What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).
i heard that propranolol causes memory loss. if so how wil i cope with creeping old age.
When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
The question I am posing is the same question that DavidX asked in 2005 concerning the side effects of atenolol. Your panel did not give a conclusive answer to his question as to possible memory less due to usage of this drug. So, I am asking this same question again. Is there memory loss due to usage of this drug? I have had a prescription for atenolol for the past ten years to control blood pressure. And, I am experiencing some minor memory loss.
I was taking Propranolol which I had problems with. I had some severe side effects concerning my central nervious system. One of which was memory loss. During the 6 months that I was taking it (for blood pressure) I started to think I was going a crazy because I was also having very vivid dreams which I was having a difficult time with.
In real life I had learned some things that normally would have been difficult to deal with.
I've been on a couple of different SSRI's Paxil(generic) and now on Prozaz. I have noticed that my memory doesn't seem to be as good as it use to be. I've always attributed to getting older and having a ton more stress in my life. I've done a lot of research on SSRI side effects and have never seen anything documented about memory loss.
Getting off of Paxil (if that's what you decide to do) is very difficult.
Atypical antipsychotics can have a lot of side effects. If you think your memory problems are from the seroquel, talk to your doctor about changing your meds around. If they're for schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, you'll need to stay on some sort of antipsychotic, but different ones have different side effect profiles for different people. If it's for bipolar or as an add on for depression, you can switch drug classes entirely, which might work better for you.
Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me. Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well. My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.

Hallucinations and night mares are common side effects of Propranolol. However, these are not serious side effects. You do not need to stop the medication for these symptoms. Please talk to your doctor for the management of the symptoms. Another fact about Propranolol is that it should not be stopped suddenly otherwise it may cause Angina, and possibility a heart attack. I also was on propranolol for a while with no side effects. I don't agree with banglamom in saying the best cure is to stop taking your medicine. Some medicines can have side effects at first that wear off after you've been on them for a month or so.

I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.
Do you think it wise bringing a baby/ child into that environment?
It's a hard call and one only you (?and your husband, partner, so) can make in consultation with your own doctor.
I knew someone in a similar situation and she tried to harm her fetus while pregnant and later her daughter attempted suicide (due to the environment the mother raised her in).
Are you in therapy to help address the anxiety?
I am starting this beta blocker for anxiety and high blood pressure.
I am a big girl and my blood pressure is quite high so I'm not worried it will drop too low but am worried about side effects.
Any idea what to expect. Shortness of breath terrifies me.
i am just concerned for the fact that the prolonged use of propranolol might cause any sort of memory loss to me. Kindly advise me in this regard.
So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?
I'd ask about something else. That is a beta blocker (blood pressure pill). I was on it and of course it lowers your blood pressure and knocks you out and makes you feel weak. It takes a while to get used to and if you took it one day you'd have trouble concentrating and focusing at the presentation because of the side effects. That's not to say its unsafe or not worth using but it takes to accustom yourself to it. And speak to your psychiatrist not your doctor.
