I tried Provigil last summer with high hopes, after wrangling my insurer over it--it's expensive. Alas, it didn't do diddley for me. Maybe Ampyra will help me. I'm exhausted all the time.

Is anyone familiar with the drug provigil or monafinil for enery and depression...? It is a drug for narcolepsy....wakes me up but not sure about use during tapering tabs...

Does anyone have information on Provigil Abuse? Is it possible? My husband was addicted to prescription Oxy for 5 years and since getting off (3 years ago) has been on several different meds to overcome depression, etc. He has been taking Provigil for 2 years, but recently he runs out of his prescription before the refill date and he stays awake for days on end, between 7-10 days.

I don't have MS (so it appears), but I have quite a few similar symptoms, including dizziness and the related brain fog and fatigue. Back in 2000, neuro prescribed Provigil, saying "we used to use Ritalin for this" but that Provigil is now favored because of fewer side effects. Provigil was very helpful for both fatigue and cognition, although I didn't like the late-afternoon "letdown" effect I got with it. It was rather unpleasant.

A decent GP would be the place to start ..... provigil is actually indicated for treatment of CFS .......... Its an expensive drug at 10.00 a pill prescription.....lots of insurance companies dont wish to cover it for that reason...... but it is being widely used now - - it will most likely be rescheduled before long because it has more of the shortcomings that straight amphetamines have than was thought during trials........

After all this time, three years at least, my insurance company is no longer approving me for Provigil. I got a prescription for Nuvigil from my MS dr. , she has noone else using it yet, so i am her first. As soon as the insurance Co. approves it i will try it and report back to you..as long as i remember.

I take Provigil. I got a prescription from my neuro when he thought I had MS. Later I figured out I had Lyme, but I stayed on the Provigil because it helped me so much with fatigue and brain fog. The first day I took a 200mg pill and within an hour I felt soooo much better! I thought it was a wonder drug. (My Rx said to take 1 in the morning for 7 days, then take 1 in the morning and another 1 midday.) Then I noticed that my heart rate went up noticeably and stayed up for most of the day.

Has anyone on here taken Provigil? my doctor gave me a sample pack and told me to try it for my chronic fatigue. I was on a prednisone pack and felt fantastic until it started to taper off, now its my 2nd day off it and i feel like ****, and im supper tired... I tried 100 mg of the provigil, and i have had a screaming headache all day. (had to take tynelnol). anyone else have this?

I was in an accident, I currently have a metal plate, screws, & cadaver bone in my neck, operation 4 yrs ago, I have Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Restless leg syndrome, & depression. I have been on Oxycontin 20 mg 2 x day & Endocet for breakthru pain when needed, Provigil 200 mg 2 x day, Prozac 40 mgs which is on Walmarts 4 dollar plan.

Arrrggh! Now my prescription insurance is balking about paying for Provigil and requires preauthorization! What the heck is that, except another bureaucratic hurdle to scare off the faint of heart, or the weary. It seems to me that a prescription *IS* a preauthorization, for heaven's sake. If a doctor doesn't want a patient to get whatever substance, he or she won't prescribe it. I've been through this before, and it's maddening. Not surprised, though.

Hi Sam, I have such fatigue that I actually take two provigil a day. It's a life saver. I don't believe I could get up and make it through the day without it. My insurance co. wouldn't approve it at first and I had to go through their hoops (luckily I used to limbo so it wasn't too hard) and take OTHER STUPID stuff first before they approved it. I took Ritalin, Adderall, and one other "ADD medicine" before they approved the Provigil.

I take provigil which I think is similar. It made me sick for the first week and ad the end of the first week I felt pretty good. They did double the dose and that has made a huge difference. It's not that I don't ever get tired or I never have fatigue but I can get through the day now.

Anyone on medicare have any experience or enlightenment on provigil financial help? I've been quoted 33% copay (tier 4) by my drug insurance company which is over $300 for me The online sources I've contacted no longer cover provigil since the generic came out and the generic is about the same price... Looking for financial assistance sources if anyone knows of any thanks!

A co-worker called this week with a question about our insurance - she was denied provigil/nuvigil, even though her doctor contacted the insurance company and appealed the decision. She suffers great fatigue and the sample helped her a lot. She was wondering if I had any clues as to how others get this drug approved since it is not an MS drug.

Medicare has quit covering many medications this year. My prescription insurance plan is lousy and quit paying for one of my medications all together. I wanted to share with you a prescription card I got in the mail the other day. It said it was free to use (uh huh, sure) Not that I'm cynical or anything. Yesterday I decided to use it and guess what? The prescription that usually costs $30.00 cost me $9.00. I can live with that. I don't know if the discount is always that good.

s medical assistant regarding my letter asking for help getting approval for Provigil. She said that Dr. S. said that Dr. Y. needs to do the research since she prescribed the Provigil. I explained that Dr. Y. prescribed the trial rx, and that Dr. S. had written a rx for "fatigue from cerebral white matter disease", that Dr. Y. hasn't considered that as a diagnosis, that she has MS as a differential diagnosis. Ask for a prescription for Nuvigil instead. Provigil is more expensive and I actually had more side effects with Provigil. Nuvigil is the 2nd generation of Provigil and the manufacturer has lowered the price to get everyone "switched" before the patent on Provigil expires in 2011. For me, the difference between Nuvigil and Provigil was amazing. Nuvigil gave me back my life. Provigil let me leave the house but I had trouble functioning.

My neuro suggested maybe trying Ritalin.....he says Provigil is the best, but it is kind of pricey even w/ my insurance.......So is Provigil worth it? ....Has anyone tried Ritalin? Has anyone had any weird s/e w/ either med??? I would be very grateful for any input....

I've heard that the generic provigil isn't half what provigil is........but have filled out the paperwork for provigil, just haven't heard back from them yet, for assistance.

I was given Nuvigil to help me with the fatigue that is causing me to have to nap pretty much every afternoon. The prescription is for 250 mg, but the neuro said I could probably take a half a pill and be fine. The first day I took it I was fine. The second day I was wide awake until 1 am, so the next day I took it at about 9 am. All of those days I only took a 1/2 dose. The third time I was having rapid heartbeat and hand tingling off and on throughout the day.

I have essentially, turned myself into an addict am ashmed and embarassed I allowed that to happen. A fwhile ago a friend gave me a huge ziplock bag of PROVIGIL 200, and a massive amount of ritalin, 5s,10s, and extended release 20s. I have attempted to research PROVIGIL, ate one and it seems to add to my energy level. I am not looking to trade addictions.
