Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol and migraine headaches

inderal

778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Opiates are another analgesic that is sometimes prescribed for migraines, although these too do not work for the vast majority of migraine headaches and also can have high side-effect profiles and high-dependency profiles. If an opiate is prescribed, it is important that it is not an opiate with a high side-effect profile, as such a medication will only worsen the migraine symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
Avatar m tn I get these about once a month. Headaches will start mild and gradually get stronger. After vomiting(10-15 times), headache goes away.
Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Migraine headaches usually present with one-sided throbbing headaches with associated nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to sound and light. There are plenty of medications available for preventive and abortive migraines. Sometimes trial and error is done to determine the suitable medications for each patient. However, rest, ice packs, and avoidance of triggers will help prevent recurrences. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The day after the surgery my EP Dr put me on Propranolol daily and Sumatriptan to take when I get the headaches, but it doesn't seem to be working and the migraines keep coming. I've gotten 2 migraines today already. Has anyone experienced this after a heart ablation? did it go away? I cannot imagine having headaches like this for the rest of my life. They are debilitating. I can't go to work, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't do anything! HELP!!
Avatar m tn His only medical history up to that point was that he developed migraine headaches a couple of years before the strokes, a history of peptic ulcer disease, and sleep apnea. He was using CPAP prior to the strokes without a problem. Since the strokes, the migraines are almost a daily occurrence (although he does take propranolol as a preventative med for them), he cannot tolerate the CPAP( we have had additional sleep studies and made changes to the CPAP without any improvement).
Avatar f tn My oncologist prescribed Epleptin and Neurexal for me. I have been on this medication for 3 months now and my headaches are not as severe or often as before. I feel great!!! :):):) Please go and see your neurologist and ask him for this medication.

Avatar m tn It was a heavy amount of weight, and I strained myself while trying to re-rack the weight. Since then, I get exertion headaches sometimes during intercourse and weight lifting. I am most interesting in treatment and healing time, but could you please explain some of the physiology to me? I am a university biology student, so you don't really have to dumb down the explanation.
Avatar f tn I have had zero relief and have literally had a headache / migraine every day since. They changed me to Imitrex instead of the Maltax and added Amitriptyline at night. Still...no relief. So far I have had an MRI and an MRA but nothing showed up that would explain the headaches. About three days ago I started getting really bad neck pains that gradually would get worse throughout the day (just like my headaches / migraines).
Avatar f tn I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a transfer migraine last August. It started on Aug 1st and hasn't left me since. It's been an agonizing 6 months. It's called transfer migraine because it moves all over my head. I've never had one of those common migraines where the light bothers me or I get nauseated or see auras, etc. My migraines have been "light" headaches that stay with me for a few days: from 3 to five days at the most.
Avatar m tn suffering from severe migrain headaches. The symptoms started nearly six years ago and use to usually appear alongside my monthly cycles and last for 2 to 3 days but from the past two years they are more frequent, I have been suffering from continuous headache for nearly two months with reprieve of just one or two days in the middle,The severity and intensity varies from time to time like after a good sleep the headache mellows down.
Avatar f tn My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead. Eventually taking over the whole front half of my head. Now my left eye lid is swollen along with this side of my nose bridge.
526022 tn?1231148784 I tried to consult a neurologist and I was told that this is migraine. I was kind of disappointed then because she prescribed me with PARACETAMOL to control the pain...I felt bad because as what I have said it's heaviness that I am feeling. I went to another neuro and I was prescribed with Propranolol (Inderal). I have been asymptomatic for a week and the heaviness went back again. I had a plain cranial CT scan and waiting for the results.
