Proscar for prostate

Common Questions and Answers about Proscar for prostate

proscar

Avatar n tn he tried avodart for 1 year but not worked good for him thats why he stop and try another drug name proscar...
Avatar n tn The Proscar can reduce your PSA by 50%, so future PSA results will have to account for that reduction. Meaning you may have to double your next score for a true value. You need to make it clear what your status was when you took the last PSA test 1.35. Had you already been on Proscar for some time? Others have said "The increase is the key even if it is small."... Right now you don't need to worry about that.
Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old and was treated for stage one prostate cancer last year. I had agressive treatment with a combination of external radiation and Brachytherapy. I now on Uromax tablets (Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.4 mg) which is causing me severe pain when ejaculating. Please advice if there is anything I can as I am still very young.
Avatar m tn I have sought out a urologist who said he detected a high count of white blood cells. I was prescribed procrit or proscar for an extended period of time. I did not complete the required dose because it wasn't helping. I now i have infected my sex partner on a couple of different occassions. she gets treated and cured but i can not. My symptoms include burning and an itching feeling on the tip of my penis.
Avatar n tn Some factors leading to inflammation include too frequent or too infrequent ejaculation, sexual arousal without ejaculation, withdraw at the time of ejaculation, excessive alcohol or spicy foods, prolonged sitting or bike riding, etc. The prostate may then become secondarily infected and require antibiotic therapy for cure. Sometimes as the prostate gradually enlarges with age, friable veins called varices develop on its surface. These are also prone to tearing.
Avatar f tn I have a slightly enalrged prostate for years.nothing new. My PSA level is totally normal. Examination of prostate (physical) revelaed no alarm. Blood tests in general are normal. I have hypogonadism and use AXIRON..but the loss of sensation extends to SEXCUAL as well (almost no feeling there and DIFFICULT to ejaculate.if i do almost nothing comes out. What is going on? 250398 tn?1225263291 Thanks for the confirmation. It'll be a couple of months before I am back to a place I can see a doctor that I would feel comfortable understands me. Lucky I guess that I have the Bactrim and Cipro with me. Discharge seems to be much less and more cloudy to clear than white now, after 1.5 days on the two Antibiotics. But, still sore in the lower abdomen. Maybe a bladder infection. Thanks again.
250398 tn?1225263291 Given this, what would you suspect for me? I do have BPH and am on meds for it. Do you think maybe I am experiencing prostatitis or some other prostate issue or UTI? I have had some soreness in the lower abdoman and also in the right testicle/epididymus. I am out of the country workingf, and have no real access to adequate healthcare (or that can speak good enough English to discuss). So, I am looking for some reassurances, I guess. Thanks for your help, AJ.
Avatar m tn I am a 69 year old male with BPH, and a father who had prostate cancer for 15 years, but did not die from it. I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency.
Avatar n tn Also, a radical prostatectomy seems like an extreme measure for prostatitis! I had a radical prostatectomy in Jul 2018 for prostate cancer, and the effects of that are not to be trifled with - 15+ months later, I’m still struggling to regain sexual function & many things are different, including urination. Believe me, you don’t want this unless it’s to save your life, as in if you’re diagnosed w/ cancer.
Avatar f tn he check my blood, urine analysis, said it was urethritits put me on doxycycline for 2 weeks. That made no change...nizoral for 10 days, no change...I went to a urologist...checked my psa.. 0.50, physical examination of my prostate normal..urine tests, culture and yeast urine test..normal..the urologist said to me you do not have a prostate problem but i am going to give you this drug called proscar anyway..this will cure any problem that you do have..Well it didn't....
Avatar n tn Hello sir, it is important to realize that the biopsy needle is quite small and the biopsy tissue only represents a small portion of the prostate gland. Therefore, it is possible for the biopsy to not concur with the final pathology result (which is the most accurate way of staging your disease). Also, you have only had a small portion of all the pelvic lymph nodes removed.
Avatar n tn Finasteride goes by the brand name Propecia (for MPB) and Proscar (for BPH) and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness (MPB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [enlargement of the prostate]. The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body.
Avatar f tn s for benign prostate enlargement, and the results were rather mixed. Then Proscar came along and pretty much ended that debate. Saw Palmetto has faded into the background - it's possible you affected your DHT levels, but it will definitely only be temporary. I quit Proscar for that reason, best not to fool around with sex hormone levels, in my opinion.
Avatar m tn 60 yo white male. BMI of 26. I eat very well and exercise moderately. Due to a couple of PSA spikes (from < 2 to about 4 ng/ml, then back down) in recent years have been seeing my urologist every 6 months and getting more frequent PSA tests. lowest ever PSA, in my late 40s, when I started testing, was 0.7 ng/ml more recently: 9/12 1.9 ng/ml 4/13 1.1 12/13 1.5 5/14 < 0.1 all done by LabCorp. When questioned the lab said they are confident of the result.
Avatar m tn I just was on bactrim DS for 6 weeks for Prostatitis cause of pandemic they could not see me. My urine is always clean. I was given flomax but refuse to take it because of ejaculate going backwards and might faint. What can I do to solve this? I usually go to acupuncture but this pandemic is closing everything.
Avatar n tn observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide.

Avatar m tn The Uro will most likely give him a prescription of an antibiotic. Ask for Cipro, it seems to be the best at Prostate penetration being a Quinolone antibiotic which penetrates better than most other antibiotics. Just see what the Uro says and write back after that if you want to.
