Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with abdominal migraine and put on propranolol (taken daily to prevent migraine), and it worked very well. We weaned him off the propranolol after a year or so, and a year after that the nausea came back. Now he's been nauseous for 8 weeks straight and has missed a month of school. Propranolol is not supposed to stop a migraine in progress, just prevent them; we tried putting him back on during this episode but his pulse dropped too low.
1125820 tn?1265284446 There is a specific antiemetic called Metoclopramide that helps with migraine pain as well as nausea and vomiting. Since Metoclopramide helps with migraine pain as well as being an antiemetic, it can be taken on its own as an acute migraine medication. Usually Metoclopramide is prescribed with another migraine medication though, such as a triptan or an analgesic. These are the "usual" first line and second line acute migraine treatments that pop to mind.
Avatar f tn can propranolol be used for migraine prophylaxis in a patient with heart rate of 60 and family history of diabetes
Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with migraine equivalent by my neurologist. He gave me Topomax which i reacted very bad to so I got off of it. I was only on it for two weeks and I've been off of it for three days now so I'm pretty sure most of it is out of my system, especially since I started on a low dosage.
Avatar f tn This might be a migraine headache. Is it localized to one side of your head, or is the throbbing all over? You should probably see a Neurologist so they can evaluate the proper course of treatment. Typically, migraines don't respond to conventional headache medication, which is why you aren't feeling better after taking Advil or Tylenol. A Neurologist can prescribe migraine medication like Topamax or Propranolol, which will hopefully help you finally get rid of that headache!
Avatar n tn As soon as they were finished with the ablation, before they rolled me out of the cath lab, I started getting a migraine (blurry vision, followed by headache from hell, nausea, vomiting). Before my heart ablation I would get a migraine 3-4 times a year. I have been getting them since i was a teenager (I am now 34). Since the surgery, I have gotten 1-2 migraine headaches EVERY DAY (I'm on day 5 since my surgery). Sometime I get one in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping.
1868815 tn?1412541757 If you have any weaknes or imbalance in your body the migraine will surely pray on it. For me it is enough with a simple cold for my migraine to try to attack me. Amitriptyline should also help you sleep when you reach higher doses. Be patient and keep fighting. I know what a horrible disease this is.
1268921 tn?1288919056 t explain the visual symptoms (which I feel are CM)--the NL wants to try treating it as a 15month aura w/out the typical migraine headache...so, the next month or so we are going to give meds a chance. Depending on how the meds effect the vision, it'll help me to know if it's migraine or CM. Then, decompression if needed. Always another question around the turn, isn't there???????

Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.

1285921 tn?1271718059 I have suffered from migraine headaches for about 13 yrs now. 5 months ago I injured my back. I have allot of other pain issues as well including two bulging discs in my neck, fused ankle arthritis in my knee, tendinitis in my knee, bursitis around my ischial process, and I also suffer from peripheral neuropathy. Since the injury, even tho it is healed I have been experiencing migraines and other sever headaches, approximately 4 a week.
Avatar f tn Same here except no meds have every worked for me. During my first pregnancy my specialist said take the max dose of Tylenol (1000mg) in combo with promethezine or benedryl. If it doesn't work you can take two Excedrin migraine. Then if that doesn't work go to the hospital. And the Excedrin can't be a daily thing. Twice a month max and only if necessary.
Avatar n tn I have had what they say is a Migraine for 87 days straight now. It’s not like everyone else’s migraines though as I do not have light sensitivity, sound sensitivity or nausea. Doctors have tried doing the cocktail through IV x 3 and never worked, tried zomig, tramadol, Botox injections, steroids, propranolol and the list goes on. I avoid pills as much as possible as I’m aware this could cause a rebound headache. When it comes on its fast and hard! No easing into it.
Avatar f tn A little over a month ago I decided (after a 6 day migraine) that I needed to see a neurologist. He diagnosed me with Classic migraines and prescribed me Maltax and Propanolol. I have had zero relief and have literally had a headache / migraine every day since. They changed me to Imitrex instead of the Maltax and added Amitriptyline at night. Still...no relief. So far I have had an MRI and an MRA but nothing showed up that would explain the headaches.
Avatar f tn Drugs most commonly used to treat essential tremor include beta-blockers (propranolol) and an epilepsy drug called Mysoline (primidone). Topamax (topiramate), another drug used to treat epilepsy and migraine help some people. With the use of medication, people with essential tremor may see improvement in their ability to control their tremor and improvement in activities such as drinking from a cup or using food utensils.
Avatar n tn I have had a cat scan on my brain and an x-ray on my neck and they found nothing wrong they said maybe muscle spasm, i have also had a migraine needle and a few eye tests but still nothing they can find. I have also tried chiropraticors. At the moment im trying bowen therypy and he seems to think its my jaw that is out somehow and that 30% of the nerves run through there. My left side of my jaw does seem to ache aswell but doesnt seem to anoy me as much as around the eye and temple.
Avatar m tn A neurologist put him on Propranolol, and the episodes went from every 6 - 8 weeks to ZERO. He stayed on the Propranolol for a year, then weaned off and was symptom-free for another year. In April (7 months ago), he had another 10-day episode.
Avatar f tn I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
Avatar n tn A brain tumor is very far down in terms of probability as the cause of migraines, so you can probably put that concern to rest. You say that you don't usually go to the doctor for them, but considering the length/severity of the migraines you are describing, you really ought to consider seeking treatment. There are different forms of treatment for migraines.
Avatar m tn I used up to 160 mg of Propranolol before my anxiety kick in to manage my migraine headache and I had no side-effects at all... For the tachycardia, low dose of 10-20 mg x 3 a day will be enough for me. That dose seem probably ridiculous for someone with high blood pressure, but for me it's what I need, taking more will just lower the blood pressure and lowering too much the blood pressure is as bad as having hign blood pressure...
