Avatar n tn I met guys whose psa had increased form the 1 area to 2 and they had prostate cancer... the increase is the key. Also if you ever have prostate cancer and I sure hope you don't, I would really recommend Proton Radiation if it is available to you./... It has a 90% cure rate and little to no side effects from the treatments... Its like I am cured and was never sick... I hope this helps you.
Avatar n tn In such cases, Proscar is sometimes prescribed to shrink both the prostate and the veins. Although hematospermia is not a typical sign of prostate cancer, its presence may indicate an increased risk of prostate cancer. It is exceedingly rare to have prostate cancer before age 40" en.allexperts.com/q/Urology-Male-issues-989/Brown-semen.htm However, check if the discoloration is seen repeatedly. An evaluation by a urologist is essential to rule out any serious conditions.
Avatar n tn I already had a question partly on this theme but now I have more background information and am really puzzled. I have been several times in prostate biopsies during the last less than 4 years, altogether more than 60 needles. In April 2008 the last 20 of these biopsies where taken and one positive core was found from the left side, showing 1 mm and 2 mm cancer nodes (Gleason 3+3). The right side did not include cancer in these biopsies.
Avatar f tn I am alarmed NO ONE is too concerned (I saw 2 urologists) and no one can dfiagnose this..I take PROSCAR for benign hypertropic prostate-that has nothing really to d owith hleping the loss of feeling..just lets me urinate..when I CAN sense it..HELP ???? Avatar n tn Also, a radical prostatectomy seems like an extreme measure for prostatitis! I had a radical prostatectomy in Jul 2018 for prostate cancer, and the effects of that are not to be trifled with - 15+ months later, I’m still struggling to regain sexual function & many things are different, including urination. Believe me, you don’t want this unless it’s to save your life, as in if you’re diagnosed w/ cancer.
Avatar m tn First of all, PSA levels are not diagnostic of prostate cancer and you shouldn’t worry about it. There is no specific normal or abnormal level of PSA in the blood. In the past, most doctors considered PSA levels of 4.0 ng/mL and lower as normal. More recent studies have shown that some men with PSA levels below 4.0 ng/mL have prostate cancer and that many men with higher levels do not have prostate cancer. Hence alone PSA levels cannot confirm the presence of prostate cancer.
250398 tn?1225263291 55 year old male. I have BPH and take Proscar and Cardura XL. Having some lower abdominal soreness and have noted cloudy urine and now a whitish discharge from my penis. Began Bactrim and Cipro yesterday, along with Ibuprofen. I am working out of the country, so tracking down a Urologist or even a general practice doctor that speaks good enough English for me to understand, and for them to understand me, is a challenge. So, am I on a good track? Prostatitis? Bladder/Kideney infection?
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar m tn Im not a doctor but had prostate cancer and 45 radiation treatments. Im ok now and my psa has been steady at .08. Well i guess you already know about retrograde ej. My psa was 4.7 and had a biopsey and discovered it. Ive learned that the best warning sign is called a spike in the psa. Like from 1 to 4. I dont see a spike with yours. Just keep checking with your doctor.
Avatar m tn I am a 69 year old male with BPH, and a father who had prostate cancer for 15 years, but did not die from it. I have had two bouts of acute prostatitis causing complete retention in the last 7 years, one requiring catheterization. My PSA averages around 2.0, and I take Proscar and Cardura daily. My BPH symptoms are fairly mild causing only about one or two nights a month of nocturia, reduced urine flow, and hardly ever the feeling of urgency.
Avatar n tn observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide.
250398 tn?1225263291 Do you think maybe I am experiencing prostatitis or some other prostate issue or UTI? I have had some soreness in the lower abdoman and also in the right testicle/epididymus. I am out of the country workingf, and have no real access to adequate healthcare (or that can speak good enough English to discuss). So, I am looking for some reassurances, I guess. Thanks for your help, AJ.
Avatar n tn The alternative is continued intermittent catheterization, while adding a second drug Proscar to try to shrink the prostate and get him voiding. This is not the best alternatives because studies show that prostates respond best to there drugs like proscar if they are 40 grams or larger and it takes 6-12 months to work . Start with the urodynamic evaluation to determine the correct reason for the retention, but most men his age are obstructed and will probably need surgery at some point.
Avatar m tn I went to get treated at a clinic and got a shot and a presciption. took all medicine and still had same problem. i have been to different clinics and even the emergency room only to not be told anything and not being cured. I have sought out a urologist who said he detected a high count of white blood cells. I was prescribed procrit or proscar for an extended period of time. I did not complete the required dose because it wasn't helping.
Avatar f tn If you go on you tube and enter non invasive procedures for prostate cancer detection or prostaye cancer biopsy needle tracking and you see videos fron universities and prostate research and other different type entries. Any doctor of urology will also tell you it is possible but rarely happens which is not the all together the truth ..I have been researching this and other prostate information for 6 plus years. But enough said ...
Avatar f tn Well, management protocol of prostate cancer is not as well defined as other cancers and largely depends on the stage of the cancer. For localized lesions, gamma knife may be a suitable option with results as good as surgery and better results for maintenance of urinary continence. It would be best to discuss the pros and cons and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating oncologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn I went to a urologist...checked my psa.. 0.50, physical examination of my prostate normal..urine tests, culture and yeast urine test..normal..the urologist said to me you do not have a prostate problem but i am going to give you this drug called proscar anyway..this will cure any problem that you do have..Well it didn't....same problem after ejaulation only. This only happens 12 hours after ejaculation..otherwise i'm fine..no problems urinating, no pain.
Avatar f tn He had a biopsy and he had Gleason 7 cancer and atypical cells in another area of the prostate. After his prostate removal surgery, the atypical cells turned out to be Gleason 6, or 3 + 3, which is slow growing cancer. This is what I have learned with our journey and what you need to remember.... 1). This is a highly curable cancer if it is present. And if it is present, you cannot change it but only deal with what is in front of you.
Avatar n tn Finasteride goes by the brand name Propecia (for MPB) and Proscar (for BPH) and is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor used to treat male pattern baldness (MPB) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) [enlargement of the prostate]. The medication works by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone to its bioactive metabolite dihydrotestosterone thus decreasing its levels in the body.
Avatar n tn You could probably think of people with breast cancer who had spouses with prostate cancer as both cancers are pretty common. Since prostate cancer is common, you may also hear of spouses with other cancers – uterine, cervical, etc. There is a good screening method for cervical cancer, talk about it with your doctor. This has reduced the number of cervical cancer cases substantially. This is much better than being scared.
Avatar n tn Towards the end of last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer, gleason 10. My psa was 18.1. I have since had the DiVinci surgery (which I fully recommend) and I am not undergoing radiation. None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn In general it is believed that asymptomatic men (which would mean without any symptoms referable to the prostate, and indirectly probably have a smaller prostate size) would also harbor prostate cancer as they age. About a third of such men would, but majority may remain without symptoms and die of other things such as old age.
Avatar f tn s for benign prostate enlargement, and the results were rather mixed. Then Proscar came along and pretty much ended that debate. Saw Palmetto has faded into the background - it's possible you affected your DHT levels, but it will definitely only be temporary. I quit Proscar for that reason, best not to fool around with sex hormone levels, in my opinion.
Avatar n tn If your dog is neutered, it will stop the levels of testosterone, which could cause prostate swelling and prostate cancer too. It would take a while to max. effect because he'd still have SOME testosterone in his system for a bit. But it would be a quicker option than medication. But it would be a good option only if he's generally in good fitness and condition for his age. The anaesthetic might stress him if he has heart or lung problems, or some other health problem.
