance runs out so I don't suffer, I don't know, I really don't know what will become of me next month, no meds at all, after being on them so long! God bless you for caring.
398059 tn?1447945633 I read that some of you use provigil or whatever and some other drugs for fighting fatigue. What are the good, the bad, and the ugly on using them?
562511 tn?1285904160 Medicare has quit covering many medications this year. My prescription insurance plan is lousy and quit paying for one of my medications all together. I wanted to share with you a prescription card I got in the mail the other day. It said it was free to use (uh huh, sure) Not that I'm cynical or anything. Yesterday I decided to use it and guess what? The prescription that usually costs $30.00 cost me $9.00. I can live with that. I don't know if the discount is always that good.
429700 tn?1308007823 After all this time, three years at least, my insurance company is no longer approving me for Provigil. This drug is the one thing that I've taken that has made a huge impact on the quality of my life. Without it, I'm unable to think clearly and I'm too fatigued to get up out of bed or off the couch. I may have to retire on disability because there's no way I will be able to teach. The drug also helps with the ADD (diagnosed after the MS as an adult, LOL).
572651 tn?1530999357 A co-worker called this week with a question about our insurance - she was denied provigil/nuvigil, even though her doctor contacted the insurance company and appealed the decision. She suffers great fatigue and the sample helped her a lot. She was wondering if I had any clues as to how others get this drug approved since it is not an MS drug.
Avatar f tn I take provigil which I think is similar. It made me sick for the first week and ad the end of the first week I felt pretty good. They did double the dose and that has made a huge difference. It's not that I don't ever get tired or I never have fatigue but I can get through the day now.
230948 tn?1235844329 Hi Sam, I have such fatigue that I actually take two provigil a day. It's a life saver. I don't believe I could get up and make it through the day without it. My insurance co. wouldn't approve it at first and I had to go through their hoops (luckily I used to limbo so it wasn't too hard) and take OTHER STUPID stuff first before they approved it. I took Ritalin, Adderall, and one other "ADD medicine" before they approved the Provigil.
Avatar f tn Anyone on medicare have any experience or enlightenment on provigil financial help? I've been quoted 33% copay (tier 4) by my drug insurance company which is over $300 for me The online sources I've contacted no longer cover provigil since the generic came out and the generic is about the same price... Looking for financial assistance sources if anyone knows of any thanks!
1096856 tn?1333119985 I want to give myself the best chance of conceiving naturally but with the help of some medication. If I am not able to conceive without IVF, I think I would take that as a sign that I am just too old and by the time they did all their workups and procedures, I would be more like 44! I do want a child, but don't want to get too crazy about it. Thank you again for your response!! You are a great help to all of us.
401095 tn?1351391770 Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...
Avatar n tn Does anyone have information on Provigil Abuse? Is it possible? My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days.
