Prometrium and estrogen

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium and estrogen

prometrium

453798 tn?1262633421 Does anyone take estrace and prometrium? I have googled information on those, but not finding what I want.
691236 tn?1311199974 Sounds like your doctor is on top of things. If your hormone levels are low, it makes perfect sense to use progesterone and estrogen supplements after ovulation. I've only used progesterone in the past, but I'm currently getting ready for IVF and will be on both estrogen and progesterone after retrieval. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn The good thing is that you missed the estradiol and not the prometrium. Estrogen stays around in the body much more than progesterone does. My estrogen was in twice-weekly shots, and when I asked my doctor why they prescribed that I take them Wednesday evening and Sunday evening (clearly not exactly the halfway point in a given week, it was an every third day, every fourth day schedule) I was told there was still residual estrogen from the last shot even by the fourth day.
Avatar f tn A little over a week ago I had a canceled IUI due to too many follicles and very high estrogen. Since then I've been taking 200mg Prometrium twice a day (to bring on my period I think). Also since then, I've had a lot of pain in my breasts. It seems to be getting a little bit better but I thought if it was related to the high estrogen it would be gone by now. It's still very much present. Did anyone ever experience this and is it normal? Thanks!
Avatar f tn In this case I would try it again and wait when estrogen will be reduced. I am afraid that it cause hot flashes, reflux and may cause breast tumors bc my grand mother, mother and sister have it.
Avatar n tn Vivelle-dot estrogen patch after surgery, and I felt fine. Two weeks later, he added a 100 mg. daily dose of prometrium to my HRT therapy to avoid recurrence of endometriosis growth. My problem is that I am having unpleasant side effects from the prometrium, including exhaustion, minor headache, and lightheadedness. I don't like how it makes me feel. What other alternatives would you suggest to the 100 mg. prometrium?
Avatar m tn I would say still take it because it sounds like it is adding back estrogen into the body am i right? or what is the use of the prometrium? Sounds like you may be pregnant still especially if it isn't heavy bleeding.
Avatar n tn I am 51 years old and I was told by my Ob/Gyn that I have estrogen dominance that is causing my endometrium to keep thickening and consequently causing heavy and long periods. I also have iron deficiency anemia because of this. I have had endometrial biopsies (about a year ago) and Pelvic/transvaginal ultra sounds which did show a thickened lining but otherwise normal. My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed prometrium and this is my second month. This month I used an ovulator kit and BD on the right days and took prometrium as soon as I ovulated, so why am I not pregnant. I have all the symptoms; but this can also be prometrium side effects. I really do not believe that I am pregnant because I have not experienced any spotting. I am SO frustrated. Has anyone gone through the same experience?
Avatar n tn I am on 200 mg prometrium /5 mg estradiol, and metformin as well as tirosint. The prometrium and estradiol is for hot flashes. The metformin for prediabetes, couldn't get my a1c down, and tirosint for thyroid disease. My question is this...the prometrium and estradiol are causing my blood sugars to stay high, as well as make me very tired, as well as making me gain weight. I walk briskly at least 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour daily. I watch what I eat, low sugars, etc.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. I am taking estrogen pills too with a estrogen patch every other day.
Avatar f tn I was on progesterone only once a day, prometrium (vaginally) am and pm, and finished my antibiotics. how much progesterone are you taking?
Avatar n tn Well, the doctor who did my transfer told me to take 2 estrodial per day and 3 prometrium per day and shot of progesterone every other day and I wasn't due to go back until my pregnancy test 10/7. However, I was unhappy with several lapses in care that I received along the process so I switched and they immediately started doing my blood levels every 3-4 days. I guess it helps them to keep your hormones where they need to be to support pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Estrogen should not be taken without a progestogen or you're at risk for proliferation of the uterine lining which can cause hyperplasia or cancer. Have you tried various formulations of progestins? Have you tried micronized progesterone (brand name Prometrium)? There's also a vaginal progestogen called Crinone that is mainly used to maintain pregnancy. It may be an option to cycle less frequently than monthly. You could discuss it with your doctor.
Avatar f tn It is also possible that the lining of your uterus is very thin due to lack of estrogen stimulation and that is the cause of the bleeding. Either way, I would prescribe Prometrium for 10-14 days to slow down the flow of blood and stabilize the uterine lining. I would probably then watch to see if you would begin regular ovulatory cycles, which shouldn't be excessively heavy. If not, cyclic progesterone might be one option for treatment. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'd love some wisdom from everyone! Anyone! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and started bleeding Tuesday. It was not typical miscarriage symptoms but that is how my miscarriage in 2006 started out (as a little bleeding). So naturally I FLIP. We've been trying for this baby for 13 months, with PCOS and went through Clomid (did not conceive on Clomid but instead conceived when we STOPPED trying and moved on with our lives... go figure!). I want this baby more than anything right now.
1741246 tn?1311324281 I am certain that there is no way I could be ovulating right now, and am wondering if maybe it might be my endometriosis that is acting up because of the estrogen and prometrium I am taking. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn My family doc gave me a prescription for Prometrium (200 mgs) because I was terrified of taking the Provera again due to side effects and heavy bleeding. Any information on how one feels while taking Prometrium (vs Provera) and whether it works to bring on a flow but, not a flood? I'm confused and cannot get my OBGYN by phone or even and appointment to talk to her. Any help would be much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped. That is why you are always to have a beta hCG blood draw on the 32-33 day of your cycle to see if pregnancy has taken place.
Avatar f tn I used one crinone every day and I also took two prometrium pills (am and pm). According to my RE, crinone is just as effective as the shots, if not more effective, since the hormone is delivered right there where it's needed and does not have to go through your whole system first (like the PIO shots do). Wishing you all the best for your upcoming cycle!
1129232 tn?1360800358 HI Kris, Welcome to my world. You can find some of my other posts in the TTC 40 group. YES!!! I have gained about 14 pounds over 1.5 years of fertility drugs. I did 13 cycles of fermara with some cycles using HCG and prometrium. I had 6 IUI's and no success. I am so upset that I have all this weight on and still no baby. The doctor decided in Feb. that since the meds didn't work, I should stop taking them.
901431 tn?1242066034 I was on them both on my ivf cycles along with prometrium and estrace.for me it didn't do anything cause both of my cycles failed. And i got pregnant with timed bd without taking any of the meds you take for ivf. Maybe they help who knows and my doctors give them to all his patients.
Avatar n tn I cannot take regular hormones either because of history of thrombosis so I will be watching your thread. Thanks for creating the new forum.
Avatar f tn said it may take a while to become normal and he was not concerned. In June I was given prometrium to start my periods again and it worked. I started 12 days later, but I never ovulated and it never came again. In August I went back to see my ob/gyn and he wanted to do a thyroid panal and also check for PCOS. The test came back and my TSH was 121, funny thing is, I felt pretty good. He immedicatly started me on 150 mcg of Synthroid.
