Saw Palmetto works like propecia but side effects are more severe than propecia. It blocks both 5-alpha reductase type I & II. so Testosterone does not convert to DHT, no DHT means no sexual function. Some people using SP also suffer from low total T and free T or in other words they are hypogonadal. The only solution is go on TRT for the life.
SP is very potent and dangerous herb.It should not be sold without clear warnings.
Hi there, i'm 19 years old and I took saw palmetto for about 5 days because it is known to increase sex drive and help with erectile function. After 5 days of use, it lowered sex drive and made my erectile dysfunction way worse. I just need to know if this is at all permanent. Has anyone else had experiences with this? I only took it for 5 days so im not as worried but I just dont know at this point. Any help is really appreciated.
I have PCOS and am ttc. In my research I've come across Saw Palmetto and its possible benefits for women with PCOS. Has anyone used it with good results? Has it helped to manage symptoms of PCOS? Or with conception?
saw palmetto was tried in the late 90's for benign prostate enlargement, and the results were rather mixed. Then Proscar came along and pretty much ended that debate. Saw Palmetto has faded into the background - it's possible you affected your DHT levels, but it will definitely only be temporary. I quit Proscar for that reason, best not to fool around with sex hormone levels, in my opinion.
Finasteride is an underestimated and dangerous pill for hair loss. Its hard to stop it and not experience libido issues. You are lucky enough that you took it for so little time. There are other people taking it for years facing serious hormonal side effects. It will probably take as long as you took the tablets to feel like before. So a couple of months is a good projection as this pill changes hormonal balance in your blood and gene expression about androgen receptors.
I know there are thousands of people who take antidepressants, but many people take Propecia and some people claim to have sexual side effects after they stop. I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.

Its 25hrs since I took the last half 80mg oxycontin pill. I have not taken the saw palmetto and have been going to bathroom constantly and even for small amounts of urine. It's a little frustrating getting up everytime each night to go to the bathroom but I know it gives me exercise at least.
I have a whole slew of vitamins and I do have a question. 5htp has helped me in the past, but this time I have DLPA, L-tyrosine, L-theanine, Valerian Root, and St. Johns Wart.
I do have glaucoma, corrected with daily drop of TRAVATAN in each eye. No other medications taken except suppliments for osteo-arthritis, saw palmetto, and Q-10 suppliment, plus baby aspirin daily. Blood pressure runs in the 130/85 range, + or - a little bit. No hypertension meds taken at this time. (have in the past---benicar 10mgs)

In a report published in 2000, researchers reviewed 11 clinical trials and concluded that treatment with saw palmetto extract can help improve peak urinary flow rate and reduce patients' need to awake at night in order to urinate. However, a research review from 2009 deemed saw palmetto no more effective than placebo for treatment of BPH-related urinary symptoms.
It's possibly age related, but I'd also google Saw Palmetto to see if there is any indication that it affects erections. If no hint there, talk to your doctor.
To my horror I came across this page and saw your posts. I stopped taking propecia more than a year ago and have not regained any of the sexual funtion i lost while taking the meds. My erections are LAME, my seaman volume is a joke (and it used to come out like a garden hose) and my orgasms dont even feel that great. I can go months and months now without masterbation and dont even feel horny. This NEVER used to happen to me.

palmetto bugs are like creatures from my nightmares. Living in sub-tropical Florida, but in the woodsy part of it...we have palmetto bugs like most people have...i dunno...dust mites, lol. They're huge. they're disgusting, and they have no freaking fear. they'll stare you down.
