Provigil and ms fatigue

Common Questions and Answers about Provigil and ms fatigue

provigil

Avatar f tn I have debilitating fatigue due to MS and have tried everything - Provigil, Amantadine, Adderall, Ritalin - the works. While Provigil helped for some time while I was still working, that was many years ago and its effectiveness eventually petered out. At the time, I was taking a very large dose in accordance to doctor's orders, and my side effects (heart palpitations, increased rate of speech, crashing, etc.) were quite bothersome.
620048 tn?1358018235 I do use OTC sleep aids like you said and i think for now i will continue, i have some ambien, but i will keep it to use when i need it, since i had to beg for it. I dont want to use it all the time anyway. And i use 200 mg of provigil now, and i sometimes i could use a bit more. But i try to stick with 200 mg.

Avatar f tn Modafinil is a drug for narcolepsy prescribed for MS fatigue. I am interested in knowing if you have narcolepsy or MS fatigue. Recently I have been experiencing extreme fatigue for which my neuro prescribed amantadine. It is working. The next step would be modafinil but I was told that many of their patients use Ritalin or adderall. Both are addictive so they start with the ones with least side effects first. So far amantadine has been helping get me through my day without crashing.
Avatar m tn i was told today the VA no longer will Rx provigil for MS fatigue. have to have a sleep disorder and get it from pulmonary now. they will, for MS patient fatigue Rx amantadine. i have battled MS fatigue for years and recently decided to try something for it, so the VA is Rx amantadine vs provigil. anyone on this list try amantadine for MS fatigue? just checking with the experts here (actual suffers). i thought provigil was what i needed.
1896537 tn?1381900009 "... as it's not like any other exhaustion I've ever experienced." Yep, from what I (still unDx limbolander) have experienced, and from what I've read about MS symptoms here and elsewhere, fatigue is among the most common and most debilitating things that this exclusive club can claim.
Avatar n tn Hi Reus, Thank you so much for joining us. I'm only familiar with the meds they use to treat MS fatigue, one of them being Provigil. I'm doubtful since your SPMS that this will pass. Have you had it all along? I'm not a Dr., but I know that many symptoms that present, and do not go away, are pretty much here to stay. Not that there are not those occasions where one is lucky enough to lose a symptom, but most of mine that lasted longer than 5 months have stayed. My Dr.
429700 tn?1308007823 I'm late here but have tried it for fatigue - maybe should try again, only took it once or twice and didn't seem to affect me. I am not dx with MS, but have fatigue and CNS symptoms from lupus.
Avatar n tn Hey I have MS and I have switched back forth from phentermine to provigil. Provigil is so much more on costs. You can buy medicine from elsewhere with your prescription and save money.
1710955 tn?1309446473 I take propanolol and the generic Provigil which I've done for years. The propanolol increases the Provigil in the blood. I only take 100 mg. of Provigil. I have tried other medicines for fatigue and they don't work for me. I don't have any adverse effect and it actually makes me feel human. Typically, the medicines used for attention deficit disorder or ADHD are used to combat fatigue.
797195 tn?1240579823 I have been living with MS for ten years and have been lucky. Between taking AVonex and Provigil my relapses are very few and far between. and also not severe.
Avatar f tn I have the same issues (MS and Sleep Apnea). There are times when I can take the Provigil and still lay down and go right to sleep. I told The Physician Asst at my Neuro office there are times when the fatigue is so bad the Provigil doesn't help. She said that when someone has that level of fatigue there probably isn't anything that will help except sleep. Quix might be able to tell us what the half life of Provigil is. I only take it in the morning.
Avatar m tn Because of the intense fatigue, the NP gave me prescriptions for Ritalin (improve focus), Provigil (fatigue), and Marinol (help with nausea/lack of appetite, helps reduce pain/ spasticity from nerves misfiring) The Ritalin and Marinol are working great so far. I have not yet tried the provigil. I want to talk to my GP first because I have high BP and Provigil can elevate it. This was supposed to be a short note, so I'll keep quiet now.
Avatar f tn s been an issue with me for more than 10 years, but the last 2 months I was really bad and just being awake for more than 5 hours wore me out. He prescribed Provigil and I've read some of the threads on it and it sounds very promising. My question is, is it something you can take daily indefinitely? Or are you supposed to just take it when you need it (which would be daily for me!) I hope my insurance will cover it because I'm not diagnosed with ms or anything.
Avatar m tn It could be that the patient unkowingly has sleep apnea or some other sleep disorder that is impeding restorative sleep and causing daytime fatigue. Fatigue is a side effect of many meds used to treat other MS symptoms. If that's the case, other meds should be explored which may cause less of this side effect. Perhaps an underlying unrelated medical condition is to blame. Things like B12 deficiency should first be ruled out, through standard blood tests.
900662 tn?1469390305 I was offered drugs for fatigue last year, all I have to do is call the Ms nurse and she will call the drug in to my local pharmacy, but I'm not sure which drug.
518001 tn?1212419235 My current neuro prescribed Provigil for me the first day he saw me, but later I realized he had already decided I had MS. Provigil is used in the fatigue of MS, CFS, and Fibro. It is off-label, but has show itself to be quite safe and not have a dependence problem. Another possiblity is amantadine, but most people like Provigil better. If your B12 is on the low side, even without being deficient, I recommend the sublingual 1mg supplement of B12 in the "methycobalmin" form.
968560 tn?1307451498 also people with narcolepsy and MS patients with fatigue, amongst others. I read on the MS forum that many members use and recommend it. I'm still waiting on a prior auth and trying to make up my mind about it. Right now...today....I feel really good, so I don't know that it's warranted. First time I've ever heard of it.....
Avatar n tn Dr. Kantor: I am 51 and have for months been experiencing what the doctor calls "chorea," treated now with clonazepam. Other symptoms that are wrosening are immense fatigue and feelings of weakness in my left arm and both legs below the knees. Because I have a pacemaker, I can't have an MRI. Tests done include a CAT scan, two EEG's and a PET scan, along with lots of blood and urine work. All "normal.
398059 tn?1447945633 My dx is Fibromyalgia - but along with my extreme fatigue and pain I have a lot symptoms similar to MS - thus I lurke here and have learned a lot from you all! I was prescribed PROVIGIL for my fatigue and it works GREAT for me! Not only do I have more ENERGY, but it helps me to MULTI-TASK , THINK CLEARLY and really GET THINGS DONE - well, at least a moderate amount of things, given I have a chronic illness.
Avatar f tn I have fatigue that began with severe, intractable (non-MS) vertigo. Then the vertigo doubled with the MS. I started out on 200mg and went to 300mg. I could fucntion, really had to becasue of a major medical thing in my family. But, I seriously overdid it and crashed hard (bed for 2 weeks). You have to pace yourself, even though you feel like you can do so much. The crash can undo all of Provigil's help.
645800 tn?1466860955 My worship arts pastor at church has ms also and he and I talk on occasion. I asked him last week how he was doing and he mentioned the fatigue thing and that his doctor had put him on provigil and it helps so much. I have the problem that it doesn't go into effect until later in the day and sometimes right when I want to go to sleep. I've set the alarm at 4am to take it and then go back to sleep to have it help more earlier in the day.
Avatar f tn YES, it definitely will help you! I've known MS patients who are taking Provigil and they say it's a miracle drug--this doesn't mean it'll work fabulously for everyone, but it does do an amazing job of zapping excessive daytime sleepiness. I'm taking Provigil for excessive daytime sleepiness as a result of sleep apnea, and the first few months I was on Provigil I've never felt more awake in my entire life.
